This month we are taking a retrospective look at MYS, not in terms of yachts that were in-situ but from a design component viewpoint. This sometimes overlooked, but all-important, area of yacht design gains our full attention as we bring you a taste of what we feel will make it into the 2018 design schedules: the key components from lighting to architectural hardware that sparked our interest. As always, we take a closer look at some of this season’s most exciting projects as well as looking ahead to the yachts of the future with conceptual ideas and designs to be put into practice. Whilst talking of looking ahead, we commence
our shortlisted project features this month, with some of the shortlisted projects to date in The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2018. This prestigious annual event will be held next May at The Hotel Cipriani once again. Over the coming months we will enable you to gain a snap-shot of some of the forthcoming years’ contenders. As always the decision on who wins will be yours, along with thousands of other design professionals in the industry, who will make those all-important decisions during the four annual weeks of voting mid-April to mid-May. THE BEAUTY INSIDE VENTIQUE

Upcoming exhibition ‘London Geodes: The Beauty Inside’ featuring work by artist Matteo Margaroli is running until 12th November in the Ventique London Gallery. The exhibition explores the contrast between the nondescript stone exterior of geodes and the hidden secrets within; quartz crystals, agate or amethyst. This desire to extract this beauty references Margaroli’s ambition to unearth the hidden beauty within us; referencing how the cover of a book does not always reveal its contents. A recent technological advancement that has particularly influenced Ventique’s recent collaboration with Matteo Margaroli is the process of cold casting, and the improvement of LED lights. Cold casting enables the production of custom metal sculptures without the need for a furnace, thus reducing the environmental impact during construction. It also enables the sculptures to be lighter, and therefore more suitable for a range of interiors including yachts and jets. LED lights are also an important part of Margaroli’s sculptures; the reduction in size and increase in brightness highlights the sparkling crystals within the pieces, refracting and reflecting the hand cut crystals.

Air-Craftglass Inc. is a developer and producer of real glass solutions for the aircraft industry which will meet all the criteria to be certified both for VIP and Commercial use. They are also a shortlisted product for the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2018 within the Fabric and Wallcovering category. Besides mirrors and transparencies in real glass, which are produced with their patented laminating system, they will introduce for 2018 a collection of over 300 different real wood veneers, covered with ultra-thin glass which will meet the stringent fire and mechanical tests. With the top layer of chemically tempered glass there will be a 100% flat surface (which can only be reached by very expensive traditional painting methods) which is also scratch resistant, UV resistant and easy to clean. F.lli Razeto & Casareto S.p.A. have created a historical model of a door handle, Horn which was showcased within their catalogs of year 1932 and fitted on the famous Rex liner; they are reproducing a “swim” a door handle in frozen crystal glass. The design is a reproduction of the companies sculpture and is dedicated to the yard exclusively; a bespoke project of luminous engraved glass handles for a magnificent 80 mt M.Y. designed by a prestigious italian designer is being evaluated now.

The Numarine 32XP is an exceptional blend of size and capability, fully equipped and ready to take passengers on an extraordinary journey. The 32.5 metre explorer yacht boasts extensive deck spaces. The fiberglass superstructure and steel hull, with a top speed of 14 knots and a range of 3000 nautical miles offers its owners the opportunity to explore anywhere in the world. In creating the new XP-explorer series, Numarine have tried to evolve the design language of past Numarine yachts into a more robust, muscular, angular and greater design that can provide maximum comfort and ultimate luxury. As with all Numarines the brief was to provide maximum glazing, great security, and a variety of lounging options. In the design stages Numarine took inspiration from a variety of sources examining the options that classify a yacht as an explorer. Combining elements from many sources, spatial awareness from architecture, detailing from handmade craftwork, creative mystery and vision from sculpture and visual arts, the strongest influence for Numarines yachts comes from automotive design. Following and using many elements of design they aim to create a unique vision, creating a classic design that ages well. The bow shape is the result of a combination of needs; Can Yalman wanted to give a vertical bow shape that has a modern look with a narrow plan cutting through the water with ease without loosing from the interior space. The solution was to flare the bow at an angle after the vertical bow creating a knuckle form that emphasizes the strong overall aesthetic and widens the interior cabin. This shape also helps with water flow in waves making a drier running hull form. Numarine 32XPs interior was designed by well renowned interior design firm, Esra Kazmirci Interiors. As with all Numarine’s yachts, there are many options available to the owner to customise the interior to their preferences. On this boat Numarine worked
closely with the owner and Esra Kazmirci to create a style that is comfortable and homey as well as suitable to the open sea. The design of 32XP is flexible to allow for customisation from different clients yet standard enough to accommodate serial production. During the personal design process with the client, material choices are made and suppliers are selected. Numarine work with both international and local suppliers that meet their strict quality standards. As with any design the combination of the needs of design, production, engineering, sales, marketing and customer need to meet in a harmonious amalgamation for success. For this particular yacht, all the fixed furniture and some of the standalone furniture were made in house at Numarine. The closets were designed to the owner`s specific wardrobe in mind as per request. On this boat they used Ethimo exterior furniture and Flos lighting to meet the clients style and décor needs. Bespoke leather detailing is done by a local producer using leather choices from a variety of international suppliers. The door handles were bespoke made in Turkey to match with the client’s colour choices, they are solid brass with an antique bronze finish. The black steel lighting above the dining table is color matched to complement the internal décor. All of the wall fabrics, the patchwork in the ceiling along with the herringbone fabric on the headboards are from Clark and Clark in the UK. All the carpets are specially made by Step a world-renowned brand from Turkey. B&B Italia Mirto chairs were chosen for the dining room around the table made in-house. The marbles used in the bathrooms are all from the owner’s quarries with different texture effects to give a more tactile feel. Numarine are not tied to any brand and offer a great selection to their clients to meet their aesthetic requirements. The personal design process at Numarine combines the yard, the owner, designer and interior decorator in a seamless collaboration in creating a vision that will stand out and result in a satisfied customer. Known to Luxe et al, Interior designer of Numarine 32XP, Esra Kazmiric has entered the International Yacht & Aviation Awards previously and said of the awards, “they give designers the opportunity to showcase their talents. There is such an array of beautiful designs and designers out there and it is always wonderful to see so many beautiful residential and commercial spaces being transformed by creative individuals like ourselves. It is also always so interesting to see the abundance of styles that are presented throughout the awards shortlist.”

Berlin-based yacht designer Theodoros Fotiadis has released further details of his 118 metre clean silhouette concept, Vitality. With Vitality, Theodoros Fotiadis Bespoke Design continues with the design approach of creating large convertible exterior areas that serve more than only one purpose, giving the already vast platform an additional level of layout possibilities. The forward and aft facing decks are characterised by multiple pools, generous relaxation areas, and above all, excellent all-round visibility provided by the functional design lines in these convertible areas. Semi glass bulwarks give an added element of freedom. The lower deck is a lifestyle oasis where the full beam of 17.30 meters of the hull has been utilised to house a gym complete with a 12-metre x 4-metre indoor pool that creates the effect of being part of the ocean, once the series of sliding doors have been opened that leads out onto the enormous swim platform. Despite her large size, the 118-metre superyacht is designed with on-board spaces that seamlessly blend together, and with the open and uncluttered feel on board, perfectly suits the name Vitality. A key aspect of this superyacht concept is the use of open spaces, clean lines and lean luxury. The design was all about Vitality, clean but strong lines and the colour palette a relaxing set of lours plus some surprising reflective materials.

Theodoros Fotiadis, Owner and Head Designer at Theodoros Fotiadis Bespoke Design, discussed: “It is based on an existing platform. That in addition with our fresh Exterior-Interior design approach, is the change that our industry needs. Open space floorplan, huge sliding window, connecting the Interior with the Ocean and a user friendly high end Interior.” Some of the key interior pieces are the organic shaped door handles that are 3d printed in 925 silver, and their trademark sun floor texture with bronze inlays and the wood planks cast in bronze. “Everything started with 3 lines and 3 parameters/priorities. It had to be Gracious, Elegant and Innovative. After the exterior was completed, the design was published and waiting for 2 years until we got the chance to proceed to its interiors based on a solid interest.” Theodoros Fotiadis reflected. The awards are a “good way to experience, how our design stands among others in a demanding industry and showing our work to the public via a very strong medium.” Theodoros Fotiadis Bespoke Design are currently developing a 90 meters expedition yacht based on the silhouette of Vitality, visuals will be available around mid-December.

Seasense is a 67-meter Benetti Custom yacht, designed around the originality of the outdoor areas to offer an all-embracing relationship with the sea. Seasense’s elegant, original exteriors have been created by Dutch designer Cor D. Rover, his first yacht for Benetti, who brings to this project his own personal touch in the form of the high, narrow side windows, but most importantly by realising what the designer calls his ‘Benetti beach club’ concept, which is a defining feature of the entire project. Aft on the main deck is a surprising 10x4m swimming pool with a large sunbathing area, which can be covered to form a free deck space for use as a basketball court, complete with baskets. A standout detail is the teak planking, which on this and all the other decks is laid athwart ships, or in other words sideways rather that lengthways as is usually the case. Seasense has a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure, built in the Livorno yard for an expert owner who has chosen the Benetti brand for the first time. A choice guided by the knowledge that on the yacht, not only the aesthetics but also the building techniques are of the very finest quality. This is because Benetti is committed to innovating all the technical aspects that are invisible, but which give the product its ‘substance’ and characterise the brand as a paradigm of excellence. This yacht has an alternative layout featuring an indoor-outdoor dining area, with a table seating 12, between the large swimming pool and the indoor TV lounge. A system of recessed sliding doors allows this area to be made larger by adding the outdoor pool area, or turned into a closed space with access to the TV lounge indoors. Its characteristics make it an extremely liveable space, even in winter, enriched with backlit wood cladding that imparts a sensation of warmth and intimacy. Like the layout of the outdoor areas, the interiors of Seasense (which can

comfortably accommodate 12 guests in six suites) also have some out of the ordinary features. The contemporary design of the interiors springs from collaboration between Los Angeles based design firm AREA, for whom this is their international debut in the world of superyachts, and the team of Benetti architects. On board, the colour scheme recalls the sea’s varying shades of blue, to which it adds spectacular red, grey or white flourishes, embracing guests in a fresh and contemporary atmosphere that plays on contrasts reprised throughout the yacht, but without any sense of repetition. The Seasense concept features a variety of over one hundred different materials, a remarkable selection for a yacht. The main walls in the salons are grey wood, but different types of timber have been used in each area, and at least two different types of marble for each bathroom, not to mention the different flooring solutions found in every space on the yacht. The interior layout on the main deck is a truly original solution. The salon, which is accessed directly from the indoor-outdoor area, is a fully-fledged living/screening room with armchairs and a large L-shaped sofa, commissioned by the owner for his family. It also has access to the lobby and the grey Antartide Marble spiral staircase in it, featuring evocative under step lighting and a blue wooden structure with steel inserts that flow with the dynamic progression of the stairway. Continuing towards the stern, on the right is the VIP cabin fitted with a walk-in wardrobe, a vanity desk and an en-suite bathroom. Further forward on this deck is the master cabin, the main feature of which is the height of the ceiling, which exceeds 300 cm in the central section. The owners are enthusiastic art collectors and specifically asked for a huge steel chandelier/sculpture, measuring 2.7 x 2.2 m and commissioned specifically for
Seasense, to be installed in the cabin. The cabin is completed by a chaise longue, twin walk-in wardrobes, and a bathroom with shower and tub. On the lower deck are the four guest cabins, two with double beds and two with twin beds that can easily be pushed together. The galley is also located on this deck, inside the crew area, featuring steel fittings and countertops made from Silverstone and quartz aggregates. The garage, which is located in the center of the yacht between the engine room and the aft cabins, contains a jewel within a jewel, in the form of a special Limo tender designed specifically for Seasense by Giorgio Cassetta. On the upper deck, in addition to the helm station and the captain’s cabin, is a second salon. This is more formal than the one on the main deck and is divided into a living room, an office and a bookcase area, plus a dining space in a circular veranda with a table seating 12 that can be separated from the conversation area if desired by an elegant curtain. There is another outdoor lounge area in the stern. The talking point on the sun deck is without doubt the large, fully-equipped, covered gym, which has direct access to the relaxation area with Jacuzzi and sunbeds, as well as to a secluded conversation area furnished with sofas, an American bar and a wood-burning pizza oven. Moving around on board is made simple by large passageways and the crew can perform their duties without encroaching in any way on guests’ privacy. The ‘Benetti beach club’ concept created by Dutch designer Cor D. Rover marks the first time Benetti have collaborated with the experienced owner, while the Los Angeles based studio Area are also making a debut onto the superyacht scene. An ingenious project!

The titanium plateau finishing stage in “Geneva Stripes” is of remarkable complexity and reminds us that Sébastien Barrau uses audacity as a limit. Another achievement remains with the four feet. UNEARTHING HIDDEN SECRETS VENTIQUE
The upcoming exhibition ‘London Geodes: The Beauty Inside’ features work by artist Matteo Margaroli is located at the Ventique London Art Gallery. The exhibition explores the contrast between the nondescript stone exterior of geodes and the hidden secrets within; quartz crystals, agate or amethyst. This desire to extract beauty references Margaroli’s ambition to unearth the hidden beauty within us; referencing how the cover of a book does not always reveal its contents. In the exhibition, he explores these ideas through sculpture; the outer surface of the geode rock is reimagined and recreated in metal with a crack cutting through, revealing shimmering hand-cut, individually placed crystals within. Each London Geode takes its name from a London street; the sparkling crystal mapping out the geometric urban landscape while also highlighting the city’s impact on Margaroli’s practice. 46 Luxe et al
The piece, Adam and Eve Muse, takes inspiration from the first man and woman; the freestanding sculpture consists of two figurative Geodes, facing each other, almost embracing, yet not quite touching. The internal crystals are predominantly visible to its partner, yet sections of the precious interior can be seen when actively engaging with the sculpture. F.lli Razeto & Casareto have been designing exclusive door handles for both nautical and shore-use in Italy since 1920. They have now unveiled ‘Tribute to Sicily’: five fabulous collections of door handles which merge art, precious materials, technology, craftsmanship and passion in an incredible and coherent summary of those concepts which are the basis of the company’s research. The collections consist of: UNESCO World Heritage, the 18 handles reproduce sites and icons of the Italian island. All handles are hand painted in the pictorial style of the Sicilian horse-drawn cart. Eclectic Liberty: hand painted crystal glass handles, colourful details are emphasised by the patented luminous handles system. Light weaving: prickly pear fibre applied to a crystal glass handle illuminated by the patented system to create magic scenarios. Launched in Ancona in July 2017, the 37-metre superyacht from the Italian shipyard marks a true transition towards a completely renewed course of the brand. Less than a year after the acquisition of ISA Yachts by the Palumbo Group, Clorinda, whose construction began in 2016, is the first yacht completed in the Ancona yard under the new ownership. Clorinda represents an evolution of the 10 previous units of the series, and stands out for the introduction of restyled design elements, such as the dark fashion plates with glass inserts or the grey bottom line, and new functional ones, like a further fore solarium, and a skylight with blind to provide the master stateroom with even more air and light.

ISA Sport 120 comes from a whole project and design aimed at meeting the requirements of a yacht owner who loves elegance and performance, along with large exterior spaces and the inside comfort of a one-and-a-half decker cruiser. The architectural framework is conceived to enhance the relation with the environment and to enlarge the deck areas in contact with water and exposed to sunshine. The proportion between exterior and interior spaces is extremely balanced, with large terraces above the sea, spacious cockpit and flying bridge on one hand, and a huge and bright salon and ample cabins on the other hand. The fully-customizable interiors exploit the available space in the smartest way: the master stateroom, for instance, is laid on two levels, conveniently using the fore sections of main and lower deck. The design is based on a very sleek profile for a flying bridge motor yacht and stands out for essential features and strong volumetric solutions which confer an almost sculptural expressiveness to the yacht. The deckhouse and bridge deck stand out for the marked side frames that run lengthwise giving to the whole a strong dynamic tension. Two elegant double aft staircases connecting the swim platform to the sun deck, a true signature trait of ISA Yachts, have an architectural value strengthened by two high bulwarks which link the swim platform to the bow. One of the key areas on board is the stylish sundeck: forward is the relaxation area with two built-in sofas located behind the windscreen and the starboard navigation bridge; on port side a wet bar is equipped with refrigerator, ice-maker, sink, and dumbwaiter connected to the galley. To starboard a large Jacuzzi offers total relax. Further stern, in the middle of the deck, there is the dining area with a tailor-made table for 12 guests. The roll-bar acts as a sunshade over the dining area and allows

guests to enjoy the fresh air sheltered from the hottest sun. In its upper part, besides the radar mast it supports a large rigid roof which provides shade to the comfortable outdoor dining area, furnished with two semi-circular sofas. The aft deck, like the main deck cockpit, features a sun bed which turns into a sofa when necessary. Clorinda can accommodate 10 guests in five comfortable cabins, with the owner’s stateroom located at bow on the main deck and laid out on two levels, while the crew quarters allows for a staff of five in three cabins on the lower deck. In addition, the expansive main deck salon offers a generous relaxing area with a large ‘L’ shape sofa and, further on, the main dining area with circular table opens outward by way of six curved, sliding-glass doors. Due to the constant research and development process, propelled by the cooperation among the Shipyard, suppliers and customers – whose advice is always taken into great consideration ISA has developed and adopted on Sport 120 the ABT TRAC electric stabilizer. The benefits are immediately evident: the sophisticated yet quiet system grants an extraordinary reduction of pitch and roll, increasing the onboard comfort. ISA Sport 120 can then be deemed the only yacht with such high performance to also feature large volumes, low draft, and exceptional stability in navigation and at anchor. The right design components are key to any and every successful scheme, it goes without saying, you may say. So why are so many people getting it wrong? Why do the aviation and marine sectors win every time on technologically-based design, of course, but fail to meet the mark so many times when it comes to aesthetics?
Is this the fault of the shipyards and their relationships with designers, is it the client who relies on the wrong sort of expertise? Do the clients have poor taste and judgement? Or is it that the chain does not fit together as well as it should do, the people involved in the process don’t always connect in a professional sense as well as they could do perhaps? I think the latter may be the case in some instances. However, I also think that it is more complex than that; there are not enough avenues to influence and help the client and end user. When a client wants their London townhouse renovating or a palatial second home constructed in the Caribbean, there are vast number of titles that they can turn to for inspiration, ideas and guidance on a global level. Regrettably this is not so for either the yacht or aviation sectors, there are titles that cover the basics, but not the detail and consequently as an industry, at least from an aesthetic perspective they lag behind.

Let’s take it one step further here and be totally honest, whilst I appreciate cultural, regional and geographic diversity in design perspectives and look at everything on its own merits, every design bone in my body cringes at some of the design schemes presented each and every year at various yacht shows throughout the world. From a technological and ergonomic perspective, we are looking at some of the most advanced and incredible vessels and aircraft ever built. From a design perspective we need to catch up and we are here to direct you in this instance. We are here as the only design title in this sector and one that intends to step up to the plate and lead the way. Over the course of the next twelve months we will be looking closely at new collections, making predictions and recommendations via a series of visual basics pieces. This issue we have considered our recommendations from MYS a couple of months ago.

THE MOST VISUALLY STRIKING FEATURE OF EXTREME, HIGH PERFORMANCE YACHTS IS THE EXCEPTIONALLY WIDE AND LOW TRANSOM. TRANSLATING THAT FEATURE SUCCESSFULLY TO THE SW 96 WAS THE MOST DIFFICULT CHALLENGE.
Southern Wind Shipyards asked Farr Yacht Design to curate a totally new hull style and image for the SW 96 Sorceress. The goal was to achieve an entirely new level of design, incorporating features of the highest performance yachts: wide transoms, twin rudders and ample sail area and stability, melded with the wellknown characteristics of our previous SW designs: easy handling, excellent balance, comfortable ride and a solid feeling of seaworthiness. The requested performance level was higher than previous FYD designs for SWS to meet the expectations of prospective owners. The Sorceress should be capable of competing well in the occasional superyacht event and of swift, extended, blue water cruising in utmost comfort and safety. “The most visually striking feature of extreme, high performance yachts is the exceptionally wide and low transom. Translating that feature successfully to the SW 96 was the most difficult challenge” states the Vice President of Farr Yacht Design, Jim Schmicker.

The brief the owner gave to SWS was for a contemporary deck layout and a Raised Saloon interior that would have some of the best features of the SW94 and of the SW100. The client and his wife had previously owned a sailing yacht and loved the General Arrangement and the style of the yacht. They wanted to repeat some aspects of the ergonomics, such as the cockpit seats, the dodger dimensions and the positions/distances of helmsman and mainsheet trimmer, and improve others. The SW96 makes the best use of all the General Arrangement advantages that come with a Raised Saloon coach roof such as a large, open space saloon with

sweeping views through the hull portlights and has a very sporty deck layout and look. From an engineering standpoint, the system distributions point and the preengine room area are both close and easily accessible from the crew quarters, a very convenient feature during long distance cruises as it keeps all crew areas well separate from the guest areas. The SW96 has a lifting keel with high stroke of 2,10 mt that is so well integrated into the interior arrangement that you barely notice it. It does not clutter or encumber the interior at all, and the yacht can go into much shallower waters that it would have been able to with a fixed keel: a win-win solution. The SW 96 despite is a very light displacement boat, the interiors are generous and the systems design for blue water cruising. Strong for the experience of SW-RP90 Custom, all the aspects of construction have been strictly monitored for weight saving. Another challenge has been the design of a practical and easy maintenance engine room, due to the relative low height. The Sorceress represents with character the new generation of SWS Yachts where robust systems, light weight interiors, generous volumes and stylish design are perfect integrated into a high performing hull lines and ergonomic deck design. The SW 96 has been engineered completely on FEA to achieve the best result in terms of rigidity and weight saving, Sorceress in addition has been fitted with a Prepreg and Nomex deck. The design also foresees a lifting keel with a down draft of 5.6 m. and a Magic Trim for the main sail sheet by Cariboni. Sorceress, the first yacht of the SW 96 miniseries, being an elegant, comfortable, spacious, fast cruising boat met the Owner’s brief above his expectation. The yacht is ready to be utilised for family cruising in the Med and Caribbean and for racing with ambitions.

TO CREATE AN ATMOSPHERE OF HARMONIOUS AND UNDERSTATED ELEGANCE.
The spectacular custom-built 74 metres CRN CLOUD 9 is a powerful combination of engineering expertise and cutting-edge design, resulting from a close collaboration between CRN, Zuccon International Project and Winch Design. The technical aspects of the project were developed by the CRN engineering team and the sweeping lines of the yacht’s exterior styling are from the drawing board of Zuccon International Project. Winch Design was appointed to create the exterior guest areas, interior decoration and owner’s supply, resulting in excess of over 1,000sq metres of design elements being conceived across all decks. The design vision behind CLOUD 9 demonstrates an optimised balance between interior and exterior spaces, with impressive volume and a high degree of comfort, along with a free flowing layout for a relaxed indoor-outdoor living environment. Exceptional open-air areas, such as the private deck forward of the owner’s suite and the large beach club with extended platform at sea level, were conceived to offer maximum scope for both al fresco enjoyment and entertaining, as specified by the experienced owner. An unusual feature of the vessel is the forward living area located at the bow which allows guests to enjoy outdoor living in total privacy and includes a unique party space ideal for karaoke evenings. Imaginative and carefully-chosen details can be found across all five decks, characterised by understated colour schemes and a varied use of oak in many different guises, juxtaposed with motherof-pearl elements, marine-inspired artwork and unique bas-relief decorations, such as the bespoke piece in the owner’s suite. CLOUD 9 comfortably and luxuriously accommodates up to 16 guests (12 when chartering) across eight cabins, arranged as an owner’s suite, one VIP cabin and six doubles. In addition, accommodation is provided for 22 crew members plus a further two cabins for four staff members. The main deck offers an unusual layout which includes a swimming pool lying athwartships on the aft deck. Indoors, the main saloon consists of harmonious symmetries and linear patterns, combined

with precious materials and tactile textures, a trait repeated throughout all the yacht’s interior spaces. In the main saloon, bleached oak reigns supreme, cladding both the walls and deckheads, with one-direction grain converging precisely in an uninterrupted continuum of lines. The imposing lintels – bespoke single pieces - and the columns - true and proper sculptures - give an aristocratic appearance to the space, which is ideal for relaxing on the sofa and armchairs. Subtle and clearcut steel profiles decorate the furniture and bar, while a glass sliding door separates the main saloon from the forward guest areas. The saloon can be transformed into a fully-fledged cinema by means of a large screen and projector which descend from the ceiling by domotic system. Next, on the main deck, is a spacious spa area equipped with a massage table, hair salon and a private bathroom. Picturesque views of the ocean and sea breezes can be enjoyed from the fold-down balcony. Immediately forward are the six guest cabins. Each features a similar style to the main saloon, including the oak wood, but applied in seven different finishes to embellish each room. The walls are panelled in bleached oak, contrasting with the natural wood used for the deck head profiles. The opulent leather effect behind the television is achieved through the use of hammered oak, while a striped effect has been chosen for the wardrobe doors, embellished with fully customised handles. In the guest cabins, where the AV system, lights and blinds are managed by a “Lutron” system controlled through iPads, the joinery between materials, edges and profiles has been kept to a bare minimum to create an atmosphere of harmonious and understated elegance. In the bathrooms, the pure white of the calacatta marble on the floor contrasts with the depth of the emperor black marble; unit doors are made in dark oak, engraved with a circular pattern that is repeated on the glass shower doors and on the shower gratings. Located forward of the foyer is the galley, one staff cabin and crew quarters, including a lounge, a crew mess, office and 12 crew cabins. Towards the stern, aft of the engine room, two garages which, although housing two tenders and several water toys, boast design solutions and materials that are in line with the elegant style of the yacht’s interior spaces. The portside garage allows access to the water and opens onto a 25sq metre sea-level platform. The large beach club comes complete with tables, sun loungers and a shower covering an area of over 60sq metres.
An internal stairwell leads to the upper deck which houses a stylish open-plan saloon/dining area filled with natural light, featuring a mural depicting a tranquil sky scene. The versatile dining room is designed to offer an indoor-outdoor experience and glass panels slide open by 120° for al fresco dining options. Once the large circular table is removed, the space also easily converts into an open-air party deck in conjunction with the aft deck. The forwardmost area on the upper deck hosts the captain’s cabin and office, next to the wheelhouse, equipped with five interchangeable screens on glass panels. The private access to the owner’s deck – consisting of approximately 400sq metres of reserved space – leads directly into the media room. Designed as a private space for the family to relax in, it boasts a spacious sofa and large TV with a sliding door opening directly onto the aft deck transforming this space into a fully-fledged private outdoor cinema. A particular design detail that is found here and across the owner’s level is the mixed white wool and silk carpet: a custom-made bespoke single piece, with no joins. The mother-of-pearl details on the units create an interesting contrast against the pale oak, while the finish on the interior unit doors adds character to the room. In the forward area, after the spacious walk-in wardrobes, is the owner’s suite, with its centreline king-size bed. The suite is a refined oasis of privacy, decorated with fine details, such as the dark resin backlit feature lights that create an intimate atmosphere and the marine-themed artwork selected by Winch Design. Of special note is the bas-relief decoration on the wall, with its leaf pattern engraved into the wood: a true work of art, made by a Veneto-based craftsman and woodworker. Her bathroom stands out for its particular choice of marbles, different from all others on the yacht: the classic and semi-classic botticino on the walls are combined with the bush-hammered botticino on the floor, while the washbasin is notable for its dark and velvety shade of cappuccino marble. On the opposite side, his bathroom is sophisticated but practical and as in all bathrooms aboard CLOUD 9, design details are perfectly harmonised to optimise the uniqueness of the overall finish. Already lauded as one of the most impressive new superyachts to hit the water this year, CLOUD 9 is the culmination of the expertise of a team of perfectionists energised by the vision and enthusiasm of a knowledgeable owner.
