RIGHT: Grafton Furniture Grafton Furniture is a custom upholstery and cabinetry design lab and production facility located in Miami, Florida since 1964. They work with interior designers and trade professionals on residential, commercial and marine spaces. Being near one of the marine capitals of the world, it is only natural that interior designers who specialize in yacht decor utilize their furniture tailoring capabilities for luxury motor crafts. As yacht interior design now sets standards that match its residential equivalent, the need for those custom styled interiors to remain marine unique does not alter. Elegant choices of wear-resistant fabrics and precision cutting of cabinetry is required more than ever to achieve the desired look. With marine interiors the size and scale of each piece is critical for maximum use of the space, so incorporating hidden storage compartments into the main salon furniture is a very efficient design solution. One such example is the incorporation of Grafton Furniture into an interior scheme by Ari Loar Interiors. Ari uses neutral fabrics with contrasting wood that is aesthetically soft and soothing. If the incredible views from the port and starboard windows to the open seas were removed, the interior could be that of a residential client. In Grafton’s newly renovated design lab, they are able to cater to the designers by providing a place to discuss dimensions, choose elegant and functional textiles, wood species, finishes, and even the customized feel of cushions that provides the perfect, unique interior cruising experience. www.graftonfurniture.com

DKT Artworks Limited DKT was formed in 1979 by arts graduates Niki Davies, Steve Keeling and Sean Trowbridge who were excited by the potential they saw in the decorative arts. The early 1980s were a period of re-emerging interest in this field, with DKT very much a part of the revival. They won their first overseas contract in 1981 and opened their first workshop in 1984. They went on to consolidate their on-site expertise and considerably develop the studio aspect of their work, taking on contracts from around the world. As other talented artists and craftspeople joined them, they developed into the much larger and adaptable workforce which remains the essence of the DKT model. Acknowledging this, in 2013 they changed the official company name from Davies Keeling Trowbridge Ltd to DKT Artworks Ltd, representing a current team of around 35, with in-house expertise spanning painting and sculpture, industrial design, carving, restoration, gilding, textiles, signwriting, specialist decoration, graphics, management and CAD. DKT Artworks have also, essentially, built up valuable associations with like-minded, quality conscious companies in the overlapping fields of manufacturing, technology and crafts, which have greatly enhanced their scope and capabilities making them truly a Unique Creative Resource. DKT Artworks are returning to Monaco Yacht Show this year, once again showcasing the broad-reaching response to design concept realisation for which they are known. Fronted by a pair of beautiful verre églomisé panels, their stand will also display free-standing artworks, a triptych mosaic and a new piece of sculptural furniture. They have also been collaborating with Italian lighting company, Cantalupi, who will be displaying on their own stand a large artwork, a development of DKT’s layered, mixed-media technique exploring the effects of variable lighting. DKT will be on stand QAA32 in the Antoine 1er A tent, and, for the first time, they will feature a video of their London Studio, as well as comprehensive supporting images and samples. www.dkt.co.uk

Below: J. Robert Scott – The Ribbon Coffee Table J. Robert Scott, Inc. the luxury home furnishings manufacturer was founded in 1972 in Los Angeles by Hall of Fame designer Sally Sirkin Lewis, Founder and President. The company was born out of Ms. Lewis’ desire to provide her clients with contemporary, well made furnishings that met her uncompromising standards of quality and beauty. Her understated, signature style has become known as ’California Design’. J. Robert Scott can modify any of their existing items or create an entirely new piece, tailored to the specific needs of their clientele: ”If it can be drawn, it can be made.” It is not unusual to see skilled craftsmen, many of whom have been with Ms. Lewis for more than 20 years, hand sewing the edges of a sofa or patiently applying gold leafing to a console with a squirrel hair brush. The techniques used are the traditional construction methods that date back to the Renaissance, these talented craftsmen are truly modern day artisans. The Ribbon Coffee Table is a sculptural stainless steel and glass design by Sally Sirkin Lewis. Originally the base was drawn in an “M” orientation, however once the prototype was completed, they realized that the fluid curves of the shape would be much better reversed in the “W” position. The mirror-like high polished stainless steel creates reflections of random areas in the room, and due to the openness of the base, it does not impose on the space. It is a true example of the J. Robert Scott design philosophy of “furniture as an art form”. The Ribbon Coffee Table is 60” (153cm) wide by 20” (51cm) deep. www.jrobertscott.com

Leaf by Haberdashery Haberdashery is a London based design practice specialising in bespoke lighting sculpture and products. They have created over 350 bespoke light sculptures for clients in over 30 countries since 2008 for leading architects, interior designers and developers. Their latest product is Leaf, comprised of bone china leaves, all made in the UK, it is a delicate, customisable canopy system suspended from the ceiling to create a spectacular statement within an interior space. Leaf is available as a product system, where the customer can specify his or her desired finish and shape, with drop height tailored to suit a space on a made-to-order basis. Alternatively, customers can work with Haberdashery to create highly customized versions where a larger scale is required. This September, a new wall-mounted version is launched, ideally suited to Marine interiors, allowing designers to create flowing forms along walls, around stairwells or even along ceilings. Each leaf is hand-finished in real 14 karat Gold and Platinum lustres or white glaze, and then mounted on small brass wall studs (with tarnish proof coating) which can be subtlety orientated to great effect. When lit from nearby spotlights fantastic shadow and light reflections are created throughout the surrounding space. www.haberdashery.com

Esthec® Nautical Decking Esthec® was introduced as a revolutionary decking material for the yacht building industry. While the mindset of the nautical industry was mainly focused on using natural materials such as teak, Esthec® added a new dynamic by allowing architects and designers more freedom, both in terms of colour and design. In the last decade, a growing number of yacht builders have moved away from the traditional combination of teak and black caulking and choose Esthec® decking material, because of the many design possibilities it offers. Esthec® decking comes in a choice of 13 standard shades that customers can combine with five caulking colours. Using a different colour of caulking line can produce interesting effects and give the deck a completely different look. This has already been successfully applied on several modern and innovative yachts such as ARROW460-Granturismo by Mercedes-Benz and MY Okto. Esthec® Nautical decking is also very suitable for creating patterns and shapes and as such allows unlimited freedom of design. Not just straight or slightly curved plank designs in combination with traditional margin boards are an option, but also circles, herringbone patterns, mosaics, logos and compass roses. This enables boat builders, designers and owners to use the many design possibilities that Esthec® offers. www.esthec.com

We fully understand the demanding market we operate in and our clients are confident we can deliver.” As well as its huge choice of designs and materials (48 finish options for a single door lever design), the company offers a design and manufacturing service for designers with no minimum order limit and a policy of never saying no to a design concept, they would rather work with the client to find a solution to how the idea could be made. Turnstyle Designs developed a reputation over its twenty-five-year history for using a broad brush of quality materials and finishes and pride themselves on impeccable service and value for money. A fast turnaround range of products have recently been developed to target the refit sector of the marine trade, allowing Turnstyle to offer its high quality standard of product on a quick 10-14 day delivery. “ With all aspects of the construction and fitting being completed by the company, Gulf Craft will even simply make the chairs in the style desired. ”
The 47 metre Majesty 155 is the biggest superyacht yet to emerge from Emirates shipyard Gulf Craft. Gulf Craft, a 40-mile drive along the coast from Dubai, is leading the charge for superyacht shipbuilding in the UAE, with its new 47 metre Majesty 155. The company, founded in 1982, now employs close to 2,000 people, building some 300 yachts and boats a year. Its range extends down to 8.2 metres and there are five series, including a commercial line of passenger ferries and patrol boats. The Majesty Yachts range starts at 14.5 metres and prior to this latest launch its largest vessel was 41 metres. Four years of gestation have wrought this new flagship, a fine-looking craft which was designed in collaboration with naval architect Massimo Gregori Grgic of Yankee Delta Studio in Italy. From the steeply raked stem to the sweptback profile of the superstructure, there is a quiet class to this yacht that immediately draws onlookers to its grandiose yet welcoming presence. More of an impressive step up from the previous Majesty 135 than an extra six metres would suggest, chiefly because of its expansive 9.6 metre beam. The Majesty 155 is all GRP (glass re-enforced plastic) rather than the steel or aluminium as might be expected. With its unique properties, advance composite technology is allowing manufacturers across industries to enjoy leaps in progress by exploring dimensions that would not have been possible years ago, and the Majesty 155 is a distinct example. Correctly applied, GRP offers fantastic build flexibility, is virtually stress-proof, and does not suffer of fatigue. The fiberglass structure’s mechanical properties and strength do not deteriorate with time. These properties make GRP ideal for shipbuilding, and have Gulf Craft ready to produce larger yachts using the same material. Gulf Craft CEO Erwin Bamps sees this new craft very much as a small ship, not a big boat. With a round-bilge hull form, the Majesty 155 is strictly a displacement craft – the yard’s first – designed primarily for endurance and range. To that end the twin 2,011hp MTU 12V 4,000 M63 engines are “E rated” for commercial use, detuned for longevity and providing excellent fuel efficiency. Top speed is a leisurely 16 knots but a 53,260-litre fuel capacity means that, at its 10 knot cruising speed, the yacht has a potential range in excess of 4,200 nautical
24 Luxe Et Al
miles, allowing continuous cruising for more than a week at a time. The Majesty 155’s hull design allows for low fuel consumption, long-range capability, and incredible comfort. In addition to offering substantial space, the 9.6 metre beam allows for an even greater stability. The hull design was tank-tested in Italy, and the actual ship proves to perform above all expectations. She is easy to handle, stable, and quiet, leaving minimum wakes behind. Composite construction also affords exceptional flexibility. The hull is the fixed point; beyond that everything is up for negotiation, including the superstructure. The same is true of the interior. Gulf Craft will lay the boat out to the specified requirements of the owner. And that extends to the smallest detail. Barring engines and electronics, Gulf Craft manufactures almost everything inhouse. With all aspects of the construction and fitting being completed by the company, Gulf Craft will even simply make the chairs in the style desired. The wide beam allows plenty of room to work with. This first boat has a restfully Zen-like interior ambience, with pale woods, light upholstery and polished floors set off by dark polished accents. Leather vacuum-formed over-contoured panels create a classic threedimensional effect. Spread luxuriantly over three decks, the accommodation makes maximum use of the volume available. The Owner’s Stateroom is positioned forward on the main deck, its en suite stretching across the full beam and featuring a mirror that doubles up as a bigscreen TV. Furnished using only premium fabrics and leathers, with countertops made from Cappuccino Onyx and Crema Marfil marble, each and every design element exudes supreme elegance. The dedicated cigar lounge within the owner’s stateroom features a ceiling crafted from genuine cigar leaves, adding a delicate but artistic touch to the room’s alluring design. There’s a folddown balcony accessed via sliding doors, and the generous beam has allowed the terrace to extend inwards as well as outwards. The recessed area creates a small private outdoor area that can be used while cruising rather than just at rest as is the case with most folding balconies – allowing owners to enjoy panoramic seascapes from the privacy of their own room at any point during the journey. The main internal social area is found at the rear of this deck. Further along is a generous galley and crew accommodation,
with a stairwell leading down to a dining room and four en suite crew cabins. The boat comfortably accommodates five or six crew, yet retains the capacity to increase the numbers up to ten for charter work or more extensive entertaining. Access to the guest accommodation is via a stairwell, just aft of the master suite, there is also a lift for convenient transportation to the lower deck. Here the en suite staterooms are laid out four-square, in this first model it comprises of a pair of doubles aft and a pair of twins forward. Guests will be charmed by the eloquent design of the lower deck guest staterooms, which are finished using the finest Red and Green Onyx and Botticino Royal Marble. On the upper deck behind the large wheelhouse the captain’s cabin allows instant access while off duty. A more informal second saloon, with huge windows offering unparalleled panoramic views, occupies the rear section of this level. Complete with a bar, it offers a great entertaining area and opens out on to the spa pool deck directly above the aft cockpit. Twin stairways from the deeply bulwarked side decks lead to the palatial fly-bridge. A semi-circular cutaway at the trailing edge allows sunlight to pour down into the spa pool below; a waterfall is built into the lip, cascading from the sundeck into the Jacuzzi situated on the upper deck. Protected by a louvred hardtop, two large dinettes are served by twin fully equipped galley areas. The premier outdoor socializing area is a raised circular plinth encircled by three large, curved sofas and topped in teak, a teak table lifts open to reveal an exquisite illuminated fountain – an incredible centrepiece. The Majesty 155 is all about choice, to complement this and the shaded lower area is a further cockpit. Right back aft lies the beach club. Formed by raising a massive section of the transom (that doubles as a shade in its raised position) this is an utterly idyllic waterside retreat allowing full appreciation of the ocean surroundings. An extended transformer section drops on hydraulics into the sea to enjoy swimming or scuba diving or the amazing experience at night when the underwater lights surrounding the yacht are turned on. Designed and built in the UAE, the Majesty 155 combines refined elegance and class with an unmatched hospitality. Flashes of her geographical heritage can be found in the fountain on the fly-bridge or the complex mosaics around the spa pool.

Lazy Z (formerly Accolade) is a 51.40m motor yacht, custom built in 1997 by Oceanco in Dreumel, Netherlands. Lazy Z yacht has a steel hull featuring an aluminium superstructure with a beam of 9.8m (32 feet, 1 inch) and a 3.5m (11 feet, 5 inches) draft . This custom yacht is equipped with an ultra-modern stabilization system which reduces roll motion effect and results in a smoother more enjoyable cruising experience. She also features bow thrusters making her more manoeuvrable at low speeds. Built in 1997, the vessel underwent a significant cosmetic and mechanical refit in addition to the replacement of the existing engines with MTU 16V2000’s, in 2015. The work was carried out at Derecktor’s Shipyard, Florida, in collaboration with interior design company De La Torre Design of New York.
“ Ernest de la Torre employs a timeless style that blends traditional and modern influences around a passion for art and design. ”
Inside, some of the major work involved a sweeping staircase accented with a three story wall of resin panels to imitate a waterfall. By eliminating the original and rather awkward double staircase, as much as one third more usable interior space was gained on the Main and Bridge decks. The main salon was made into a reception room that at night can be used as a theatre with a drop down screen and a sectional sofa that splits into several different seats that spread across the room. Another intervention was the addition of a case piece in the main salon that cleverly conceals the stairs to the bedroom while providing storage. A dramatic table topped with blue agate also lends itself to the concept of the colour scheme. The colour of the materials relates directly to the varied hues of the ocean and makes one feel like they are living atop the sea. The bridge deck was transformed into a spacious room with a bar at the corner and a bespoke television cabinet in the corner made from gouged wood upholstered in blue leather. The centre of room features a coffee table designed by the renowned London designer Vladimir Kagan. The overall design cleverly brings the serenity of the ocean into the interiors. Ernest de la Torre of De La Torre Design said: “The yacht had a contemporary, mostly beige on beige on beige design. The client wanted to make some sweeping interior architectural reconfigurations as well as have the boat feel much younger and fresher with the new design. One of the main features of the boat is the three-story staircase at its center. We eliminated a double riser for a single sweeping staircase keeping the dramatic three-story feeling but adding much more floor space to the rooms surrounding. I
32 Luxe Et Al
wanted a shot of subtle drama and color at the light filled staircase so I added a three story wall of resin panels that evoke a waterfall effect.” He continued: “Another significant change was made to the top deck with a large pool and a dramatic blue Bahia marble, half moon shaped bar. We also created an outdoor dining area that could be converted from lounge area to dining area without having to take tables from storage thanks to hydraulic mechanical tables. Small luxurious touches were important for me to add and included straw-marquetry panels in the bridge deck, inlaid with stainless steel discs evocative of bubbles in the sea. We also updated the master bedroom with upholstered panels that are surgically incised by an artist in London to create a pattern of waves above the bed. When you have such tight quarters for days on end, it’s important that every detail be special and unique. “I met the client like I meet most of my clients: they were a personal reference from another client. Although I had never designed a yacht interior before, they were confident that I could handle the task, given the homes, offices and airplanes of their friends they had enjoyed over the years. The owner said that for many years he would be on one size of boat and always envied the boat one size larger next to him. He gave me the great compliment of saying: ‘I am no longer envious; you made a boat like a custom tailored suit and it fits me perfectly -I don’t need anything larger.” At 182 feet, I would hope not! But such is the world of yachts.” Ernest de la Torre employs a timeless style that blends traditional and modern influences around a passion for art and design. His bold approach has established Ernest as an interior designer who consistently breaks new ground for clients, discerning their needs and custom tailoring surroundings to be a perfect fit to them. Raised in Lake Forest, Illinois, his passion for design was influenced by the local classic architecture of David Adler and Mies van der Rohe. De la Torre embarked on his design career at Peter Marino Architects in New York, and later bolstered his knowledge through graduate studies at Sotheby’s Fine and Decorative Arts in London, and later at Columbia University. De la Torre further honed his architectural vision by teaming with Ian Schrager and later with the Ralph Lauren Home Division, creating new furniture, lighting, and table top and textile concepts. De la Torre founded his own design studio in 2001 and has since completed significant homes in Manhattan, Palm Beach, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Vermont, Beverly Hills and Greenwich, CT.

Style Luxe Bible Et Al 35
Mr. Roberto Zambrini CEO, Mondomarine MC Sarl What projects are you currently working on? We currently have a 50m designed by Hot Lab ready to be delivered and a 60m designed by Luca Dini to be delivered in September. Next year we are delivering a 40m explorer designed by HydroTec and a 54m designed by Luca Dini. All of the above listed are engineered and built by Mondomarine. As Cantieri di Pisa we have just started our first two units: a Cantieri di Pisa 22m and a new Akhir 42s, both of them designed by Luca Dini. For these projects, the engineering was done in-house. What projects have you recently completed? Our last delivery was our SF40, M/Y Serenity, that reached his owner last January. What do you feel is the future for super yacht design? More than peculiar characteristics I would say that those which will be able to match the clients’ needs will be the ones overcoming the challenges. Today’s clients are looking for something made to measure for their needs, starting from the design up to the performances. And what do you feel are the biggest challenges we will have to face in the future? The clients’ major concerns today are fuel efficiency and comfort on board. New materials and technologies are something we are really focusing our attention on to be able to keep on raising the bar of the quality we are delivering. What are your favourite recent projects? Please describe key elements... SF40, M/Y Serenity, is definitely a revolutionary project. Keeping a very sexy and sleek line, we were anyhow able to give impressive interior spaces. The boat is 499 GT, as most of the 50 m on the market are, with just 42m of LOA. The key feature on board is definitely the Owner’s cabin split onto two levels. This cabin has an amazing sea view and an unrivaled privacy that the owner is granted on all of his dedicated upper deck including as said his cabin, a private cinema room and two stunning external areas for sunbathing, one at bow and one at stern. What products/services could you not live without? A vacation on a nice yacht. Please list the following: i. The place that gives you most inspiration: Sardinia ii. The place you can relax: Puntaldia, Sardinia. iii. The most inspirational design scheme/project you have seen/visited in recent times. The Cantieri di Pisa Akhir 42S.

What projects are you currently working on? We are now working on the project S501, a 49.9m displacement yacht under 500 gt in light alloy 5083. The achievement of a great result has been to remain under the target of 500 GT still having the deck free from the tender and high ceiling all around the yacht. Folding bulwark on the large aft deck and windows which are floor to ceiling let the Owner and his Guest live on board constantly in contact with the sea. The Master cabin has folding balcony to enjoy the freshness of the air and the smell of the sea directly from inside the cabin. The large sundeck with the Jacuzzi and glass bulwark is the best place to sunbathe in extreme privacy while navigating at 16 knots. There are several water toys to complete the equipment of the yacht. Also, the S701; 71m displacement, steel hull and light alloy 5083 superstructure yacht. The GT on this yacht is huge, around 1.600 tons. S701 has a large beach club area, which features a sea view sauna with glass door to let the Guest jump directly into the water, a hammam and a large Gym. Direct access to the main deck saloon veranda from the sea is through the beach club, stepping on board from the tender onto the aft platform. The Master cabin is on the sun deck and the entire deck is dedicated to the Owner. A personal Jacuzzi tub is just in front of his 180 degrees sea view cabin. A touch and go helipad for quick transfer from/to the yacht is convertible in a lovely dance floor or sunbathing area equipped with chaise lounge. The S603, a 60m displacement, steel hull and light alloy 5083 superstructure is another project, amongst others, that we are following and developing in Tankoa in this moment. A stunning plumb bow motor yacht with an extremely nice looking profile and silhouette. This motor yacht is equipped with a bow helipad for touch and go landing. The top speed is of 16.5 Knots and the long range of over 4.500 nautical miles is granted at 12.0 knots. The upper deck is the Owner’s private area with bedroom, dressing, personal laundry, office. On the same deck are the wheelhouse, the Captain cabin and a Jacuzzi pool. On the lower deck aft, is the beach club with toys storage, diving equipment and the tender garage. This area has folding platform for the contact with the sea. What projects have you recently completed? The S693- M/Y Suerte, 69.3m displacement yacht with steel hull and light alloy superstructure. She has been built with double class survey, high technology, state of the art electronics and entertainment audio video equipment. 4K curve TV is already installed on board. Attention has been paid to the Guest and Crew circulation flow to
avoid interference between the Crew and the privacy of the Guest on board, letting the crew have some hidden passage to reach the cabin for the room service without the need to cross other area, directly from the Crew quarters. Suerte, our completed and delivered project S693, has a top speed of 16.5 Knots even if higher speed has been reached during the sea trial. The target for Suerte can be defined as SMART – specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time bound. This is our philosophy. To build a yacht together with the Owner to make his dreams come true. What companies have you worked with for the above projects? To build these large yachts and develop new concepts, there is the need to collaborate with well established firms within the industry. We have work with Studio Ruggiero as Naval Architect for the performances of the yachts and the safety on board / Studio Paszkowski Design for the beautiful line and the interior design of our already delivered and new presented project. Faser Electronics for the A/V entertainment on board and electronics for navigation and surveillance, Intersona for the avoiding of vibration and acoustic insulation, Vega Yacht Painter for the preparation, fairing and painting of the entire yacht, Caterpillar engines, Northern Light generators, Hug soot burner, Viraver glass, Vosper Naiad for the stability system and bow thruster. Names which do not need a presentation as they are well established in the Yacht industry field. A package of repetitive subcontractors which are familiar to the Management Team of Tankoa and which grant the safety of a well executed job and result.
to interpret their wishes and understanding their taste and their way of living, is crucial. With us, this can occur throughout all the entire period of the construction, since we are very flexible and, having our Italian DNA in style and craftsmanship, allows us to understand every request. And what do you feel are the biggest challenges we will have to face in the future? For us the real challenge is making the owner understand and keep track of where his money goes. Yachts are luxurious, perfectly engineered floating mansions and I feel that with most of the money spent, sometimes you don’t really perceive where the cost of a yacht is. In our case, what you spend, is perfectly related to what you see. Everything is tangible. You have the perfect compromise between offer and purchase. www.tankoa.it
What do you feel is the future for superyacht design? Is to give exclusive exterior and interior design. To make the yacht owner feel he has “one of a kind” and nobody else has, along with trying to reduce delivery time. We feel confident in giving such characteristics, which for us are paramount, because we offer real ‘custom made’ yachts. Everything is entirely produced by artisans. Real expertised craftsmanship, starting with the simple wish of the owner, following the process of realization. This is why we define ourselves ‘PARTNER OF YOUR DREAMS.’ Yacht Owners usually have very little time to spend in decisions because their schedule is full of appointments. This is why, being able

What projects are you currently working on? 60 Cantius Fly Bridge 54 Cantius Fly Bridge 50 Cantius Coupe
What is your most recently completed project? 54 Cantius Coupe
What companies did you collaborate with on those projects? Collaboration between Cruisers Yachts design and engineering team and Patrizio Facheris from Facheris Design and DLBA (Donald L. Blount & Associates) Navel Architecture marine engineering. Our CNC tooling needs were graciously met by Marine Concepts and Christensen Fiberglass.
Are there any key design directions you would like to discuss? Cruisers Yachts is a production yacht builder so we must meet the needs of a broader base of clientele. In our latest “Cantius Series” we asked for input from our dealers and owners to cater to their needs. Taking that input, we have placed emphasis on single level design allowing for easy transition from one area to the next; on the main level, you will find cooking, dining, and entertainment amenities, below you will find a more private area bathed by light from the atrium above, for the owners and VIP guests. Large glass hull side windows keep the lower living area airy and inviting with unique panoramic views.
Trends going forwards? Some general trends I see going forward, continue to blur the line between interior and exterior. Transform areas using fold down and slide out features, to increase entertainment options, convert use-specific zones into multi-purpose areas. Blending materials is important: glass, steel, stone, wood and leather. We should strive to integrate the ever increasing “smart” digital technology into future designs. What are your favourite recent schemes? Please describe key elements... Key elements from our Cantius series interior include: •• Easy transitioning between living and entertainment areas •• 360 degree panoramic views from the salon •• Easily transform to open up to the elements. •• Clean linear lines and minimal hardware. •• Contrasting woods, textures, colors and materials. •• Multiple entertainment areas including fore deck cocktail lounge /sun bathing area. What products/services could you not love without when designing? The number 1 tools I couldn’t live without are simply a pencil and sheet of paper. You can substitute digital pens and paper however it all starts with an idea and a sketch. Other tools include 3D CAD software Rhino and digital rendering software KEYSHOT. With the ever increasing tight tolerances computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines are a must.

What direction do you feel design is moving towards in general terms? Life is changing and people’s habits are changing, competition is growing and the market is full of options. We have to respond to all of these factors with unique designs and strong and reliable brand identity. To meet a customer’s expectations we have to make him feel unique and special, very special, comfortable and secure with our product (he is ultimately putting his life in our hands when sailing across the pacific). Make him trust us and choose our product. Design is all around us, diverse, and driven by different factors in different design fields. And there are so many more factors to consider when talking about good luxury design, this is a long discussion…
Name five key themes to consider when approaching design.
If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be? Stay strong with your design philosophy, but always listen to client needs and expectations. Be aware that you are helping him make his dream come true. A designer’s work is so diverse – how do you manage to hold down a career and a life? Work- life balance is the key to success! I truly love my job and I could probably work 24/7 but I am also aware that the highest quality of my projects depends on many factors, also from my good personal life, my hobbies, sports and pleasant moments that I derive outside of work. My life, people around and positive energy inspire me to be a better designer!
– Integrate a combination of smart solutions and luxury finish – Utilize quality materials and advanced technology – Always stay creative – Do not follow trends too much – Place strong emphasis on exterior lines (in terms of exterior design)
How important are The International Yacht and Aviation Awards as recognition of talent and achievement?
And key trends that we should be aware of?
What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?
Trends are tricky and they have a tendency to last short periods. They make sense in the fields of fashion, design or cars but not in the yachting industry. In my opinion the key to yachting design is the customization of projects, implementing the latest technology and advanced designs. Yachts that will reflect the personality of their Owners. The yachting industry will most probably start to customize and start doing what Sunreef Yachts began doing 13 years ago. What’s more, I think Multihulls highly outweigh all monohulls units. I am confident that, in the following years, Customers will more and more gravitate towards the stability and functionality of catamarans and trimarans which provide greater comfort on board than traditional monohulls.
What projects are you currently working on? I am currently working on something very special and exciting. Sunreef`s new project will push the catamaran and yachting industry to the highest level and will have the competition green with envy.
It’s great that the competition acknowledges the efforts of designers and not only completed projects. This kind of awards encourage further development.
My goal is to develop and implement the new design that I am currently working on. It will be a new way of luxury living aboard and the continuation of the Sunreef Yachts philosophy. Final thoughts; tell us a little more about yourself… The car you drive? Mercedes E coupe 2012. Your favourite place to travel to in the world? No single favourite place. I love to explore new destinations all the time. Your favourite hotel/ restaurant/ bar? Anything simple I can sleep in, eat, take a shower, relax and enjoy travel. The place that gives you the most energy? The gym and my design desk And the place that enables you to totally relax? Definitely driving my own car and… all the AMG`s cars. Your favourite food and drink? Thai cuisine and Black Russian cocktails.

Tailored to her Mexican client’s specifications by Bilgin’s design team in conjunction with Unique Yacht Design and H2, BILGIN 155 was seen off to international waters… On the 22th of July 2016 Bilgin 155 was delivered to her owner successfully from West İstanbul Marina, where she was berthed for sea trials and final interior arrangements. As announced by the luxury boat builder, she was seen off to international waters by the team who has worked diligently on her until the very last moment to ensure it would meet the exacting demands of the Bilgin family. Named GIAOLA-LU by her Mexican owner, Bilgin 155 offers superb accommodation and amenities for her guests in comfort, style and elegance. This was a fully customised superyacht for the client who arrived in Istanbul for the delivery.
“ Her expansive sun deck is extremely versatile, with a hot tub, sun loungers, sofas, a dining table and a bar providing guests with a host of different options. ”
Whilst the Bilgin 155 team were dealing with the final arrangements, the owner stayed on board; it was paramount to all that the layout of the living spaces would be optimised to provide the most enhanced indoor/outdoor family living and allow the owner to accommodate a large number of guests.
Accommodation on Giaola-Lu is for up to 12 guests, with a master suite, VIP cabin and four lower deck guest cabins. The full beam master suite has his and hers bathrooms, a walk in closet and an office. Large saloons can be found on the main deck and bridge deck with plenty of space for dining or lounging on the aft decks. Her expansive sun deck is extremely versatile, with a hot tub, sun loungers, sofas, a dining table and a bar providing guests with a host of different options. Another seating and sunbathing area can be found forward of the bridge, where there is also storage space for two Jet Skis.
“GIAOLA-LU and the team became immediately a part of our client’s family,” said Yıldırım Bilgen, Bilgin Yachts Senior Sales Manager. “Together they worked out the final details of the transfer. They said that they were more than happy to see the dedicated efforts of our team and showed their gratitude in a very nice way by calling the team back on board just after delivery to give them small presents.”
Two tenders are stored in the superyacht tender garage, with side opening gull wing doors for launching, while another door opens at the transom to open up the beach club and create a large swim platform.
The most distinctive characteristic of Bilgin 155 is her network infrastructure that allows one to control the sound system, climate controls, lighting, curtains, televisions and cameras via an application that works on any mobile device. She also has a crucial entertainment system, supplied by Harman Kardon. Bilgin 155 is expected to be back on Turkish waters after two weeks for her exterior shots in which she will be playing the lead role in a setting where green meets blue…
Bilgin’s displacement line also includes the 47.6 metre Bilgin 156. The first one is being built on spec at the Turkish yard and is due for delivery at the end of this year, while the second Bilgin 156 hull is scheduled for a 2017 delivery.
This yacht is a 46.8 metre steel and aluminium motor yacht, H2 designed for Bilgin Yachts Shipyard, two years ago. Unique Yacht Design and Bilgin collaborated to produce her system design. She is the most recent vessel of the Bilgin’s displacement line, with a beam of 9.20 metres and a draft of 2.45 metres. Designed and equipped to RINA Commercial Class Maltese Cross Hull,

Mach, Y unrestricted and LY3 regulations, she will be able to be used for unrestricted coastal and offshore cruising around Europe, the Mediterranean, the Atlantic and the Caribbean. She also features a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure in accordance with the rules and regulations of her recognized classification society and flag state. Designed for an optimum combination of sailing performance and comfort, her specifications are truly impressive. Powered by two CAT C32, 1450 bhp, 2300 rpm Marine Diesel Engines, she is expected to reach a maximum speed of 16 knots. She is fitted in accordance with regulations A1+A2+A3 unrestricted navigation.
In October last year, Bilgin signed an order with a repeat client for the Bilgin 263, which, at 80 metres, will become the largest superyacht built in Turkey.
Bilgin Yachts were established in 1929 and are based in Istanbul. Five generations of the Bilgin family have built superyachts up to 65 metres utilising cold-moulded wood construction. Bilgin’s innovative yachtbuilding technique incorporates doublelayered epoxy laminated marine plywood on mahogany frames, covered with doublelayered FRP and West Epoxy Resin. Burma teak obtained from sustainable sources is used for all external deck areas. Bilgin Yachts offers a series of pre-designed superyacht models from 29.9 to 65 metres, but is willing to customise its new yachts to suit individual owner’s needs and desires.

Jim Thompson Fabrics With a history that dates back to 1950 when the first shop was opened in Bangkok, Jim Thompson Fabrics has a rich heritage originating from an American architect’s love of Thai silk. Working with local Thai weavers the company produced fabrics that were sort after by Hollywood filmmakers, Broadway musical productions and internationally renowned designers working with royal clientele. In 2007 the company expanded to Europe opening a showroom in the up and coming art district of Munich. Jim Thompson America has over 20 showrooms across North America. When the Paris showroom opened on October 3, 2013, the chic and fashionable neighborhood of St Germain de Pres came to a standstill. Their intricate hand woven textiles have adorned the most opulent interiors of superyachts, private jets and some of the world’s most exclusive luxury hotels, restaurants and private residences. Their traditional, luxurious fabrics have been adapted especially for outdoor furnishing, varying the age-old handwoven designs to increase strength and durability. Available in a wide selection of colour ways, the Jim Thompson outdoor range maintains that opulent furnishing fabrics should not be exclusively for inside the home.
We are not allowed to name specific projects, which is always a little frustrating although understanding. We delivered a very complex set of hardware at the end of last year for a USA builder, designed by an Italian designer who’s client required every cupboard on board to be fully lockable (after a previous yacht had a very rough Atlantic crossing resulting in cupboards opening and contents flying all over the yacht). We had to work very small locks into about eight different types of push button handles, espagnolettes and T bars, making sure we did not compromise the aesthetics whist ensuring the locks were reliable and robust. We also made co-ordinating door levers, fiddle rails and grab rails to match, incorporating leather, wood and shell inlay into the brass work. Two
years of development but a very rewarding project in the end. The client, designer and shipyard were all very happy with the result. Working within the Superyacht sector must be different than the domestic and commercial markets, have you found this to be the case? Yes, the Superyacht sector sets the benchmark for quality of product and the level of service. It is a great industry to work in with friendly and professional clients. It is often very challenging to convert clients` designs into a viably reproducible product, however by being pushed to the limits in engineering and craftsmanship is how we are able to keep pushing the boundaries of what we do. For example, our hardware needs to look beautiful but it also has to function in ways that is not necessary on dry land, quiet, robust lockable cupboards for example, removable fiddle rails, certain fire rated doors many need levers in stainless steel but in the same design as the rest of the yacht. The supply chain is also more complicated, from specification by the designer to working with up to 6 different fit out companies for a large Superyacht, coordinating manufacturing can often be very challenging. And trends/design directions moving forward... Product wise, we are seeing more and more demand for sliding and pocket doors, both on Yachts and on residential homes, we are launching a number of new designs at this year’s Monaco and Mets shows. Grey is also growing in popularity as a colour, we now offer a Slate Grey leather and a Woven leather alternative. We have seen a huge rise in demand for vintage metal finishes however this has yet to come through in Yacht design, Polished Brass is making a comeback as well.

What projects have you recently completed? We have just completed an amazing promotional design launched at the European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition in Geneva. The Jet Aviation Basel Design Studio was responsible for bringing to life two diverse, yet complementary design schemes, one for a B787-9 and one for an A350-900 aircraft, against the backdrop of showcasing our design process. The highlight of this was a film, created in co-operation with ACA Advanced Computer Art, which shows how we as a Design Studio reach a highly bespoke and custom designed interior, from the very first sketch to final delivery of the aircraft to our customer – every element considered and designed with our client in mind. Where do you feel aviation design is going in terms of interior schemes? In the specialized field of private aviation interior design, I see our clientele taking more advantage of the luxury of speed and space in creating the most sophisticated and tailor-made interiors for our clients. It’s a move towards what I call “ultra-aircraft” design: the ultimate interiors for our clients in terms of comfort, functionality and luxury. The future is about consolidating aviation design with lifestyle – a discipline which stands proud alongside high-end residential and super-yacht design, able to meet the needs of the most demanding clients with sophisticated design and creative technical solutions, with the highest attention paid to every detail. Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2016 and beyond: 1. More refined use of interior space and proportion. Bedrooms and bathrooms are extended to be much more than functional spaces, but areas in which to fully relax. Dining and living spaces merge and cooking preparation moves away from commercial aviation, becoming more elegant and multifunctional. 2. The search for ultimate comfort in the air. As flying times increase, so do the requirements for enhanced sleeping, relaxing dining and entertainment possibilities in the interior. 3. Technology and innovation will be enhanced. No longer an add-on to the design at some secondary
52 Luxe Et Al
Jet Aviation Design Studio Design Director www.jetaviation.com
stage, technology will be integrally designed within the backbone of the interior, and remain predominantly hidden from view. 4. Designing fully with the aircraft in mind. Unlike home and yacht design, exterior parameters are set in aviation. We’re challenged to work with the existing space and create something surprising and unusual with the layout to enhance the experience one has in the interior. This lends scope for optical illusions to come into play. 5. Sustainability takes on a new focus. Whilst our interiors are entirely bespoke and necessarily luxurious, using only the finest materials, all components are respectfully integrated into the interior, with the quality of build and finish giving each aircraft a true longevity that can be appreciated for years into the future. What are your favourite recent schemes? Please describe key elements. I find any design which challenges traditional thinking particularly inspiring. Perhaps a good example would be Abu Dhabi’s new Louvre museum designed by Jean Nouvel. For me it is about quality in its highest form, with function and aesthetics achieving a standard beyond the ordinary. With regards to aviation interior design, it is much more than making the space look stylish and attractive; it is about understanding and working with the full potential of the space and enhancing our client’s living experience in flight. What products/services could you not live without when designing? For me, a soft lead pencil, a graphics tablet, a passion for design and an enquiring and detailed mind are essential to create industry-leading private aircraft cabins. As a designer, what is the place that gives you most inspiration? I find that anywhere where I can appreciate both the wonder and force of nature particularly inspiring. That may be sitting with a cool glass of wine watching the sun set over the Mediterranean sea in the south of France, appreciating a fierce thunderstorm at the end of a hot summer’s day in my hometown of Basel or watching as the wide open expanse of the Russian Steppe unfolds beneath me as I fly, for example, from Beijing back to Switzerland.
“ it is much more than making the space look stylish and attractive; it is about understanding and working with the full potential of the space and enhancing our client’s living experience in flight. ”

It stands out for its streamlined bow and rakish lines expressing a strong personality, but can also boast an imposing stern with hawses, thereby maintaining the family feeling with previous Baglietto yachts. A new element characterising the exterior lines is the compact shape of the superstructure, which is not too high to enhance aerodynamic penetration. The project focused specifically on open deck space to optimise guest’s contact with the sea. The aft section of the upper deck is almost entirely a large sea-facing terrace, a wonderful expanse of teak that accommodates a large table and equally generous sunbathing area. Interiors present incredibly spacious volumes for a planing vessel of this size. The warm shades of rosewood alternate with the colder white lacquered ceiling and side panels, resulting in very refined, contemporary, stylish interiors. The classical layout reveals four guest staterooms, all ensuite, on the lower deck, as well as an owner’s suite on the main deck that incorporates an office, dressing
room and bathroom. There is a comfortable saloon on the upper deck, in addition to the captain’s cabin and bridge. The crew quarters, comprising four two-berth cabins, one single and a mess, are on the lower deck. The yacht, is classified with Lloyd’s Register of Shipping and compliant to MCA standards. The boat was built entirely at Baglietto’s headquarters at La Spezia. Everything, from its design to its construction, took place there. Balglietto believe it is a true testament to the engineering and innovational challenge that involved all the contractors in the La Spezia nautical area. It’s emotional launch was celebrated at the shipyard with the yard’s staff and their families. The new 54m vessel Unicorn was built using Baglietto’s extensively tested platform for 53m yachts in steel and aluminiumwhich can boast the construction of some outstanding crafts like the Blue Scorpion, the Gitana, and the Baraka-- and features the solutions and stylistic elements that have made the brand’s international success over the years. Its aesthetic features are also serving as a ‘preview’ for the restyling that will characterise the 43m, 48m, and 55m yachts currently being built at the shipyard, as well as the forthcoming 58m and 62m projects. Classic yet contemporary, the interiors of Unicorn strongly reflect the Owner’s personality creating a rich and sophisticated atmosphere. Two Caterpillar 3512C engines push the Unicorn ever onwards at a maximum speed of 16 knots. Boat builder Baglietto Spa specialises in the construction of new planing aluminium yachts ranging between 35 and 50 metres in length and steel & aluminium displacement mega-yachts above 40 metres. The company’s activities also include topquality ship repair and refitting services, as well as the construction of military crafts, the Seagull brand’s traditional business. Extending over a more-than-35,000 square metre area, overlooking the Gulf of the Poets – a truly strategic area for mega-yacht traffic in the Tyrrhenian sea-- the shipyard recently completed an extensive reconstruction project that involved both its manufacturing and commercial facilities. Baglietto today can offer to their clients a full range of products between 35m and 65m, both planing (the FAST line which include vessels of 35m, 43m and 46m and a 44m Open-style) and displacement yachts (44m, 48m, 48m Explorer-type, 55m and 62m). A ‘tender’ line of 13m and 19m – the MV line – complete the range.

Holly Hunt is known for a look that is consistently at the forefront of style and quality, their showrooms, furnishing collections and interior designs lead the industry in luxury home furnishings and interiors. This fact was the driving force for the clients’ choice of interior designer, they wanted the interiors of their yacht to evoke the spirit of her showrooms and products. They also specified that the colour palette had to be inspired by the Weimaraner dog breed and that above all else, the project should be fun!
“ Holly Hunt’s desire is to guide the spectator’s experience through timeless furnishings, luxurious materials and proportioned spaces that evoke serenity and tranquillity while embracing the relationship to the surrounding waters. ”
Their approach to the 125 foot yacht, their first; was to create interior spaces that embraced the client’s lifestyle, yacht envelope and seascapes. They were candid with the client and told them whilst they had never designed the interior of a yacht, they were experts on how to make beautiful, luxe and timeless spaces. The design concept was to create and understated luxurious multilayer interiors. Each layer helps to delineate spaces, adding texture and generating a unique identity. Special attention was given to the window surround, as these are part of an integrated feature that flows from floor, to wall, to ceiling. The ceiling design at the main salon is the “core” of the design; it defines gathering spaces versus circulation and creates a soft and intimate space around lounging areas. Its geometry and elements exposes luxurious materials and lighting while revealing the inner curves of the hull. The selection of finishes and furniture throughout the interiors was carefully curated reflecting an elegant simplicity, which Holly Hunt is known for. The flow of floor, wall and ceiling materials from room to room adds a sense of continuity, sometimes to conceal or divide spaces and the continuity is broken when a focal point is revealed. Neil Zuleta, Lead Designer and Director of Interior Architecture and Design at Holly Hunt said: “The entire design process including consultation with the client, evaluation of how they ‘live’ on the yacht, as well as developing the relationship with the

shipyard has been eye-opening and...we are having fun!” Holly Hunt’s desire is to guide the spectator’s experience through timeless furnishings, luxurious materials and proportioned spaces that evoke serenity and tranquillity while embracing the relationship to the surrounding waters. Holly Hunt is known for her creative and entrepreneurial leadership in the interior design industry through her nationwide showrooms and product excellence. As an arbiter of refined taste, her eye for what is now and next has led to her success. A native of West Texas, Holly began her career in retail starting at Foleys Houston, a federated department store, in their executive training program and becoming a buyer. More interested in becoming a designer, she moved to New York in the early 1970s, as design assistant to the President of a costume jewellery firm. Marriage, three sons and 10 years later, she founded her first eponymous showroom in Chicago’s Merchandise Mart. She was soon credited with raising the bar in the interior design industry. Over the following years, Holly opened showrooms coast to coast, and eventually designed and built her own collections of special home furnishings made for interior designers and their clients. HOLLY HUNT showrooms soon became the premiere design entity for luxury interior furnishings in the US and the HOLLY HUNT brand was formed. Today, ten beautiful HOLLY HUNT showrooms extend through the US and London. HOLLY HUNT product is also sold through other design showrooms in the US, Canada, Taiwan and Moscow. Holly sold her company to KNOLL INC. in 2014. Yet the HOLLY HUNT company remains a standalone entity under the Knoll umbrella and continues to grow. Holly remains CEO today overseeing all creative departments and HOLLY HUNT showrooms worldwide.

“ The deck space aboard Sybaris is unprecedented on a sailing yacht. This is perhaps most apparent on the enormous 117-sqm flybridge, a signature feature of Perini brand. ” Perini Navi is proud to announce the technical launch of the 70m ‘Sybaris’ - its largest and most advanced sailing yacht since The Maltese Falcon. The 70 metre ketch was built to the same uncompromising levels of quality, comfort and safety that characterise all its yachts, but her design and engineering have been taken to the next level. This has been achieved in part because of her greater length and volume, but is also thanks to the Group’s ongoing research into new technical solutions and her experienced owner’s input and insistence on excellence from the very beginning. The exterior design by Perini Navi’s Technical & Design Office, lead by Franco Romani, Head of Design, with considerable input from the owner’s team, is noticeably sleeker and more sculptured than previous models with a less pronounced sheer line and more vertical bow. The contribution of Philippe Briand, called in to optimise the naval architecture and powerful sail plan, was fundamental in integrating high performance with luxurious comfort at sea. Another conspicuous evolution, this time introduced by the owner’s team, is the dynamic wave-like design of the steps on both sides of the cockpit for a flowing connection with the open aft deck. The overhang of the superstructure brow above the windows has also been completely eliminated to present a flush surface that serves to lighten the visual impact of the superstructure profile. For the same reason, the section of superstructure forward of the helm station on the fly bridge is painted the same dark grey as the hull, and the engine room ventilation grilles have been restyled to seamlessly merge with the side windows. Not forgetting two carbon fibre tenders (a Limo and a Sport version) custom-built by Cockwells of Falmouth, and a 4.5 Zodiac RIB rescue tender, all of which are fully recessed into the foredeck. Thanks to these major modifications, both technical and aesthetic, the graceful and balanced lines of the anthracite hull and metallic silver superstructure belie the yacht’s considerable volume of 850 gross tons. The deck space aboard Sybaris is unprecedented on a sailing yacht. This is perhaps most apparent on the enormous 117-sqm flybridge, a signature feature of Perini brand. The owner brought in PH Design to create the highly refined interior design and décor, but their brief also extended to the open-air living areas. The Miami-based studio introduced the sculpted railings and other fixtures milled from solid titanium that appear throughout the yacht. The lustrous alloy is a notoriously difficult to work and Perini Navi had to seek out specialist craftsmen accustomed to working on components for Formula 1 racing cars to manufacture the bespoke fixtures and
88 Luxe Et Al
fittings. Even the bimini structure on the fly bridge is made of titanium with a central portion of UV and IR-treated glass to provide additional light without the associated heat. Peter Hawrylewicz, founder of PH Design was clear that the design goal was to design a state of the art sailing yacht for the owner’s family that best reflects their modern spirit. They based the concept on a highly customized environment concordant with the boat’s exterior, warm and modern, singular in its class, with clean lines and intense detailing and open spaces. A large variety of natural materials all held to a subtle muted palette. It was decided that it would have an interior that would show a modern art collection to its greatest advantage. PH Design worked closely with the Owner, to create an interior that would be perceived as special and original in the yachting world. For example, it was decided that the boat should have titanium ceilings to softly bounce the light and to compliment the muted tones of the American Ash millwork. The titanium is picked up in other areas of the boat including the doors and the custom hardware. Another unconventional decision was to forego any built-in storage credenzas along the sides of the main salon and dining area in lieu of 12 very large alligator travelling trunks. The trunks are suspended off of the floor with cast titanium straps. The overall effect is modern with a remote reminiscence of old world travel; the allure lies in the confluence of these two temperaments. The Owner, as always, provided the inspiration for going beyond the boundaries of the status quo. He contributed to the rational for striving beyond the basic gratifications. Sybaris is the manifestation of that belief. Peter Hawrylewicz said of the project: “My goal was to create an interior that was comfortable yet remarkable; an elegant environment with masculine undertones. My hope is that Sybaris will be visually less about decoration and more about the simplicity of the architecture. I tried to meet my client’s expectations by creating a warm, imaginative interior that was to some degree an extension of his land-based environments. He is an avid art collector and enjoys being surrounded by art. Conceptually his yacht, in addition to many functions, needed to be a living, floating art gallery. Keeping the interior of the main deck completely open created a gallery-like volume. One of my favorite details is the main stair which floats between two pieces of structural glass allowing one to look through the stair. The open aspect of the stair lends to the overall openness of the design. This is my first foray into luxury yacht design which to my client’s credit was an amazing act of trust. I believe he wanted a fresh pair of eyes. I was humble, but uninfluenced by
industry milieu and mannerisms. I hope my design will be viewed as unconventional and compelling.” The 87-sqm aft cockpit is protected by the overhanging fly bridge and curved glass windbreaks, and offers the same comfort and amenities that characterise all Perini Navi yachts. Bays for two tenders of up to 7m and a crew RIB are disguised under teak hatch covers recessed into the open expanse of flush foredeck, which has freed up the lazarette to create a 45-sqm beach club with gym and massage table. A fold-down transom platform and a smaller portside platform increase the size of the space still further. A dramatic sculptural feature is the central staircase leading down to the lower deck and up to the fly bridge. Made of titanium with glass balustrades and treads of bleached American oak, the Class-approved laminated glass panels alone weigh over 600kg each, requiring reinforced beams fore and aft of the stairwell to support the structure. To blur the boundary between the inside and outside environments, the titanium ceilings panels in the main salon continue through the glass sliding doors into the aft cockpit and softly bounce the illumination from the LED lighting recessed within. The same reasoning has been applied to the flooring, where the extra-wide planks of teak in the cockpit are mirrored in the oak floorboards of the main salon. The gentle titanium tones are accented with satin-finished bronze details to blend seamlessly with the natural hues of the leather upholstery, bespoke textiles and marble surfaces. The overall ambience is serene and understated yet graceful and sophisticated. The principal materials of titanium, bleached oak and Bianco Assoluto marble are continued on the lower deck in the 79-sqm owner’s suite and four guest cabins (a fifth en-suite cabin is designed for use by children or super-numeries). The openplan, full-beam owner’s suite is especially breathtaking with its king-size bed flanked by a study space and day lounge, and combined bathroom/wardrobe featuring washbasins and bathtub milled from solid stone. The well-appointed crew quarters and galley feature many of the same bespoke materials used in the guest areas with the addition of a lacquered anthracite finish. Even the titanium door handles, custom designed to look like the watertight airlocks on submarines, are reproduced in the crew areas. “As Perini Navi’s second largest sailing yacht launch to date, Sybaris raised numerous technical and aesthetic challenges,” says Burak Akgul, Managing Director of Sales, Marketing & Design. “But where there’s a will there’s a way, and the result is a uniquely beautiful sailing yacht that pushes the boundaries of design in every conceivable way.”
