Following on from the Monaco Yacht Show 2015 we are now working on articles featuring a great selection of new and innovative designs which we cannot wait to show you over the coming months. With so much change on a global level, so many challenges from all perspectives not least technological, this is an exciting time in design terms. Our aim moving forward is to bring you the best in design terms from both the world of yacht and aviation design. We cannot or will not attempt to look at technology in great detail, as a title that concentrates on design, this is really where our strengths lie From a design perspective I see the world

of both super yacht and private jet design currently as diverse in part and dare I say it I little unremarkable in part. It is time I feel to promote, expose and celebrate great style, schemes that heighten the senses and offer inspiration to all. Do I sound arrogant or opinionated saying this? I hope not, I speak to designers who are frustrated by their clients limitations and are striving to create exciting design schemes in a somewhat safe market place. I feel it is our job in the role of design publishers for both the yacht and aviation industry to promote good design, that pushes boundaries, limitations and excites both the mind and the senses. You can look forward to an exciting year ahead. Until next month Joanne

Nassima from Bluewater Yachts A great opportunity to purchase a 2012 North European built 50m. Extremely well built using many years of Dutch experience, NASSIMA also offers transatlantic range. Mondomarine showcases SF40 Serenity at MYS 2105 This September at the Monaco Yacht Show Mondomarine were delighted to showcase the first yacht in their new SF line, the 42.30m SF40 Serenity. The all alluminium yacht was designed by Luca Vallebona in partnership with Mondomarine Engineering, and they have produced a yacht whose functionality and layout have redefined the industry standard for this size range. The luxury yacht Serenity offers elegant and comfortable accommodation in 5 magnificent cabins, including a master cabin on the main deck and four guest cabins on the lower deck. The double-level master cabin is forward on the upper deck and has been innovatively designed to create a loft-style atmosphere, making the absolute most of the available space. The sleeping area, on the upper leve,l is fully immersed in the surroundings with a panoramic open view to the fore. A staircase leads down to the en-suite below which is more intimate and private, with light coming from the top and from the sides creating a relaxing hideaway. Serenity features an overall beam of 8,80m (28’10’’) and a draft of 2,20m (7’20’’). She can reach a maximum speed of 16 knots and a cruising speed of 15 knots, thanks to her twin MTU 12V 2000 M72 diesels. Mondomarine commented, ‘Each part of the yacht has been conceived both individually and in relation to the others so to provide a flow of aesthetical continuity and functionality where the eye is not hit by any “predominant” element but it is instead attracted by a harmoniously calibrated combination of elegant elements. ‘The distinctively clean exterior and interior lines produce a timeless sense of luxury immune from the influence of fashion and very focused on the enjoyment of the ambient and on the rediscovery of the essence of travel, adventure and discretion without any ostentation.’

Okto from Fraser Yachts The latest addition to the refined Fraser Yachts fleet of yachts for sale is Okto; an imposing, strong design which not only draws the eye but remains entirely unique. Despite the substantial 66m length and expansive upper deck featuring 80 square metres of space, this yacht is quiet, understated and entirely intriguing. A strange but alluring ambience of calm and relaxing comfort shrouds Okto. The talented design team were able to build serenity and silence into the yacht’s significant and stable structure. The intelligent architecture ensures a vacuum of sound and soundproofed rooms keep passengers protected from unwanted interruptions on board. An ideal yacht for entertaining, the onboard socialising and general white noise associated with most yachts in this class is seen but not heard on Okto. The effect is almost hypnotic, sailing has never sounded like this before. The yacht is a definite amalgamation of all the features which this experienced owner has learnt over the years. The stunning sun deck and palatial pool, the incredible interior design and lean, economic running costs make this a highly desirable design. Sleek, stylish and silent – there is a definite sense this yacht has broken new ground. A yacht to shout about, which does anything but; Okto is like no other, in all the best ways possible.

Amer 94 from Amer Yachts The new Amer Yacht is deceptively simple. Clean, chic and contemporary; a timeless classic. This minimalistic elegance is something of an illusive illusion however. Hidden beneath the beautiful, superior exterior is a powerhouse of mechanical mastery and absolute excellence. As the first Superyacht to adopt the Volvo Penta IPS engines, the Amer 94’ Save the Sea has been specifically studied and designed foreseeing the adoption of this revolutionary propulsion system: prospective studies have proved that, consumptions being equal, the hull of the Amer 94’ allows to reach a speed which doubles the maximum speed of a displacement hull, with a further decrease in noise, emissions and vibrations. Therein lies the secret to this craft’s brilliance; the yacht is a perfect blend of style and purpose which combines the outward appeal of authoritative design with genuine engineering excellence. With its eponymous title, this yacht represents a definitive, determined step for the company and brings a constant presence for the company’s ever increasing position within the yacht world. Whilst she is a delight for both admirers and passengers, Amer ‘94 Save the Sea is a symbol of bold innovative spirit which will no doubt make her one of the biggest talking points throughout her debut season. Amer 94’ is the result of a close cooperation between many of the industry’s powerhouses, this is the only foldable and with vertical bow tender available on the market.

Nautor’s Swan 115 S Debuts at MYS 2015 Nautor’s Swan were delighted to debut their majestic Swan 115 S sailing superyacht Solleone, the flagship of the SwanLine. The luxury yacht Solleone represents the queen of the new generation of the maxi yachts constructed by the prestigious Finnish shipyard, which includes Swan 95 yacht, Swan 105 superyacht and has luxury yacht Swan 130 on the drawing board. Since its launch in early 2014, the Swan 115 has enjoyed global recognition and immediate interest, with four yachts sold to date. The Swan 115S Solleone is the ultimate Swan, combining the iconic style and quality the brand is renowned for, with a forward-looking concept using leading edge build techniques and materials. Designed by German Frers the modern lines of the new carbon hull shape, has a plumb bow and wide stern. Top performance was central to the concept, with twin rudders for increased responsiveness, and a square top mainsail. The modern class teak interior is hand built by Nautor’s expert craftsmen in Pietarsaari, Finland, with light oil wax satin finishes and modern details throughout. Solleone has a semi raised saloon (S) designed for owners who appreciate cruising. The Swan 115 is also available in Nautor’s hallmark Flush Deck (FD) version. The owner’s cabin is found aft, whilst the three guest cabins and three crew cabins forward, all guest cabins are ensuite. Nautor’s Swan started the project two years ago and it was a challenge for the whole team to deliver one of the most superior yachts that they had ever built. Leonardo Ferragamo, Chairman of Nautor’s Swan said, “To reach this point, also for me personally, to bring out all this satisfaction, the realisation of a project of this nature means a great deal because it has been a continuous evolution of the company. Through the year we have taken the company forward, with its wonderful history and the mission to bring this iconic legend into the third millennium.” Luxe Et Al 15

SU Marine - Design Story of a 36 Metre Classic Motor Yacht Su Marine is pleased to announce the start of construction of a 35.70 m custom motoryacht. The announcement follows a long design phase where the yacht was fully tailored to the experienced owner’s requirements. The yacht, named NB11 for the time being, is slated for a summer 2017 delivery. The yacht has a stunning classic exterior design by Mr. Tanju Kalaycıo lu and shares some of its design language with the very successful motoryachts Darwin and Fugu. The new yacht offers unparalleled outside living spaces, an ideal arrangement for Mediterranean cruising. The fully custom yacht has been engineered to provide excellent seakeeping abilities, very low noise and vibration levels and will of course reflect the top notch quality Su Marine is known to offer. The project is much better described through the words of the designer, Mr. Tanju Kalaycioglu, also owner of Taka Yacht Design in Istanbul: “Tanju was contacted by an experienced yacht owner lady to discuss a possible new project; she had apparently loved the look and concept of a Taka designed 28.50 m commuter styled classic motoryacht DARWIN built by Su Marine. However she wanted a displacement type steel hull with a beam of 8 m, 5 cabins and lots of exterior lounging spaces. Design brief set and clear, Taka went to work… The genes of this classically styled mini ship are coming from our 22 meter wooden beauty FUGU created hand in hand with one of our design office’s first clients, now a great friend. Wherever she goes, she draws the attention of salty sailors and connoisseurs of finer things in life, often owners of much bigger boats. When this concept is stretched to 36 meters, a sleek profile resulted which is always what we aim for. The near plumb and fine bow, rounded stern, raked mast, cowls and classic windows with the balanced use of varnished teak all around define the character of this beauty. Hull is of shipbuilding steel with a round bilge and molded skeg. Range is ample with 30,000 liters of fuel tank capacity. A special feature of the superstructure is that it will be made completely with laminated wood- epoxy technique using best quality marine plywood. Exterior will be clad with prime Burma Teak only in way of the upper deck windows to give an extra classy look and demonstrate world renown Turkish wooden boatbuilding craftsmanship. Another exceptional design attribute in this classically styled but completely state-of-the art yacht is that upper deck has seating arrangements on four sides of differing sizes. On top of that there is a forward ‘sun deck’ similar to our design ROXANE which can be protected with a removable tent. There is a lot of hype about ‘green boats’. For us the most ‘green’ parameter is a long waterline length because the vessel achieves her cruising speed easily with low power. Also there are other items to increase efficiency bit by bit: fine lines, moderate displacement and beam, conservatively and continuously rated modern diesels, high reduction ratio gearboxes turning large propellers running in deep clean water and well designed appendages. All of these attributes are incorporated in our design. A single high capacity and far reaching telescopic hydraulic crane is fitted on the upper deck to handle two big tenders. Stern platform incorporates a transformer to act as a passerelle, swim platform and small tender launcher. Interior will be a relaxed colonial styling with two color paneling trimmed with a dark timber, parquet flooring, loose looking furniture, light colored leather, nice fabrics and high quality metal hardware.” 16 Luxe Et Al

The 2015 award for Interior Design in the Power Yacht category was one of the most anticipated of the event’s celebration on account of the many outstanding and exceptional designs to be nominated in this category. This year’s winner is Stella Maris; a spectacular 72 metre by from Italian superyacht constructors VSY. The company have won several awards in the past for many of their stunning designs and architectural masterpieces but the Stella Maris is incomparable and unrivalled. Whilst she epitomises the edification and atonement of elegance and sophistication, Stella Maris offers tailor-designed functionality and practicality; hugely attractive considerations for any potential owner. The project of this elite superyacht was entrusted to the expertise of the architect Espen Øino in cooperation with Laurent Giles Naval Architects. The concept was to blend traditional elements of design and layout with new variations on a theme. What ensued was a creation of architectural excellence – staggered internal decks, the increased space and light and the innovative form of the bow. The resulting layout ensures a volume, more usually seen in yachts of greater dimensions, of 2,114 GRT. The yacht is equipped with a certified helideck, a deck for the exclusive use of guests, a separate Owner’s deck and suites with a finished height of 270 cm allowing maximum space to be enjoyed. The Stella Maris also permits her guests the pleasure and surely an exclusive novelty - of enjoying green landscapes at sea with live house plants crossing the decks. Concepts of the internal and external spaces were interpreted in a very unconventional way to ensure a sense of originality and a bespoke experience. In the two main saloons and the Owner’s cabin, there are spectacular walls made entirely of glass, thus allowing

26 Luxe Et Al

the eye to see and enjoy beyond what would normally be a rigid barrier. The helideck and a sundeck, conceived also for evening use with suitable atmospheric lighting, are featured by essential materials and colour tones reminiscent of a Mediterranean beach which is furthe emphasized by the large beach area located near the water. The interior design by Michela Reverberi is inspired by simple lines together with refined embellishments of natural stones, fabrics and veneers which spell freshness, lightness and luminosity where the external and internal ambiances merge. Stella Maris with her split-level decks and sole to ceiling glazing is an extraordinary example of engineering sophistication and environmental responsibility whilst being ever mindful of her guest’s experiences and desires whilst on board. It is truly a pleasure to consider a yacht of such manufacturing magnitude to balance elements of light and genteel beauty throughout the sturdy and imposing design. Stella Maris is yet another example of VSY’s ability to interpret the most exclusive ideas of an owner; creating leisure craft where living at sea is an unimaginable privilege and pleasure. It is likely that Stella Maris triumphed in the Interior Design category on account of the complete synergy between Interior and Exterior design. Many of the strong elements of the exterior are emphasized and complemented in the interior, such as the vast selection of windows, the extraordinary heights and the use of light. The Interior project considered the architecture and the deeper decorative elements when plans were being conceptualised. According to those lucky enough to have visited the yacht, including designers, media and competitors, the yacht had the definitive “wow” factor immediately perceived as they arrived onboard.

The consistency of the exterior styling; the staggered decks, the interior heights, swathes of natural light flooding in from the panoramic windows create an impressive but comfortable ambiance for all passengers. The Stella Maris also won praise for her spaces of multifunctionality such as the main and upper saloons serving as formal meeting areas and social spaces, the live gardens bringing a sense of the land to the sea as well as the aforementioned window design allowing the stunning vistas to remain ever visible for guest choosing to enjoy the internal aspects of the vessel. The elegance and sophistication of the interior styling is further complimented by the selection of furniture and soft furnishings which decorate the interior aspects. Furthermore, the many environmentally-friendly technologies available throughout the yacht make her a consciously aware creation, with sympathy for her surroundings. Everything from the concept to the actualisation of this Power Yacht set her a class apart from her competitors and it is not without reason that VSY remain so successful, and highly praised, in their endeavours to create yachts of supreme standing and stellar design. The 2015 award is of particular significance for VSY as their first yacht, the 62 mt Sealyon (ex CANDYSCAPE II) won the first edition of the International Yacht Awards in 2011. A great success both for VSY and the Interior Designer CANDY & CANDY and the awards remain an important focus for the company each year. The Stella Maris is a yacht of exceptional beauty, power and functionality and to have won such a prestigious award only serves to enhance the many accolades VSY have achieved. A worthy winner and a company certain to enjoy many successes at the International Yacht and Aviation awards in future years.

5 Minutes with Francesco Paszkowski Company Position within company

What direction do you feel design is moving towards in general terms? Today everything is changing so quickly, the combination of technology and creativity are often unpredictable... Experience and skill are the starting point of innovation, new technologies and materials enable projects that were once unworkable. However, I think a big revolution is not expected. Instead, small changes – a more difficult job than it can appear as small changes are not recognisable at the first look - and details in design will make the difference. A more difficult job than it can appear. New materials or different use of space can bring changes and innovations. We are now working with owners coming from different countries and different backgrounds which is very challenging and I’m sure driving. Name 5 Key themes to consider when approaching design in 2015 and beyond? - professionalism (to be professional) - quality - coherency (in design) - uniqueness - elegance. What projects are you currently working on? As usual I’m working on several projects with Baglietto. A 54-m displacement will be finished later this year. Under the current Baglietto management, we are developing the exterior and the interior styling for the new Baglietto models both planing and displacement (the interior design in collaboration with the architect Margherita Casprini). It’s a challenging task as it requires updating the signature design motifs while preserving a high level of brand recognition. When Beniamino Gavio took over the shipyard I was really very happy we could understand each other very well and talk about the future of Baglietto. The first boat to be launched was the MV13, the 13m fast day cruiser that harks back to Baglietto’s roots in military boat production. Among the latest yachts launched this year we worked on recently, Pachamama, a brand-new 43 Fast is on show at the Monaco YachtShow together with Only One, a Baglietto 46 displacement, a sistership of the boat exhibited last year at Monaco Yacht Show. Although my career as a yacht designer took off with Baglietto, I had worked and I’m working with numerous other major shipyards both in Italy and abroad. I’m also working on some other designs with other shipyard such as CRN, Heesen Yachts and Tankoa. Suerte, the first 69-m Tankoa is on show as worldwide premiere at the Monaco Yachtshow. We designed

exterior and interior (interior in cooperation with Margherita Casprini). The first Explorer by Sanlorenzo – we just designed the exterior – is also on show as worldwide premiere at the Monaco YS while H1, the first SL 118, was the latest yacht built by Sanlorenzo we designed both exterior and interior (interior in cooperation with Margherita Casprini). If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes what would it be? Improve on new concept just avoiding any extravagance, sensationalism and the ephemeral. A yachts must reflect her owners personality because he has to feel at home when he’s on board. A designer’s work is so diverse - how do you manage to hold down a career and a life? I’m trying to make days longer than 24 hours, as everybody does! And to keep the right balance between joband private life. However a designer never stops to think about work as he always looks around and draw sources of inspiration everywhere anytime. It happens automatically... I like my job so much, from the very first idea to the last sketch, from the relationship with all the players involved – owner, shipyard, the whole team design - to boat launch. How important are the IY&A Awards as recognition of talent and achievement? I think it is an interesting initiative which gives relevance to yacht design What are your aims and goals for the next 12 months? Looking at the yachts when they finally sail and at their owners when they are happy as they got what they really liked to have. Tell us a little more about yourself; The car you drive? BMW Your favourite place to travel in the world? There are several ....but just stay in Europe, I’d like to travel across UK very much Your favourite hotel / restaurant / bar? Cadogan 11 in London/Nobu in Monte Carlo/Phi Beach in Sardinia The place that gives you the most energy? The beach along the Tuscany coast where I enjoy playing with my three kids The place that enable you to totally relax? At home or at my studio

“A yacht must reflect her owners personality because he has to feel at home when he’s on board.”

“ In an exquisitely indulgent ethos, the project was entirely dedicated to luxury; no expense spared, no corner cut in the pursuit of perfection. ”

With fond memories of the 2015 International Yacht and Aviation Awards ceremony still fresh in everyone’s minds, it is hard to believe the industry’s best companies are already submitting incredible projects for the 2016 Awards. As is fitting for the fast-paced, cutting edge and perfection-driven industry of luxury aviation, new concepts and creations are being debuted around the world which show improved, high-definition and entirely impressive designs delivered from years of honed expertise and award winning design. One such example of this is TAG Aviation’s latest addition to an already premier portfolio. The Four Seasons Private Jet was created in partnership with TCS Expeditions (TUI AG) for bespoke Round the World Trips. For more than 20 years, TCS and Starquest have provided the experience of a lifetime for their guests by providing the ultimate in service, comfort and convenience by flying direct and landing as close to destinations as possible. To date, they have operated over 200 expeditions to more than 150 destinations, making them the world leader in private jet travel. They work with some of the world’s most distinguished universities, museums and cultural organizations— National Geographic, the Smithsonian Institution, Harvard Museum of Natural History and more. Supply the industry’s most experienced and professional staff, including a physician and a chef, as well as guest lecturers accompanying them on every expedition, the team have set themselves apart as the leaders in aviation expertise. With decades of experience and an unrivalled skill-set they know exactly what is needed to meet and surpass above and beyond expectations in premium world travel. TCS and Starquest Expeditions have recently signed an exclusive partnership with the Four Seasons Group to provide additional round the world tours for high net worth customers combining a business jet travel with exclusive hotels and reports. TAG Aviation has created a bespoke and unique B757 200 ER to raise the standard of the aviation product to compliment these trips.

52 Luxe Et Al

The 757-200, which usually has capacity to carry 233 passengers, has been transformed by TAG Aviation creating a customised cabin interior with 52 flatbed leather seats, using a bespoke Italian design service and handwoven woollen carpeting. In an exquisitely indulgent ethos, the project was entirely dedicated to luxury; no expense spared, no corner cut in the pursuit of perfection. In essence, this design is dedicated to guest’s comfort; this mentality, desire and aim is what sets the company apart from competitors. TAG Aviation worked in partnership with Factory Design on this project. Factory Design oversaw and implemented the stunning exterior and internal aspects of this project. When discussing the firm’s inspiration for the project, company director Peter Tennent explained; ‘For years we have held the view that the hotel industry can bring a great deal to the aviation industry to enhance the passenger experience. Learning from approaches to service, brand connections and how spaces are created to benefit the passenger, initially in lounges, this influence has moved into the cabin environment. Our work on the stunning Four Season Private Jet is an obvious progression, by actually putting this prestigious hotel brand in the sky. We worked in conjunction with their design team, using our specialist knowledge and expertise in aviation to design the seat and create a truly unique cabin interior and aircraft.’ The aircraft can facilitate both leisure trips and business engagements, with a variety of versatile features being able to facilitate a range of needs. Each seat features a complimentary in-bult iPads which provides access to the on-board entertainment system and allows business or conference calls to be taken with ease. A specially trained team of experienced crew is travelling with the aircraft, providing guests with highly personalised service during the flights. The exterior was painted with a distinctive highgloss black finish and those lucky enough to have seen the Four Seasons up close are enamoured with The Four Season’s

aesthetic design as it is surely one of the most impressive. President Aircraft Management and Charter Services for TAG Aviation Europe, Graham Williamson confidently explains to Luxe et al the way in which The Four Seasons Private Jet is the perfect compliment to the company’s outlook and brand ambitions going forward. “Since its inception the TAG name has been synonymous with the pursuit of excellence as demonstrated by its investments in Heuer, the luxury Swiss watch company which TAG acquired, re-branded TAG Heuer and built into one of the finest watch brands in the World; the McLaren Group, the legendary Formula One racing team and TAG Aviation, the world’s foremost provider of business aviation. TAG Aviation also owns and operates Farnborough Airport which is consistently ranked as the best FBO in the world. The TAG Group is proud to have been selected by TCS Expeditions to create, complete and operate the unique and unsurpassed Four Season Private Jet.” he said. Strong, sleek lines and masculine, bold colours make this aircraft a truly imposing, impressive and artistic example of aviation architecture. Facilitating fine, luxury travel and a truly bespoke design; The Four Seasons is the epitome of sophisticated, classic craftsmanship. The hearty elegance of the exterior design is carefully complimented by the intelligent interior design. An exceptional addition to TAG’s substantial portfolio, The Four Seasons is a marvel of modern manufacturing and is sure to impress any audience whilst improving any travel arrangement. The Latitude from Cessna Textron Aviation - a classic proven Citation design that works The new Citation Latitude represents the perfect balance of comfort and efficiency and is the first business jet to combine a roomy, flat floor, stand-up cabin, with a midsize price and best-in-class operating costs. The Latitude is entering the market with enhanced performance specifications, including increased range of 2,850 nm at long-range cruise and 2,700 nm at high-speed cruise, as well as improved runway performance of 3,580 feet. The aircraft is configured for nine passengers. An open, spacious, bright and refined cabin environment, the Latitude is the most commodious of any Citation yet, with 6 feet of cabin height. Six individual chairs in the main seating area offer super-midsize cabin comfort. The Latitude’s standard seating arrangement features a double side-facing couch for additional, more relaxed passenger space. On the left-hand side is a refreshment centre and well-appointed bar. Pairs of facing chairs recline into full flat berths. Foldout worktables, when extended, fit flush with the sidewall rails to increase effective surface area. The 10 cabin windows are 25% larger in area than those of any previous Citation. Manually operated, pleated window shades have two curtains, one providing light attenuation and the other opacity. The windows are positioned well for outside visibility when either sitting or standing. LED wash lights in the ceiling, chair bases, cabinet and sidewall bottoms make the cabin feel larger than it measures. There are six sophisticated styling choices blending a unique palette of rich leathers, finely tailored fabrics, and polished wood veneers. Amongst these are the bold distinctions of the Black Edition Interior with a strong, confident flow of espresso toned veneers, luxurious satin black leather; and Silver Edition Interior Collection with a neutral palette of platinum blonde silks, luxury leathers, and plush textures, silver abstract patterns in a distinct, bold scale for a modern re-invention of nature. The Latitude’s stellar runway and climb performance will enable it to use considerably more small general aviation airports, many of which are sited closer to the business locations being served. It is the simple, sensible Cessna Citation design philosophy that has been the series’ hallmark for four decades, commanding unmatched customer loyalty, combined now with impressive avionic technology and sophisticated interior design that will ensure this aircraft’s success.

Dassault Aviation Falcon 5X - The go-anywhere big business jet The Falcon 5X offers the largest cabin cross-section of any purpose built business jet, and has set a new benchmark in the large cabin long range business aviation market. A 5,200 nm (9,630 km) range will permit it to connect the majority of the world’s most heavily travelled city pairs. Imagine flying from Los Angeles to London, nonstop. Or New-York to Sao Paulo, Shanghai to Sydney. Yet the new twinjet will be more fuel efficient than any other business jet in its category and will feature an approach speed of 105 knots, offering even more airport options for business jet operators. The 5X cabin itself redefines air travel experience. It has been designed to provide more personal space to sit or stand, and areas for privacy and relaxation as well as open communal areas. Absolute floor-to-ceiling height is the tallest in a purpose-built business jet — an impressive six-feet, six-inches. The 102-inchwide cross section – among the largest in business aviation – gives more elbow room, more aisle space, a larger galley and deeper, more comfortable divans. The comfort of the flight experience is further enhanced by a cabin altitude of just 3,900 feet, whilst at a cruise altitude of 41,000 feet, – a more comfortable environment for the passenger as it facilitates easier oxygen intake. Dassault’s unique cabin air filtration and circulation system keeps breathing easier, and getting more fresh air in the lungs. The 5X has innovation throughout, and the use of natural light from its 28 large, expansive windows, including an unprecedented direct view of the sky overhead through its skylight ceiling windows, provides not only unbeatable luminosity but addresses the sense of well-being, elevating mood and enlarging perspective. The 5X cabin has complete wireless technology including options for viewing entertainment content and news on iPads, and streaming content from tablets to cabin monitors. The personalised iPhone app even allows control of lighting, volume level and entertainment options.

Gulfstream G650 The Gulfstream G650 and G650ER take business aviation to new heights. Powered by two Rolls-Royce BR725 engines, the aircraft offer the longest range, fastest speed, largest cabin and the most advanced flight deck in the Gulfstream fleet. So groundbreaking is the design, it was awarded the Robert J Collier Trophy this year. The G650 family has continued to impress the industry on account of the stunning design and engineering superiority. In addition to Gulfstream’s definitive mechanical excellence, the design aspect of this project stands out for its quality and style. Simple, sleek lines create a classically imposing external impression. As is typical of the Gulfstream standard, the G650 and G650ER display timeless elegance and contemporary chic. The interior design implements the best in aviation architecture. A highly attractive and customisable design allows for a range of configurations that can accommodate functions including business, entertainment and social engagements. The internal features include a convection oven, ice drawers and crystal dining options. Soft, inviting leather recliners complement the jet’s chic and comfortable ambience, and owners will surely be seduced by the generously sized private stateroom. One of the jet’s most definitive interior aspects, aside from the noticeably wider cabin, is the sixteen Gulfstream panoramic windows which allow abundant sunlight into the cabin, even in the galley. Every window has been repositioned higher on the fuselage to provide a maximized and memorising view of the voyage’s vistas. Exceptional in every sense, the Gulfstream G650 family delivers on all levels with unprecedented results.

In the aviation industry, Bombardier enjoy an enviable position which commands respect and generates genuine anticipation for their new additions. To date, their portfolio showcases some of the most prestigious and premier aircraft and they have only enhanced this pedigree with the launch of the Challenger 650. Inspired by Bombardier Business Aircraft, this new cabin design creates a spacious interior feel through ergonomic and intuitive features. These features include the well-integrated side-ledge touch screens, the side-deployable tables that optimizes space and offers proper placement of first-hand passenger touch-points (including cup-holder and cabin system interface).

“ With its redefinition of the ultimate in-flight experience, industry-best overall value, proven reliability and efficiency, and new performance capabilities, the Challenger 650 aircraft is another example of Bombardier’s industry leadership. ”

The combination of these modern features provide the utmost in cabin ergonomics and intuitiveness, while ensuring that no functionality is compromised. Seats also have been completely redesigned offering full-width integrated headrest. Taking advantage of the large cabin cross-section, they provide a roomy 22” in-seat cushion. An intuitive single latch system allows the passenger to effortlessly track in all direction and swivel 360º each single seat. The style has been meticulously developed to offer a contemporary yet timeless look. Passenger Service Units hosting the air gaspers, table and reading lights were integrated in the design philosophy and are an evolution of the “pod” concept introduced in the Challenger 350 and Learjet 70/75. Breaking the linear tunnel-feel of conventional cabin interior design, the grouping of facing passenger seats provides a spacious cabin environment and a roomy bright feel. To complement this novel design, luxurious fabrics and materials were carefully selected to create an interior which enhances the geometry and ergonomics of the whole environment. Cabin elements give a striking look and also enhance the overall cabin feel and sense of usefulness, attention to ergonomics provide the experience and comfort of a superior product while the aesthetics features highlight the richness and the sturdiness of the interior. proven reliability and efficiency, and new performance capabilities, the Challenger 650 aircraft is another example of Bombardier’s industry leadership. A better standard equipped aircraft than any other business jet in its class provides customers with everything they need and more. As is the Bombardier standard, it is not just the interior which impresses. Every aspect of this magnificent craft features the finest engineering and technological components. The Challenger 650 aircraft’s enhanced GE engines offer greater thrust, shorter takeoff distance, extra payload capacity and greater range capabilities out of challenging airports. With a true 4,000 nm (7,408 km) range capability, the Challenger 650 jet can facilitate trips from London to New York, Dubai to London and Sao Paulo to Miami without stopping. This fact, combined with the enhanced comfort and technology on board, naturally makes the Challenger 650 an attractive prospect for any potential owner. Furthermore, the jet is also enhanced by the inclusion of the bespoke Bombardier Vison Flight Deck and an unrivalled Flight Management System which ensures an enjoyable, easy journey with uncompromised control and cutting-edge configuration. Bombardier’s exclusive flight deck gifts pilots high-end technology and superior design aesthetics for new levels of control and comfort, in addition to increasing situational awareness and reducing their workload. Overall the Challenger 650 is a further example of Bombardier’s unmatched calibre in their ability to produce craft of real quality and style. Sophisticated, elegant and authentically brilliant; the Challenger 650 is a stunning edition to the firm’s substantive fleet. It remains to be seen what other feats Bombardier can achieve but for now at least the Challenger 650 epitomises the extensive skill, knowledge and intelligent design this company has come to represent in the aviation industry and beyond. As her name suggests this aircraft challenges competitors to better themselves but there is no challenge for passengers seeking to explore the world in luxury and with every need catered to in mid-air. A contemporary classic.

Virgin Atlantic are renowned for their onboard bar and this project was Viewport’s second collaboration with the world-class airline. Created by the London-based Viewport Studio, this complete design of the Upper Class Cabin and Bar for Virgin Atlantic Airways creates a unique and dynamic experience for passengers. Specialising in product design and architecture, Viewport’s work on the Upper Class Cabin & Bar included monuments, lighting scheme and new Premium Economy feature wall. The theme for the project was “emancipation of flight” – to respond to the exciting innovations of the Boeing 787 and to create a new experience for the passenger. Viewport Studio have angled the bar so that it faces the passenger on boarding, which creates an entirely new dynamic for the crew interaction. The cantilevered bar and the sharp cutaway on the underside creates a distinctly architectural quality, which also provides emphasis on the lightness and volume of the aircraft entrance. The angled ceiling panels create a subtle refraction of

light into the space. As a special feature onboard this aircraft, Viewport Studio developed a bespoke lighting system with over 400 individually programmable segments. Viewport wanted to create a neutral canvas in terms of colour so that the lighting design possible in this new aircraft could be used to full effect. In this way, the time of day or night becomes more obvious in the space, and that a cabin refresh programme would be an easier option. From the innovative twin shot moulded bar seats to perches in the galley wall, each surface element has a very tactile and unrivalled quality. The design expertly exposes the concept that travel is entirely concerned with the destination. By utilising their inspiration and experience of the hospitality industry, Viewport were able to bring the ambience of luxury and indulgence typically associated with the world’s finest hotels, to the traveller from the moment their journey begins. The sleek, contemporary, chic and cool ambience of the interior design is firmly in line with Virgin’s fun and stylish brand identity. Another intelligent and effective partnership between these two companies, the Virgin Upper Class Cabin & Bar is an especially impressive project. A fantastic addition to the International Yacht and Aviation Awards’ 2015 shortlist, the industry awaits with eager anticipation to see the sure to be stunning projects this partnership produces in years to come.

Introducing the new Mural Yachts 46m steel/ aluminium designed motoryacht, Meteor. She has been designed to fit just under the 500GT with large open deck spaces, voluminous interiors and world cruising capabilities.

“ The company’s philosophy is to design, engineer and build custom yachts of unparalleled quality which meet and surpass clients’ expectations. ”

This motor-yacht concept provides four luxurious decks of pure comfort. The design boasts expansive open spaces, which were of paramount importance. Large windows have been used throughout to provide plenty of light and give an airy, open feel throughout the interiors. The crucial sense of expanse has been mirrored on the outside where plenty of open deck space is provided on the exterior decks. The sun deck provides a wet-bar, Jacuzzi, bathing platform and three distinct seating areas. The back upper deck provides an alternative area for sun bathing on sun loungers and an additional area for outdoor dining. Further on the upper deck seating is provided in front of the wheelhouse to enjoy the time spent cruising. However the best views are available on the crow’s nest. Forward of the upper deck seating, the foredeck can be accessed. This is a large, open, uncluttered deck which could be used for multiple purposes. Low bulwarks make this deck feel even more spacious. The aft main deck allows for a more sheltered dining setting if necessary. From here the large swim platform can be reached, which is equipped with an Opacmare transformer system for easy access to the sea. The yacht exterior has very contemporary clean lines. A constant connection to the sea, often something large yachts are not able to provide, is achieved throughout by the large windows, low bulwarks and open deck spaces. Imagined for family use with the occasional charter in mind, she has been designed to RINA charter class and LY3 regulations. This project has been shortlisted in the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2016 for Concept Yacht over 40m. Mural Yachts was established in 2005 at the

heart of Turkey’s boat building industry in Tuzla, Istanbul. The company’s philosophy is to design, engineer and build custom yachts of unparalleled quality which meet and surpass clients’ expectations. Their projects aim to achieve a unique balance of form and function and the highest levels of performance, sea-keeping, manoeuvrability, stability and comfort. Lead by Cetin Yuceulug and his sons Murat and Ali, Mural Yachts was conceived from a love of the sea that began soon after in 1950 during a voyage from Istanbul to New York on board the Turkish Maritime Lines vessel Tarsus. Born in Istanbul an inherent love of the sea was not difficult with the presence of the Bosphorus. Mural Yachts excels at naval architecture and design. Exterior design and naval architecture work is done at a conceptual stage to a full detailed design. The discipline incorporates the exterior design and styling, 3D modelling, hull form design and development, weight calculation, resistance and propulsion analyses, stability and hydrostatics, model scale tests and CFD in conjunction with research centres, to commissioning trials. Mural Yachts has been designing and building yachts of the highest quality since 2005. At the heart of all their designs is a true dedication to merge beauty, functionality and comfort. They utilise reliable and tested systems to ensure that all the designs perform to the full expectations of the clients and make them a joy to sail. Mural Yachts have also celebrated the new Mural Yachts 37m aluminium designed motoryacht. Designed with hybrid propulsion she can cruise either running on generators or solely on battery banks. Large open deck spaces and large windows are a key feature of her design. The upper deck is a dedicated owner’s deck with almost 360 degree views and an opening skylight above the master bed. This project has been shortlisted in the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2016 for Concept Yacht under 40m.

The sophisticated shape of the edge sheer line, underlined by the wide and full length hull windows emphasises its power and elegance of the yacht. These glazed superstructures offer spectacular views of the sea and surroundings. The interiors consist of common day areas floorings in Oak (durmast) with Wengé wide long striped parquets. The main deck outside the lounge and dining area is located aft of the main lounge; in the bow area a wide seawater pool has extendable terraces with foldable ladders to the sea and the second tender garage. The lower deck has an aft sea level foldable terrace for beaching and tenders boarding. The connected beach lounge accommodates a bar, gymnasium and the main tender garage. The owner’s private apartment is on the fore part of the main deck whilst guests are hosted in the lower deck, in four en-suite cabins with queen size berths convertible to twins. Crew accommodations include a small lounge plus four cabins for 7 plus Captain. Interior public areas include a wide stern saloon with bar, separate and elevated pilot lounge overcomes the cinema/entertainment lounge and the dining room.
