PERFORMANCE

AT SPEEDPLAY – WE ONLY MAKE PEDALS

We think and act with one goal in mind – make the world’s best pedal systems. By embracing a nontraditional approach to product development, we keep an eye on the future by giving every idea a chance. In fact, some of the biggest breakthroughs in pedal design have come from our drawing boards. The end result – an exceptional line of pedals reflective of the shared passion cyclists have for the sport. We obsess over every detail, every individual part, and every bit of rider feedback. And through our partnership with the sport’s top professional teams, that feedback comes from the most demanding riders in the world, after thousands of miles, under the harshest conditions. While you may never win the Tour de France, the Giro d’Italia, the Olympics, the World Road and Time Trial Championships, Paris-Roubaix, or the Hawaii Ironman World Championship, riders using Speedplay pedals have. And though we can’t hide the satisfaction of winning the world’s biggest races, our ultimate challenge is to satisfy the daily demands of riders just like you.

WHAT SETS SPEEDPLAY PEDALS APART.

Dual-sided pedals: In the real world of stop-and-go riding, Speedplay’s dualsided pedals mean faster, easier entry. There’s no fumbling, no looking – just step down and go. Combined with our self-locating cleat, it’s one easy, natural motion. Lighter weight: By putting the mechanism in the cleat instead of the pedal, we’ve eliminated the redundant mechanisms found in other dual-sided pedals, and that means less weight. Knee-friendly float: Unlike pedals that torque your knees with self-centering spring tension, the float in Speedplay pedals allows your knees and ankles to follow their natural paths throughout the pedal stroke. Secure engagement: By isolating spring tension from locking security, getting in and out of Speedplay pedals is easy, but unintended release is virtually impossible. More cornering clearance: The slim, aerodynamic profile of Speedplay Zero, Light Action, and X Series pedals allows you to power through corners while others coast. Easier servicing: Every Speedplay pedal has a convenient grease port that makes periodic maintenance a snap. Fits more shoes: Zero, X Series, and Light Action cleats are compatible with all 3- and 4-hole mounts, while Frog cleats fit any SPD-compatible shoe, road or off-road.

During our recent wind tunnel test, the speed gained using Speedplay pedals was equivalent to switching from a standard front wheel to a deep-profile, aerodynamic front wheel.

NANOGRAM

The Nanogram Zero has the same performance features as Speedplay Zero pedals, but we pushed the envelope of pedal technology by using the most exotic materials and the most advanced manufacturing processes. As a result, Nanogram pedals are astonishingly lightweight, only 65 grams each, making them 20% lighter than the Zero Titanium. And the Nanogram cleats are lighter too – only 88 grams per pair when using the cleats on 3-hole shoes, and 56 grams per pair when using the cleats on 4-hole shoes. The Nanogram’s race-proven, lightweight-by-design Zero technology does not compromise quality, performance or safety in the quest for saving weight. Exotic materials – aluminum, carbon, titanium and ceramic bearings – come together in the Nanogram Zero. Each pedal weighs a mere 65 grams (130g pair). Made in USA, and hand assembled at Speedplay in San Diego, California.

www.speedplay.com

We use the same exacting standards in Nanograms that we use in all Speedplay pedal systems, including all metal-to-metal locking edges. With the Nanogram Zero Pedal System, you’ll get a substantial weight reduction for an advantage on race day that could be the deciding factor when seconds count. Franco Pellizotti, of Team Liquigas, raced Speedplay Nanograms to claim victory in the King of the Mountains classification at the 2009 Tour de France.

ZERO

The performance features of the Speedplay Zero Pedal System read like a pro racer’s wish list. No other pedal comes close to offering the superior adjustability or cutting-edge specifications of the Zero. Compare the key features of Zeros to any other brand, and you’ll find that other pedal systems are no match. By thinking “outside the box”, we created and patented the most technically advanced clipless pedal system available. Only Zeros offer fore-aft, side-to-side, and rotational foot positions that can be adjusted independently. Unlike the inexact set-up of traditional, one-piece cleats, each of the three adjustments of Zero cleats can be set or changed without affecting the position of the other adjustments. This feature also eliminates guesswork and misalignment when replacing cleats, a concern of all cyclists from consumers to top professionals. www.speedplay.com

LIGHT ACTION

The new Speedplay Light Action Pedal System combines the best features of Speedplay’s X and Zero pedals to come up with the world’s most user-friendly clipless pedal system. We named it Light Action for its unique low-force, highsecurity latch mechanism. It’s simpler, easier, and faster to engage than any other pedal system. Light Action pedals combine the renowned ease of entry and release and smooth, non-centering, free float of Speedplay’s X Pedal System with the robust spring design and enhanced durability of Speedplay’s Zero Pedal System. Whether you’re a serious enthusiast or first-time clipless user, Light Action pedals provide the same cuttingedge performance features that have made Speedplay pedals the choice of the world’s most discriminating riders. www.speedplay.com

X SERIES

The Speedplay X Series’ innovative, dual-sided design and unrestricted float changed the shape of clipless pedals and continues to prove that userfriendliness, comfort, and improved performance are all attainable in a simple, lightweight package. The unique shape of X pedals provides knee-saving lateral rotation, without the self-centering action inherent in most pedals – your knees don’t have to work against spring tension. For stop-and-go riding, Speedplay’s dual-sided pedals mean there’s no fumbling or need to look down. With our self-locating cleat, it’s one easy, natural motion.

THE FROG

Not just a great off-road pedal system, Speedplay Frog pedals are ideal for road riders who prefer a recessed, walkable cleat. Like their amphibious namesake, Frog pedals are equally at home in dry or muddy terrain. Their unique cleats are virtually immune to clogging with mud or dirt because debris is pushed out the back whenever you engage the pedal, putting an end to those infuriating falls caused by gunked-up pedals that won’t release. You get out when you want to and never when you don’t. Whether you ride a mountain bike, road bike, tandem, or ’cross bike, the Speedplay Frog can do it all. By making retention security independent of the release tension, Frog pedals are always easy to enter and exit but will not release unintentionally.

FROG TITANIUM: An extremely lightweight, walkable cleat system made even lighter at 206 grams per pair by using spindles produced in California from U.S. 6/4 grade titanium.

FROG STAINLESS: High-strength, rustproof, stainless-steel spindles to withstand hard use. Only 250 grams per pair.

FROG CHROME-MOLY: The most economical Frog includes all the same great performance features.

GEAR NANOGRAM WATER BOTTLE CAGE: Made of unidirectional carbon fiber, the simple, elegant design positions the water bottle stop at the top of the cage rather than near the mount where it is most vulnerable. This feature, combined with the natural resiliency of carbon allows us to make a stronger, lighter cage to better absorb the constant impacts from rough roads and from riders banging the water bottle top closed. Includes lightweight, aluminum fasteners and a BPA-Free logo bottle.

GREASE GUN: Our professional-quality grease gun allows you to lubricate your Speedplay pedals quickly and cleanly without disassembly. Includes premium-grade, Speedplay-approved synthetic bearing grease that is non-staining and non-toxic. Grease outlasts conventional grease and is approved for use with Speedplay Nanogram ceramic bearings.
