“The incentive to look for ecologically acceptable alternatives would go up if the manufacture of plastic bags is effectively prohibited and the ban on their use effectively policed.
Pressure has mounted over the last decade to reduce the use of disposable plastics in the grocery industries; with most going to landfill, a small but damaging percentage is escaping into the environment. Significant developments have emerged such as biodegradable plastics, but this still is not dealing with the aim of reduction. There is a need to relook at the shopping process to achieve this behaviour change.
After significant research the concept of the
TOTE shopping trolley was proposed as a first step towards doing something about the problem from a „total processâ€&#x; design perspective.
The TOTE as a concept challenges the current system. The
TOTE is proposed as a personal use trolley / cart & can take a number of forms in assisting the passage of produce from store to household.
Bikes working harder, earning their keep 2 February 2010. With many more people now riding while new bikes sales remain flat, there can only be one conclusion:
bikes are working harder than ever. Bike sales hit a peak of 1,427,738 in 2007. Last year, according to Customs bike importation figures released by the Cycling Promotion Fund, they were 1,154,077. Although sales are down from the peak this was still the tenth year in a row that bike sales outstripped car sales.
