Welcome to autumn and a bumper range of fantastic City events. This season offers an exciting new gallery opening, a host of special events and some blockbuster exhibitions – as the sun starts to fade and the nights draw in, head out the house and experience all the City has to offer.
Don’t miss the brand-new City of London Heritage Gallery (p 8) – a showcase of precious documents and treasures from the archives of the City of London Corporation starting with the display of Magna Carta. What’s more, the Guildhall Art Gallery re-opens (p 8) with a complete re-hang, bringing fresh artworks from the permanent collections, and October sees the return of the Gallery’s popular 120 Years of Tower Bridge exhibition.

Sculpture in the City The popular public art exhibition returns this summer with a selection of 14 contemporary art pieces in and around the Square Mile. Set amongst London’s iconic architectural landmarks, such as the Gherkin and the Lloyd’s Building, this open-air exhibition transforms an area known for insurance and finance into an art space. This year’s exhibition includes works from the internationally renowned artists Cerith Wyn Evans, Lynn Chadwick, Ben Long, Julian Wild, Nigel Hall, Paul Hosking, Peter Randall-Page, Antony Gormley, Jim Lambie and Richard Wentworth. For the first time, the beautiful Leadenhall Market will feature as

a venue and house two works: Cerith Wyn Evans’ neon work ‘Time here becomes Space, Space here becomes Time’ will be suspended from the 1881 ornate Victorian roof structure; and Richard Wentworth’s installation ‘False Ceiling’, which consists of hundreds of books, will be suspended just above head height. In the four years since it started, Sculpture in the City has placed more than 20 iconic pieces on the City streets and even more additions are planned throughout the year. Heritage Gallery
The Gallery reopens its doors to showcase a complete re-hang of its permanent collections. Check out rarely-exhibited paintings alongside old favourites with upgraded lighting, new wall coverings and improved signage. The new-look Victorian collection will feature gems of the 19th century, focusing on beauty, spirituality, scenes of modern life, and Victorian visions of the past. FREE
Open to the public from 12 September, the brand-new City of London Heritage Gallery will showcase a rotating display of precious resources from the archives of the City of London Corporation, steward of an impressive range of London’s history. On display will be the finest surviving 13th century edition of Magna Carta, offering a rare chance to see a true national treasure. Alongside it will sit an exhibition of historic documents from the First World War and, from 2015, other precious artefacts will include the 1215 King John Charter, Shakespeare’s house deed and more.
