THE LARGEST COLLECTION IN THE WORLD DEVOTED TO THE HISTORY OF A SINGLE CITY Guildhall Library is a public reference library with 200,000 titles dating from the 13th to the 21st centuries. An incredible resource of books, pamphlets, periodicals, trade directories, poll books, manuscripts and archives, it tells the remarkable story of more than 2,000 years of life in the capital. Discover London’s maritime trade and business history, guilds and livery companies, its people and their families, the great and good, the rich and the poor, saints and criminals, apprentices and Lord Mayors.

The Library of London History

The library holds internationally renowned collections of books on family and local history, wine and food, Samuel Pepys, John Wilkes and Thomas More, plus the libraries of the Clockmakers’, Gardeners’ and Fletchers’ Companies, the Antiquarian Horological Society, Gresham College and the Charles Lamb Society. Manuscript collections include the archives of 80 City livery companies, the Lloyd’s Marine Collection and the archives of the London Stock Exchange. Guildhall Library also runs an active and engaging programme of events and exhibitions on all aspects of London history.
