n w i pp r o f i l e Newcastle Wedding Industry Professionals [NWIP] is the longest established bridal network group in Newcastle, also covering weddings in the Maitland, Hunter Valley, Port Stephens, and Central Coast area. The Newcastle Wedding Industry Professionals is a non-profit NSW registered co-operative organisation, owned by, and run by its members. Membership is comprised of wellrecognized quality suppliers of a full range of wedding services. NWIP has the highest substantiated visitor and bride registration rate for all wedding expos. In 2007, the organisation provided a prize of a $10,000 wedding package at one expo and prizes to a total of $7,000 at another. NWIP support charities to a great extent – HCRF (Hunter Children’s Research Fund) $18,000 over 10 years and HMRI (Hunter Medical Research Fund) $6,000 since 2007. www.weddingprofessionals.com.au

Things may go wrong leading up to and on the day of your wedding. It’s how you handle these problems as to whether they’ll be remembered in ten years. The wedding day belongs to you and your fiancé. Listen to the advice of family and friends but the final decision should lie with you and your fiancé. Enjoy planning your wedding - the preparations are as much a rite of passage as the wedding itself. Don’t think of it as a chore. Take a break before your wedding. This could be with your fiancé or with friends for a hen’s weekend. It will get your mind off thing and let you relax so you can enjoy the lead up to your wedding. Pamper your mum and maids on the day before your wedding with an afternoon at a health spa. If you work long hours and don’t have a lot of time to plan your wedding, you may consider hiring a wedding co-ordinator. Alternatively, delegate tasks to your families and the Bridal party. Make the most of your first moment together as husband and wife. This will be in the car from the church to the reception – remember it’s the only time you’ll have alone until after your day is over. Take time during the reception to stop and take it all in. You don’t want to forget all the moments by rushing through your special day. Don’t forget mints – you’ll be talking to and kissing a lot of people.

finding your
perfectgown There is a wide variety of Bridal Gowns available to Brides. Brides no longer need to drive to Sydney to find the perfect gown - the problem is deciding between offthe-rack or made-to-measure. Off-the-rack gowns are ready to purchase or order in the required style and size. Multiple copies of these gowns are made on a production line and large quantities of gowns mean lower costs on bulk fabrics and labour. Designer boutiques have a range of gowns, all of which are different in colour, style, and size. A designer can either re-make sample gowns (this is called made-tomeasure), or design an original gown. Made-to-measure gown prices start as low as $1000. Gowns that are an original design will cost more due to the time spent on the design, starting at $2000.
The best advice for any Bride, is to set a budget for the gown, and visit boutiques to see what is available. Try on as many gowns as possible to see what suits and what is desired. Have a good look at the quality of the gowns. If deciding to have a made to measure gown, check with the designer to ensure the quality. Most importantly, be happy with the gown you select and the process of finding it. The bridal gown is worn all day and needs to be comfortable and make you feel special on your day.
Brides should expect to pay anywhere from $500 to $3000 for gowns off-the-rack.
Quality gowns should consist of a silk or synthetic outer layer, quality linings and between those layers, there should be interlinings to stabilise the gown. Depending upon the style of the gown, there will also be boning. Boning is very important in gowns that are strapless or fitted and in bodices. Whether buying off-the-rack or made-to-measure, the cheaper the gown the less structure the gown will have. Purchasing a gown off-the rack limits the styles and sizes available. Sizing is standard and gowns may require alterations for correct fit, which is an extra cost. For a gown that is individual and different, consult a designer to have a gown designed. Having a gown made will mean it will fit your exact body shape and will need no alterations, they can be made in any colour or fabric.

inviteme! Some tips for organising your wedding invitations... • Invitations with embellishments (studs, ribbons etc) should be hand franked so they are not crushed. (Franking is the red stamp over your postage stamp. It is normally done by machine that passes through rollers) Hand franking is done by request at Australia Post and does not incur a fee.
• The design of your invitation should reflect the formality and style of your wedding. They offer the important information of who, what, when, and where. They are your first point of contact with your guest and therefore they set expectations and the mood for your special day. • Choose your invitations at least four months before your wedding. Invitations could take up to four weeks to print and assemble and then they may need to be hand addressed which can take some time. The invitation should be received six to eight weeks prior to the wedding.
• Envelopes should be addressed in the same manner and with the same pen as the invitation is written. • Invitations that are not post office
• RSVP dates should be 2-3 weeks prior to the wedding to allow you to confirm numbers and organise table plans.

On your wedding day, everything will be perfect – every detail that you’ve spent months planning will come together to create your dream day. There are several points to consider when booking a photographer:
1. Choose on style

2. Connection with photographer
Ensure that both you and your partner are happy with the photographer that will be photographing your wedding. If you don’t ‘connect’ on a personal level, it will come across in your photographs. Meet with the actual photographer who will be photographing your wedding, and see an album from a wedding they have photographed.
3. Presentation
Nothing is worse than beautiful photographs presented poorly. There’s a wide range of photographic presentations available, from obtaining hi-res images on DVD or film negatives, to creatively designed albums. When interviewing photographers, make sure you see a complete album. It will ensure you are seeing a complete day, and not just the best photographs from select weddings. This will give you confidence that your photographer is able to photograph both the fast moving ceremony and reception, as well as the more laid-back location shoots.
4. Coverage
Decide how much of your day you want covered. Are photographs of both the bride and groom getting ready important? Would you like to cover your entire reception so that you can capture fun moments of your guests enjoying themselves, or would you prefer a ‘mock’ first dance and cake cut?

Ask lots of questions. You need to know what is and is not included in the package you are looking at. Ask for testimonials, photos and referrals from past clients. Make sure the work you look at is the work of the person who will do your Wedding. Read all Contracts carefully! Make sure everything is in writing. Always seek 2 to 3 quotes in writing, to compare. Most importantly, make sure you feel comfortable with them and confident that they know what you want.

“Notice of Marriage” must be lodged at least 1 Month and 1 day prior to the Wedding Date with the Clergyman/ Celebrant performing the marriage. Allocate an MC who is confident and will control the flow of speeches. Also allocate time limits to your speeches as it keeps your night on track time wise. Seek referrals from family & friends who may have used a photographer for their Wedding. Make sure they are experienced and specialised in Weddings. Look at their work and check that it is their work you are looking at. Only book the photographer whose work you liked. Make sure you feel comfortable with the actual photographer; you will be spending a lot of time with them! When choosing your dress, make sure you take at least one person who will give you an honest opinion. Most Bridal houses will make sure that the dress does look good on you, but they are also out for a sale. Make sure you feel comfortable in the dress; you are in it for a while and will need to move around in it fairly easily. If you are paying someone to transport you around, check that they are a Licensed Limousine vehicle and are fully insured. Just in case! When choosing flowers, remember that some flowers are seasonal and some don’t do well in certain climates. Check with your florist. The price of a Wedding Cake is dependant upon the quality of the actual cake, and time taken to decorate the cake. Ask for a taste. Remember to make your stationery blend in with the overall style/theme of the Wedding. Generally you send your invitations 2 months prior to the Wedding Date. RSVP’s should be returned at least 1 month prior to your Wedding Day. Decorations can tie the whole style or theme of the Wedding together, but don’t over do it. Ask the Venue for the decorator who does the best work in that particular venue. Consider a Jewellery designer, who will design something unique for you and it can be less expensive than a Jewellery shop. Hair and Make Up is best done by Professionals, for the sake of the photos. A different style of make up is used when photos are to be taken. Have a trial a few weeks before, as a test. Have a detailed plan of what has to be done in the week prior to the Wedding Date. Include who will do it, and when it should be done. Double-check all suppliers and all details. “If it all looks too

can design and organise a Wedding that reflects your needs and personality.
