T

he microbrewery phenomenon is alive and thriving in Arkansas! Across the country in the last 10 years, something strange and extraordinary has happened. A 200-year-old industry has exploded with new brewery establishments and more than doubled its workforce. What is equally amazing is that this has happened during a time when U.S. beer consumption has actually declined. The growth of microbreweries and craft beers is a direct outcome of changes in consumer taste, with people looking for fuller flavor and greater variety. Brew Fests are popping up across the country, reflecting the growing popularity of craft beers. Each year, the Ouachita Region hosts the Hot Springs Bath Haus Beer Festival and the Natural State Beer & Wine Festival. Central Arkansas also hosts a Great Arkansas Beer Festival, Food & Foam Fest. Today, there are more than 30 breweries across Arkansas,

Don't miss the nearby Arkansas Alligator Farm and Petting Zoo (AlligatorFarmZoo. com), a one-of-a-kind attraction that has been in Hot Springs for more than 100 years. Treat yourself to a cold brew or two at one of the great microbreweries located near this trail including the Superior Bathhouse Brewery (Superior-

with at least one in each major city in the state. Many of their names reflect their Arkansan heritage. For example, Blue Canoe is named for the founders’ love of canoeing the Buffalo River, and Diamond Bear reflects the first two Arkansas state nicknames. Hot Springs’ Superior Bathhouse Brewery turned the long-vacant Superior Bathhouse into a brewery, tasting room, restaurant, and event venue. This microbrewery is noted for not only being the first brewery in a National Park, but also the world’s first to use the thermal spring water as a main ingredient. For local brews, head to SQZBX Brewery and Pizza Joint, Grateful Head Pizza Oven and Beer Garden, Bubba Brew’s, or Superior Bathhouse Brewery in Hot Springs! And Little Rock boasts Rebel Kettle Brewery and Damgoode Pies Brewhouse in the River Market. With variety like these establishments, it's safe to say the craft beer trend is alive and well in Arkansas.

Ouch! My Back Hurts! Visit Dr. Dailey for Relief

C

hiropractic care is more than just making the pain disappear. "It is about learning, understanding, and taking care of your body to improve your quality of life,” notes Dr. Don Dailey, who has been meeting the chiropractic needs of Hot Springs Village residents for more than 13 years. A native Arkansan, Dr. Dailey attended Southern Arkansas University and graduated from Palmer Chiropractic College in 2005. Dr. Dailey made the decision to practice in Hot Springs Village because he liked the region. His specialty is decompression of the spine to help bulging discs, herniated discs, and neuropathy. Dr. Dai-

ley says working with Village seniors is both rewarding and challenging. The challenges come from witnessing unique conditions. The rewards come from caring for seniors who are taking better care of themselves and being more active than seniors of years ago. Since back pain is often about more than the back, Dr. Dailey has developed a strategy for his patients. He seeks to educate patients about chiropractic care and other natural solutions to common health problems, motivating them to take a more active and responsible role in restoring and maintaining their health. Flavor Perfection Bar-B-Qed

Taste down home Bar-B-Q goodness in Hot Springs!

M

ickeys Bar-B-Q is perhaps one of the best examples of a family restaurant we have seen. Founded by Mickey and Patricia Bearden over 28 years ago, Mickey's Bar-B-Q slow smokes all their meats with hickory wood for an amazing flavor. If you are looking for serious comfort food, you will want to consider Mickeys as your Bar-B-Q destination! MickeysBBQSauce.com Owner Scott McClard believes in remaining true to his family heritage. McClards’ Bar-B-Q strives to "use the best ingredients you can get, buy the best quality cuts you can get, and be sure you don't skimp on portions." They also make their side dishes on

the premises every day, using the recipes from their great-grandfather. "You can't buy this stuff off of a truck. You can't take beans out of a can and make it taste like my great-grandfather's recipe." McClards.com Famous Memphis-style barbecue rub is the cornerstone of the family business-owned and operated Smokin’ in Style. Joe and his great staff serve up barbecue and more. Try the nachos, salads, fresh hand-pattied hamburgers, and even a “smokin’ baked potato” that Joe claims may end up weighing a whopping 4-5 pounds when loaded! Even catfish is done with the Smokin’ in Style rub. Save room for great, great grand-

ma's banana pudding that is handmade fresh every day. Joe describes the restaurant this way: “Delicious food, great staff and great customers!” SmokinNStyle.com Satisfy your craving for delicious barbecue at Stubby’s Bar-B-Q Restaurant in Hot Springs. Since 1952, this local favorite has been serving up slow cooked meats such as ribs, beef, pork, and chicken, slathered in original Stubby’s sauce. Owner Chris Dunkel is dedicated to great customer service. Stubby’s is a destination for Hot Springs visitors and hometown folks alike. The restaurant has also been recognized by several food critics and has even been featured on the Travel Channel. What makes Stubby’s such a crowd pleaser? Dunkel says it is the restaurant’s signature blending of regional favorites like Tennessee pork butts and Texas beef brisket doused with their sweet, mild Kansas City style sauce. “We are one of the few places who makes our own sauce,” says Dunkel. Stop by Stubby's soon for unique, flavorful barbecue. StubbysBBQ.com

Pour Yourself a Glass of Healthy Community at Central Nutrition

A

t first glance, you might be tempted to think Central Nutrition is just about the beverages. And while it is true, you’ll find delicious, healthy teas and shakes there, the place offers something else … a community. “When you walk through the door at Central Nutrition, and you buy a shake or tea, you are automatically part of a health club,” says Shawn Cooper, co-owner. The beverages are both tasty and healthy. Who wouldn’t want a shake that tastes like a candy bar but is also good for you? Cooper, and co-owner, Kelsey Moss, suggest trying the two most popular shake flavors, the chocolate chip pancake shake and the salted caramel shake. All shakes are fueled with Herbal Life protein. Central Nutrition also serves healthy teas, which contain B vitamins and Ginseng, and get this… some actually burn calories… so you’ll end up with a calorie deficit. Whoa! Pour me a glass, right? The staff works hard to create an environment that builds community. “We want our customers to feel healthy in all aspects, not only physical but also mental and spiritual,”

raising event for cancer research in the Village,” said Melanie Pederson, Cancer Walk chairperson. “The Walk brings together survivors, family members of those who have lost loved ones, and the community. We couldn’t do this without our planning team who spends countless hours working to ensure a smooth and successful Walk.” "RE/MAX of Hot Springs Village has been a part of the Village Walk for Cancer Research for over 12 years," says Clara Nicolosi, RE/MAX of Hot Springs Village owner. RE/MAX will be serving house-made smoked brats and hot dogs from Clampit's Country Kitchen and Meat Market at the event. "What a privilege it is to be a part of an organization that has raised over a million dollars for cancer research. All of the proceeds will be used right here in Arkansas, at the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at UAMS. Cancer touches the lives of everyone we know. Working together we are one step closer to a cure." Both Joey and Lynn Clampit, who own Clampit's, are cancer survivors. "This a cause that is near and dear to our hearts," said Joey Clampit. "Cancer research is something we want to take a part in, and we look forward to being a part of the event this year. Regional Schools Provide Quality Educational Options

H

ot Springs Village is a great place to raise a family. There are two schools nearby offering quality education programs for children Prek-12th grade. Fountain Lake School District: Supporting "Every Student Every Day For Success" is the goal of the Fountain Lake School District according to the school’s website, FLCobras.net. The school, which is home to the Fountain Lake Cobras, aspires to inspire, motivate, and prepare students to be confident, productive, knowledgeable, goal-oriented citizens. Fountain Lake includes students from both Garland and Saline counties and provides the latest technology. The school's focus is to build quality relationships with all students, to provide a level of support to assist students in achieving their goals academically, and to prepare them for employment. The district is committed to do whatever it takes to support their students. Jessieville School District: Home of the Jessieville Li-

ons, the school which opened in 1937, has years of academic excellence and a commitment to the future of the Jessieville and Hot Springs Village community. The high school offers the HUB program, a non-traditional educational route that provides flexible options for learning via a combination of online and face-to-face courses, according to Melissa G. Speers, Ed. S., Jessieville interim superintendent. These students also receive job skills training. The school is built on the foundation that all students are lifelong learners, striving to strengthen students' integrity, engagement, and success in a safe and orderly environment. "Jessieville School District has been home to multiple generations of families. It is a small school but it is still able to meet the needs of students to prepare them successfully for college and career," said Speers, noting the district "provides breakfast and lunch to every student at no cost to the parent or student."
