ant to meet a horse named Big John? Or how about hanging out with his friend, a cow named Sugar? They are waiting at Creek Mountain Petting Farm, where you can pet goats, turkeys, running ducks (if you can catch them), and more! There’s even a cute little blonde peafowl named Dannet. And you won’t have to search for Houdi, a dwarf Nigerian goat, or his buddy, Jade, a fainting goat, because they’ll most likely follow you wherever you go, according to farm owner, Margaret Weeter. “The goats follow us around like pets,” says Weeter, “eating
out of our hands and nudging us to be petted or when they want a treat.” Creek Mountain Petting Farm officially opens for business October 28. Located at 2659 HWY 298 in Jessieville, the farm will offer children and adults alike the chance to enjoy an unforgettable experience with some of nature’s most graceful creatures. Both Weeter and co-owner, Bea Nation, hope the farm will give area children a first-hand experience meeting with farm animals, something many haven’t had before. “They may have pets, such as cats and dogs,” says Weeter, “but we want to give them a

farm animal experience.” And they definitely want to provide a safe place for everyone. “Some people with special needs respond more easily and readily to animals, similar to therapy animals,” says Weeter. “We want to provide a place where they can interact [safely] with our animals.” Weeter and Nation plan to host field trips, cooperating with local schools and churches and also family outings. And they plan to work with the Jessieville School Agriculture program. In fact, they say several parents have already contacted them about having their children help out at the farm, for the experience of learning responsibility and interaction with other people, says Weeter. All funds raised will benefit the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at University of Arkansas Medical Sciences. All funds raised will stay in Arkansas. Opening ceremonies start at 7:30 a.m. rain or shine at the Balboa Pavilion at 476 Ponce de Leon Drive, in Hot Springs Village. “RE/MAX of Hot Springs Village is thrilled to be a part of the Village Walk for Cancer Research again this year,” said Clara Nicolosi, RE/MAX of Hot Springs Village owner and Cancer Walk committee member.
