interface
We chose to create a simplified interface in order to streamline the process of interacting with the device as much as possible. The user is presented with a timer face representing hours in which the task can be completed. The dial is turned to the correct hour and the top circle represents the count down as the device approaches zero.
The creation of the interface was done in a graphic way before being applied to the device in order to test the proportions of the elements on a flat surface. This will allow us to translate the interface to other media such as the electricity bill and online information about each device.
nudge 1 We identified the first nudge or touch point in our concept as the default in process of receiving the device. The user will receive a device when buying a new appliance or in the mail with the electricity bill. This means that they automatically part of the target group. In order for them to not be part, they have to opt out instead of the usual opt in process.

We went through a number of iterations before reaching our final interface. These options were both visually and mechanically different. We tried to capture both a sense of environmetalism and technology by combining materials and creating an enticing interactive experience for the user.
nudge 2 The second nudge is for the customer to attach the device to the appliance. We resolved this by creating a device that is refined visually and adds value to a setting. The user is also “nudged to place the device on an appliance as it will be clear when they receive it that they are now part of an energy saving community.
visual design and community: placing the device on the appliance
nudge 3 Once the device is placed on the appliance, the behavior pattern of the user is the same as if the button was not present at all. The user gathers clothes or dishes as usual, places them in the appliance and chooses a time period in which they would like the task completed. The button will then activate when the cost of energy is sufficiently low, balancing the energy system and saving the user money. The original task is also completed in a convenient time period.
automatic behavior: using the device +$
nudge 4 The fourth nudge is designed to provide feedback and incentive to the user to continue interacting with their device. The energy bill they receive every few months will include a detailed feedback sheet showing how often their device contributed towards energy equilibrium as well as how much it is saving them.
feedback: receving the energy bill $+
nudge 5 The final nudge is the option to get more smart devices for your appliances, allowing your to save more and be a prime contributor to the energy equilibrium of the country. These details will be available in the energy bill as well as on the internet.
