South African born couture designer, Jacques LaGrange, studied fashion at The Academy of Clothing Technology, followed by working as a personal assistant to renowned couturier Errol Arendz, for six and a half years. Jacques became a finalist in the Young Designer of the Year awards in 1999 and went on to win the Most Elegant Couple competition at The J&B Met of that year, as well as winning the same award once again two years later in 2001. Jacques moved to Paris (France) to settle, but shortly thereafter returned to Cape Town when asked to help launch French design house, Lancel, in South Africa. He then decided to launch his own couture label locally and never looked back. 17 years after starting his own label, Jacques continues to have his fair share of local and international exposure, with television appearances on programmes such as Top Billing, Pasella, Expresso, Bravo and Fashion One to name but a few. Jacques has also been featured regularly in all major publications, including several cover exposures, with the likes of Glamour, ELLE, Cosmopolitan, My Wedding Day, Rooi Rose, LeKap, Independent News Papers, Sunday Times and The New Age Newspaper among the list. Ad campaigns he has been involved in include well-known brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Coty, Revlon and Dark & Lovely. Jacques was also requested to dress models in his couture creations for the only Cartier boutique in South Africa, Terry Pheto (lead actress in an Oscar winning feature film) for The Search: E Host South Africa and Zuri Hall (Emmy Winning TV Personality) for The Veuve Clicquot Masters Polo. Local and international celebrities, Miss Universe, Miss World and A-list clients have worn his creations from Royal Ascot in the United Kingdom to The Cannes Film Festival in the South of France.
Preferring to showcase his creations to a private client-base from all around the world, Jacques has previously also shown at Cape Town Fashion Week, South Africa Fashion Week and in 2012 was invited to showcase at Mozambique Fashion Week, as part of the Pan-African Designers, to a resounding success. Following this he was invited to showcase at CPM (Collection Premier Moscow) in 2015. Jacques’ contribution to the development of the South African Fashion Industry can be seen first-hand with his recent Mercedes-Benz South Africa Fashion Film collaboration. His couture label is associated with international luxury brands like Dom Perignon, Lamborghini and Cartier. Charity is also close to Jacques’ heart with Reach for Recovery (support group for people with breast cancer in rural areas), the Go Red Heart Foundation, Red Cross disaster relief, DWDE (workshop for disabled people) and Imibala (Sponsor a Child) a few of the charities that enjoy his support. It has been reported that Jacques has been able to accomplish more in a relatively short period than most designers do in a lifetime. He has even been named South Africa’s ‘King of Couture’, a title not to be taken lightly which most designers can only ever dream of. Influential media stated that Jacques LaGrange Couture is the only South African-based design house that really matters, with the attention to detail, impeccable style and quality of the workmanship. It is no surprise then that he only dresses a select few A-list clients from all around the world, from Dubai to Switzerland, Paris to Australia, London to America, all in a day’s work. From a 16-year old school kid interviewed on the magazine program Tekkies to the ‘King of Couture’, Jacques LaGrange has come a long way, but has only scratched the surface of what can still be expected from this talented one-of-akind couturier.

Richard & Mouse Poynton We would like to welcome you to Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse
Having been one of the originators of the Country House movement in the 1980’s, we travelled overseas after our Granny Mouse’s Country House days, working and absorbing the international “foodie” world. We came back enthused and decided to use the family farm to start what we think of as our dream hotel – an intimate gourmet getaway. Our family has been coming up to the farm since the 1940’s and we’ve always known this was something special with its breath-taking mountain views, crystal clear streams and ultimate peaceful solitude of the KwaZulu-Natal, Drakensberg mountains. We believe it is ideal for its intended purpose as a restful refuge and along with our professional yet understated service we hope this is most of all a gourmet experience to remember. 033 267 7243 071 687 7266
Nestled in the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg, we are a luxury, gourmet lodge dedicated to sumptuous food and rustic luxury
What You Can Expect from Our Gourmet Meals Dinner is a sumptuous 7 course affair with no effort or expense spared to give our guests a memorable dining experience. Richard talks you through every mouthful from pan to plate before you sit down to enjoy his creations, and he doesn’t mind telling you that Cleopatra’s food is all about the tastes, fun and passion that go into good country cooking! Don’t forget to stay for breakfast, though. The unusual and exciting 3 courses are the icing on the cake of your flavourful time with us. We so look forward to your stay with us at Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse. Fresh ingredients are essential, and being able to pick from the gardens minutes before serving is a real pleasure. For the most exotic tastes, Richard spends hours hunting down local and imported ingredients of the highest quality – flying in fresh salmon from Norway and procuring genuine Parma hams and cheeses from Italy.
Here are some of Richards Recipes for you to try at home

Thorne and Daughters Wines was started in 2012 by John and Tasha Seccombe to produce authentic wines in the beautiful Western Cape where we have made our home. It has been a long journey that has taken us around the world and brought us back here to where we first met. We are in love with the Cape, and we want to taste this air and this sunshine in our wines.
To produce our wines we’ve drawn on the great history of wine growing here in the Cape, putting together old vineyard parcels with new grape varieties, and making wines with old school simplicity and a modern ‘edge’. Our approach to wine making is simple, honest and gentle, and we are looking to make wines that tell a story, not wines that shout and bang a drum.
We spend a lot of time cooking and talking about wine, food, photography, building, and gardening. Our home and family are so important to us and they are constant sources of energy and inspiration that we take into the world. We are ridiculously passionate about what we do, and are so grateful to be able to make these wines and share our ideas.

Behold MONKS gins, shrouded in secrecy, enrobed in the ethereal and infused with elixirs of blueberries, a flourish of fynbos and the natural miracles of sceletium and hemp. This intriguing selection of ingredients says a lot about the characters behind MONKS and their dedication to distilling a taste of the divine. Throw in a hybrid artisanal still named ‘Jennifer’ and the stage is set for a truly unorthodox family of gins. For over a decade, serial entrepreneurs and self-confessed adventurers Nic and Di Davis have shared a farm with fifth-generation Breede Valley wine farmers Coenie and Edelgard Lategan. Last year the friends turned their attention to the business of gin, and they haven’t looked back. Mary Jane, the latest in the line of MONKS gins and the first ever hemp-infused gin in South Africa, launches hot on the heels of Mysterium, the firstborn, and Medella, the middle child.
Getting into the details, MONKS is a dry gin, handcrafted and double-distilled in small batches using a hybrid artisanal still called ‘Jennifer’, named after Nic’s mother and of Nic’s own design. Expect intensely flavour-forward botanicals, nine of them hand-picked and many endemic to the area. Combine with crystal-clear mountain waters and the result is a rewarding one, featuring ripples of citrus, berries and Cape Buchu. While MONKS makes no claims whatsoever as to the health benefits of their gins, the key ingredients in each make for interesting reading. Mysterium is infused with, among other things, the herb Sceletium, a natural mood enhancer sometimes referred to as the ‘pathway to the gods’. Medella features blueberries, farmed by the Lategans and well known as a vitamin-rich superfood high in antioxidants; while Mary Jane is endowed with hemp, widely accepted as a miracle plant.
