Solid Wood (Timber) / Stained Perhaps the greatest advantage of solid wood is that the wood is the same all the way through, so repairs are relatively easy. Repairs to veneer are much more difficult and sometimes impossible. Solid wood furniture is strong enough to easily satisfy all furniture applications, and it can last for centuries. Solid wood is not only good for furniture, but can also be used for kitchen- and bedroom cupboards. Solid woods can be used in their natural form or often get stained to create a more specific colour. The best solid woods to use for staining would be Canadian Ash or Solid Oak. Solid wood is only used to create a base and definite wood grain for the stain. Stains are available in different colours, Yellow’s: Yellow wood and Oregon, Light Brown’s: Teak and Oak, Dark browns: Ebony and Imbuia and Red’s: Rose wood and Mahogany.

Duco Finish Duco makes it easy to manufacture panels (or doors) in a range of finishes and routered patterns. You can choose from a range of satin or gloss colours from any South African Plascon or Dulux colour chart. Preferably MDF, Supawood (18mm or 22mm) is used for Duco to be sprayed on, depending on the door moulding you choose. This durable finish allows for easy maintenance.

Painted finish Painted finish and Duco finish go hand-in-hand, except that painted finish are less labour intensive. There are quite a variety of paint finishes to choose from when you consider this option. A smooth painted finish can be achieved from spraying the water based paint onto the furniture piece or panel. A hand painted technique can be created from painting the panel with a paint brush, which gives you more of a “rough look� This technique will also ensure that no door or panel will look the same, but have the same formality throughout the room. Lastly, we have the paint technique that is mostly done on hand crafted furniture, the distressed look. This is also done free-handed with a paint brush and cloth to ensure that your new piece of furniture gets an old worn-off look. The distressed look is normally done on a piece of furniture that you would like to create a focal point with or draw attention to.
