Take to the Great Western Greenway Escape the bustle of urban life on the Great Western Greenway, the longest off-road cycling and walking trail in Ireland. Meandering along the old Westport/ Achill railway line, which closed in 1937, this 42km traffic-free route is ideal for getting out on a bike for a spin or stretching your legs. Along the way you’ll be surrounded by idyllic countryside and can take in the view of the spectacular Nephin Mountains and across Clew Bay to Croagh Patrick. WALK THE WALKS From Donegal to Clare and West Cork to Wicklow, there are great walking hotspots around the country. These areas are ideal for holiday breaks and offer more than just amazing walks – you’ll find superb activities, festivals, dining, entertainment and great value accommodation offers (many in this guide!). Look out too for the walkers welcome symbol! There are now over 200 National looped walks throughout the country and they are all located in the most scenic areas, with most taking just 2 to 2.5 hours to complete. Hit the Trail on National Trails Day (Oct 2, 2011) Sunday, October 2, 2011 is National Trails Day.
