UPCOMING EVENTS: August 20

Wrap Up Party 725 West Commerce St. Hernando, MS
Dear Team Captains and Participants, The weekend of June 3rd was HOT! HOT! HOT! but you came out to Relay anyway to represent DeSoto County’s commitment to fight cancer! While we were having fun in the bright and sizzling sun…wearing our sunscreen of course… we were raising money to pay for lifesaving programs and services that the American Cancer Society provides to patients, survivors and their families and to FIGHT BACK against this disease. Currently, we have raised $76,240 through letters, online pledges, craft shows, yard sales and many other fundraisers, just to name a few. Each one of you worked incredibly hard to raise this money and we are so appreciative of all of your efforts. The temperature of our event was high and my hopes are still high that we will meet our goal of $80,000. If each of our teams raise another $125, we will reach our goal! That is just $12 per participant! Let’s heat up our post-event fundraising through a little incentive to give you all a BOOST! Any team raising their $125 before August 20, 2011 will have their registration fee waived in 2012. Any team raising another $250 before August 20, 2011 will also have a 3-hour free pass at the 2012 event, where their team can take a break from the track from 3-6AM (or in the hottest part of the day if it’s a scorcher next year too)! Please grab your families, your lawn chairs and a side dish and join us for a WrapUp party at my home on August 20th from 6:00-7:30. Please RSVP by August 1st so that we have a head count for burgers and hotdogs. We will eat dinner together and then awards will be presented to all teams in attendance. I am thrilled and honored to be part of an organization that has made such progress in the fight against cancer. In fact, we have all been touched by the American Cancer Society. Each time I walk into a smoke free restaurant, I am reminded of how much the American Cancer Society does for each and every one of us. Let’s continue to FIGHT BACK against cancer until we reach the finish line! Please join me in continuing to raise money until we meet our goal. Stephanie McGreger Event Chair
A Word about our Goal: This summer we Wwill be adding several categories to the awards that will be given out at our Wrap Up Party on August 20th.
These categories are:
Every year, the ACS sets our fundraising goal based on the previous year’s total. This year’s NET GOAL set by the ACS for our event is $75,800. Last fall, we set our event goal based on our ACS goal of $75,800 plus an estimated 10% expense ratio. We then rounded up to $90,000 to set our standards high to ensure that we met our ACS goal. Now that we are nearing the end of our fiscal year, we are analyzing our numbers and reevaluating how much we still need in order to meet our 2011 ACS Goal. Because of the generosity of our all of our wonderful sponsors, our expense ratio is actually at around 5%. This drastically reduces the GROSS amount that we will need to raise in order to reach the $75,800 net goal set by ACS. Our revised goal based on the actual expense ratio is now a GROSS amount of $80,000!

Mission Delivery Look Good‌ Feel Better! The Look Good...Feel Better program is a community-based, free, national service. It teaches female cancer patients beauty tips to look better and feel good about how they look during chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Services are provided in group workshops, one-on-one salon consultations, and free self-help materials. For more information, call our toll-free number, 1-800-395-LOOK (1-800395-5665) or visit the Look Good‌Feel Better Web site at www.lookgoodfeelbetter.org
Road to Recovery Every day thousands of cancer patients need a ride to treatment, but some may not have a way to get there. The American Cancer Society Road to Recovery program provides transportation to and from treatment for people who have cancer who do not have a ride or are unable to drive themselves. Volunteer drivers donate their time and the use of their cars so that patients can receive the life-saving treatments they need. For more information, call our Memphis office, 901-278-2000.
