Reconstruction of an area is the sum of directions and procedures of the urban, social, economic character and aims at improving the living conditions of the inhabitants and highlighting the cultural, historical and morphological elements of an area. The paper deals with the integration of modern architectural interventions in a traditional environment. Firstly, the basic definitions, the protection agencies, the causes of corruption, the objectives and the methodology of composing a plan for a reconstruction of a settlement are described as the main theoretical background. Furthermore, through a series of examples from the Greek and international bibliography, conclusions are drawn on how to approach new infrastructures in these residential complexes. The study adopts the concepts of "integration, expansion and entirely new design" as the main sections for categorizing selected settlements, and seeks to codify design concepts through the collection of multidimensional information.
