TRANSPORT IN MELBOURNE Melbourne’s grid layout makes it an easy city to navigate, with most attractions within walking distance. Transport options include train, tram, bus or bike.

Types of Transport Around Melbourne Free Tram Travel in the CBD and Docklands There is a Free Tram Zone in Melbourne’s CBD and Docklands. Travel on trams within this zone is free and you do not need to use a myki card. However, if your journey starts or finishes outside the boundaries of the Free Tram Zone, you must touch on your myki at the reader to make sure you have a valid ticket. You can also ride the iconic W-class free City Circle Tram (number 35) that will take you on a historic tour of Melbourne’s CBD, complete with automated commentary. Trams Explore the city and inner Melbourne by tram. All tram stops display maps, timetables and route numbers that correspond to the number on the front of the tram. If you are travelling only within the Free Tram Zone on a tram, you do not need to use a myki card. If you are travelling beyond the Free Tram Zone, don’t forget to touch on and touch off at the start and end of your journey with your myki card. Trains and Buses Melbourne’s train and bus networks will allow you to explore the outer suburbs of Melbourne, accessing schools, universities, hospitals and shopping centres. Should you wish to travel further out within Victoria, use the V/Line service to visit regional towns and significant attractions. Don’t forget to touch on and touch off at the start and end of your journey with your myki card. SkyBus SkyBus is a cost effective and easy to use bus service that runs express between Melbourne Airport and Melbourne’s city centre, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Melbourne Bike Share Melbourne Bike Share provides an affordable transport option for travel around Melbourne. There are 51 bike share locations across the city and bikes can be rented for as little as $2.90.
