nnocent eyes.Eyes that seemed so pure Actions that displayed some degree of naiveity A tuned mind which was focused to success only A live conscious That is who she was..Before the world unwrapped her gift Before nature set the rules..before it dawned to her what was life in campus When her father was not there to threaten the dudes When her mother was not there to remind her to keep herself holy Campus campus campus Where the top cream in the society land but end up wasted Reason being they either worked so hard or had the best cramping power Where people crash their future in a minute or save their future in a second She followed the wide path The path followed by many How her principles and rules loosened remains a mystery But somehow what her naiveity caused could explain it Her heart broken and crashed left her no chance of mercy She was used and damped.. She termed it revenge but didn't remember she was hurting herself A good pretender she became..Accompanied with a smart liar At home she was an angel at school she was a devil That shows how smart she was Love for money bewitched her She could do anything to get money..Whatever it would cost her She had gained the don't care attitude An attitude which can kill She never gave up on her plans though she gave up on her principles She was a go getter..Always got what she wanted Her parents believed in her so much They pushed for the best grades from her and sure enough she got them She used her woman power and graduated with a first class All the ladies in her village were told to be like her Wish they knew the charms used The graph is plotted is what she say Not sure if she understands what it means But KARMA is real.. it will definitely settle the demons

e gets off his bicycle to push it up a hilly road in Thingithu Ward - The Village Photoman. Sorry, I don't know his name. But I know his face from way back. If you grew up in Nanyuki you most definitely know him. If you live in Nanyuki you must have seen him. If you haven't, probably you don't have a photographic memory. I grew up at a time when our parents didn't have smartphones. Wait, they didn't even have dumbphones. All our parents had was love and very painful slippers.

But somehow they had to preserve our childhood memories on paper. That's where the village cameraman would come in. Riding on his bicycle through the village. A small bag worn around his shoulder. A cellotape. bag that carried all his tools of trade: a camera, reels of Our parents would place the photo in the family alfilm and uncollected photos. bum that was always under the table for the proud display to visitors. These You could also borrow a negative to go wash it else- #tbt photos we put up on Facebook and Instagram where. were initially taken using an analogue Kodak. We then When Mr Photoman came parents would hurriedly prepare us. Mostly it was only a change of clothes and some Vaseline on the face and we would be good to go. On a count of three, the camera would flash and we would know that he had taken a photo. Only one photo to save his film. Unlike today when we take a million photos and choose the best two. In our time the first click was all.

took photos of the photos using our Tecnos. Sounds weird, right? This gentleman took photos of me when I was a baby of kindu three years. I'm almost 50 years now and he is still taking photos. He still rides from village to village, estate to estate. On a bicycle. His body hasn't changed much. Probably it is the daily cycling. Only that this time he has a digital camera and you get to select the photos you want him to print.

He would go develop the photos and bring them back at a later date. Maybe after a week. Or month. I don't know his name. But I celebrate him. Say hi Depending on how fast his film got full. have never attended these traditional pre-marriage events because, you know, town children. The likes of kumenya mucii, ruracio, ngurario, planting ithigi, cutting shoulder etc. I only read about them and I hope that one of you will invite me someday. But from stories I have heard, there is this part where several ladies are covered from head to toe in lessos. The aim here is for the prospective husband to do an identification parade and positively identify his chic. I have no problem with you covering my beautiful Petroleum like that because, after all, when you people are not there I shall be unveiling, commissioning and

shall be heard two constituencies away. They shall laugh at me then slap me with fines. While still laughing.

My problem however is what if I pick the wrong lady in this parade of ninjas? What if it is her grandma? What if I pick a fellow man who was mischievously sneaked into lessos?

I don't want it to get there. It is for this reason that I am desperately appealing to my Deputy to fully cooperate on that day. Please do something. Breathe heavily. Clear your throat. Wink at the father of your children honey. Blink faster. Anything. Hug me. Roll I have just been informed that should that happen, on the ground if you seriously need me in your life. there is nowhere they can take me. But the laughter Jump excitedly if you love me. Please.

AMILY LEGACY by Gathoni Wamwondwe

T

he family legacy

Now you are planning my marriage

Brought me up in a world with everything A marriage with a man I don't have feelings for I never knew the meaning of lacking

Whatever I needed was just a phone call away

A man I have to fake my joy not to anger him He is a tycoon and also very disciplined

That is the life you worked hard for For me as your only daughter to live

I have pleased you for too long and I have to be

I received titles even before I was barely 20

strong on this Am not getting married to a man I don't love

But you have to trust me I was not happy

I will take advantage of the chances

I was not happy because I lived your life and not I will go and be a prison doctor my life

Al be treating the sick prisoners and check the

I did what you wanted and not what I wanted

health standards in their rooms

You made me study medicine while my passion

So that I can have a chance to meet the love of my

was in music

life I will sing to him the songs I have composed

You wanted me to withhold the family legacy

Because he really enjoyed listening to my music

My first love is in prison because of loving me

And after his jail term is over

A poor boy he was, who hustled to put food on the table

I can now get married and have children to name

What wrong did he do?? Loving me while he was after you poor??

I just wish you understand why am doing this

Aaaaaw I remember..

I really love and appreciate you What you did was what you thought was right

He made the mistake of holding my shoulders in

And al never judge you for that

public

I will make sure not to bring down the dynasty

You said he was destroying the family name..he Al maintain the family legacy but using a different would paint a bad family name

style

lood shed is no longer to make sacrifices to the Almighty, It's a diversified world they say, diversification directed to evil Days when blood was used as a covenant seal are long gone,

It's now used to cover the coffins, Days when blood was drank as a sign of unity are history, It's now used to disperse the united The number of corpses laid to rest because of diamonds they've Struggled hard for is wanting, It's ironical how the bullet hits the innocent, triggered by the guilty Murder plans strategised by the lazy, implemented on the hard workers How many children have killed their parents for them to gain early inheritance ? How many parents are joining deals that will sweep away their children for money? How many government officials have been murdered in their trial to fight corruption? How many helpless citizens have lost lives as they try to raise a voice? How many wives have plotted for the murder of their spouses for them to take over material wealth? How many widows have been swept from their marital homes for the in laws to take the land? How many weak tycoons have lost their lives for them having a different opinion? How many bullets have been fired on innocent children as people seek power? How many lives have been sacrificed in the seek of justice? There's no safer place, not the streets nor the homes Trust has lost its place, everybody becomes a suspect Every man for himself and God for us all
