Warner Bros’ Headquarters in Los Angeles has been expanded with the Second Century Burbank project by Gehry Partners. The complex is situated along the freeway and, with its “ice-white” facade, resembles giant icebergs majestically rising in front of the film studios. On the side facing the studio lot, these curtain walls are interspersed with metal facades made from natural stainless steel. Their appearance refers to the Art Deco buildings of early Hollywood. The large-sized elements, in their typical Gehry style, were produced by Pohl. They span the entire height of the floors, with most being custom-made to fit the building’s geometry. A special vibration finish has been added to the surface, providing low glare and high reflectivity while avoiding direct mirroring. They blend seamlessly into the surrounding icebergs, adding elegance and a touch of nostalgia to the building. The material used, with its high recycled content, is fully recyclable at the end of its life cycle, contributing to the building’s sustainability.

BUCKLEY GRAY YEOMAN

Cromwell Place

Cromwell Place in London is characterized by its historic architecture and the contemporary addition of an exhibition pavilion. The latter stands out as a striking architectural jewel amidst the listed houses. The project, designed by Buckley Grey Yeoman, converted five carefully restored 1858 townhouses into unique shared gallery and office spaces. Through the modernization, the architects successfully preserved the personality and integrity of the original Victorian rooms while giving them a modern character.

In the courtyard, Pohl provided the metal facade for the new, contemporary exhibition pavilion. Its distinctive sawtooth roof is clad in blackened stainless steel, giving the building a unique and defining character. Black, jumbo-sized panels and angled framing elements at the entrance guide visitors into bright, spacious exhibition areas. The black surface finish called Charcoal Matt was specially developed by Pohl. It contributes to a timeless aesthetic and ensures a consistent, sophisticated appearance over many years.
