A MESSAGE ON

FAITH For as long as I can remember, I’ve had the spirit of an entrepreneur. It’s hereditary, let members of my family tell the story, however, the relation goes much deeper than that. In all, the perseverance that I’ve learned to adapt over the years comes from the example that I got to experience in my adolescence. You have to understand that you can have faith, but not have the wherewithal or tenacity to chase greatness, which for all intents and purposes, is relative. There is a faith walk involved in pursuing your dream and positively impacting the outcome of your aspirations. The important thing to note is that faith, without works, is dead. I challenge you to stand out on faith, but to also be committed to seeing your work through. It’s a matter of realizing how bad you want it, then putting in the work needed to see it through to completion. You’ll be better for your tenacity, in the end.

HIATUS

DEFINED

Dear Readers, Hiatus is defined as a pause or gap in a sequence, series or process. What isn't defined is how that hiatus, and whatever timeframe it covers, can be used. In the time that I've been apart from media and entertainment [after interviewing over 300 people, being interviewed on several platforms myself, working in artist management, operating a radio network, hosting events, producing content and publishing books. I have had various life experiences, from going to therapy, to working in a career in the legal field. I have had health challenges and I have found medical solutions to improve my quality of life. I have learned my ancestry and made decisions about how I want to spend my retirement. I have adapted to the changes presented by the pandemic and I have concurred my anxiety about being in the public eye. I have created a life for myself where I have peace and I am safe to be myself and live authentically and unapologetically as a Black woman.

While Detroit CEO Magazine was in hiatus, the Brave Ambition Radio Network was created by Lacretia L. Rogers. The network is growing and flourishing under Lacretia's vision for a Black woman owned content space, influenced in part by the success of women like Cathy Hughes (Radio One/Urban One) and Zondra Hughes (Six Brown Chicks) where creators are able to share their creativity, perspectives and experiences with audiences. Now, Detroit CEO Magazine is added back into that content space to continue to share the achievements and acknowledge people in business, tech, entertainment and more. Upcoming issues of Detroit CEO Magazine with be released with its new companion podcast, In Conversation with Angela T. Jones, and I'm excited to meet and introduce you to some very amazing and ambitious people, not just from Detroit, but from around the World. A hiatus has ended. I hope you will continue to support us on the journey. Peace, Angela T. Jones, Managing Editor

STOP

OVERTHINKING IT I was asked to write an insert and naturally, my mind went blank. Of course it did. Then I realized that I was simply overthinking it. I really just wanted to use this space to be myself. Authentically. That word has been a resounding word in my life for the past three years. I was outgrowing my comfort zone and this word was, and still is, my cushion. I chose to lean in it. Trust it. Build in it. And here I am. Listen, I really thought I was going to lose my eyebrows in this process, but thankfully I only got my edges snatched. Which is a thing in itself. I want to thank my edges for getting me this far, but it’s some things in life that you just have to let go.

Bunnie Mae, Creative Director When I moved into this space in my life, I realized that I had the potential to help others, just by being myself. I made a vow to show up authentically, because I’m no teacher. I can’t pinpoint or write down how it feels. But I can show you. I can let you in on my journey and hopefully, help you on yours. I look forward to showing up, and I appreciate all of you on my expedition…

LIFE BALANCE By Lacretia L. Rogers

Plan your day Planning your day is good for your health and well-being. It helps you to develop timemanagement skills, be organized and accountable, and boosts your focus and productivity.

Take regular breaks Taking regular breaks can restore your focus and attention. It can reduce or prevent stress, increase your creativity and prevent decision fatigue.

Prioritize social interactions Prioritizing your social interactions can help you maintain your relationships. It can also lighten your mood and increase your happiness.

Remember to exercise and get fresh air Health is wealth. You cannot enjoy everything that you've worked hard for if your health is compromised. Remember to schedule your annual appointment, giving it top priority.

Mark the end of your working day Keeping a tight schedule can reduce tension. Let the end of your workday truly be the end so you can participate in other activities that contribute to your happiness and overall well -being

Don’t be too hard on yourself It's easy to be hard on yourself when you care about what you do. Reference your journey as a sprint and not a race. Give yourself grace and permission to rest. Once you're able to do that on a consistent basis, you can view your to-do list with fresh eyes and perspective. Your only competition is yourself.
