Farming for Life -‐ Ergonomics Class with Green Heron Tools – 45 minute session A healthy body helps you live the life that you want and farm for as long as you want and need to. This interactive program will focus on choosing & using tools -‐-‐ and using your own body -‐-‐ in ways that minimize injuries and pain and help keep you healthy despite the inherent risks in farming.

Break -‐ Coffee, Tea, Snacks Tool Maintenance and Sharpening – Josh Volk of Slow Hand Farm – 45 minute session Basic concepts and techniques for making your farm hand tools work their best and last a long time. Josh will show the techniques he has been using for the last 20 years for sharpening knives, hoes, pruners and others on the farm, without power tools, and his approach to keeping wooden handles in good shape and comfortable to use.

Johnny’s Tools Cultivating Tools: Hoes / Hand Tools, Grass Stitcher, Wheel Hoe and Attachments
DIY Seed Cleaning Equipment Demo – Allen Dong of I Tech Designs – 45 minute session Make your own tools for small-‐scale farms and gardens. This session present designs for grain thresher, winnower, screen seed cleaner and vacuum seed storage system. All I Tech designs and inventions are public domain. Break – Appetizers and Beverages Equipment Showcase and Panel Discussion – 1 hour 15 min session Farmer Panel will start off by sharing some of their own equipment innovations and/or favorite tools and then open the floor for you to share yours. Allen Dong (I Tech Designs) will be sharing his solar food dryer design; Josh Volk (Slow Hand Farm) will share his hand carts; and Jeremy Mueller (Excelsior Farm and Johnny’s Tools) will share his flame weeder. Please bring in tools, pictures and stories of your own equipment innovations as well as your challenges and ideas for equipment that would help improve the efficiency of your farm operation. OSU Engineering students will be attending and listening to your ideas to inspire their senior projects.
