Polk SWCD Vole Control Program Nesting Box Designs

Boxes should be mounted at least 10 feet high on a tree, building, or pole with shelter from southern sun and prevailing winds A clear flight path to box hole should be maintained Clean waste out of box each fall Boxes might not be used by birds during the first two seasons and typically 50-60% of all boxes are used Barn Owl Nest Box Plans

MATERIALS: 1. One 1” x 10” x 8’ untreated pine board 2. Two 1.5” hinges (for outdoor use) 3. Nails and screw (for outdoor use) ASSEMBLY: 1. Cut board to the appropriate dimensions 2. Drill two 1/4” ventilation holes in both side sections and four holes in the floor section 3. Cut 3” diameter hole in front section 4. Assemble using hinges to attach top section and fasten with screw

MATERIALS: 1. 1/2” x 48” x 32” plywood 2. 1” x 4” x 4’ board 3. Two 3” hinges (for outdoor use) 4. Nails and screw (for outdoor use) ASSEMBLY: 1. Cut plywood to the appropriate dimensions 2. Drill ventilation holes in both side sections and floor section 3. Cut 6” diameter hole in front section (square or round hole ) 4. Assemble using hinges to attach front section and fasten with screw
