SAI is a three-credit, week long, graduate-level course offered through Oregon State University for K-12 educators with little or no agricultural background. “All the tours were so eye-opening. Everything dispelled myths I had held as true for a lifetime.”

“Materials are fabulous!! I’d recommend this to anyone!”

A fun and uniquely designed program that helps teachers use agriculture to teach academic standards. “I love it all! It was a great balance of classroom learning and hands-on application.”

“This was inspiring! I am going to become a hydroponics farmer and… teach Ag in Literature/Language Arts. I had a great week!”

“The resources and wide variety of experiences were impressive. I am overwhelmed by the value of the class/ experience compared to the cost. I appreciated not having to worry about housing, transportation or food. It made the week more enjoyable and enabled us to focus on learning and conserve more energy.” The goal of SAI is to help educators learn to use Agriculture as a context (or theme) for teaching the Academic Standards (science, math, social studies, English, etc.).

Additionally, educators receive hands-on instruction and collateral materials to incorporate agriculture into their classroom curriculum. SAI provides a working environment for participants to experience current, factual, scientific information about agriculture, and learn what it takes for farmers to be successful in today’s global economy. We are proud of the many volunteers, educators, agri-businesses, and contributors who come together annually to make SAI a successful and positive learning experience for teachers. “This was one of the most comprehensive, fun, educational experiences ever. You treat us so well, take such good care... what an amazing experience! I still can’t believe all we did in such a short time.”
