We would like to thank our professors, Prof. Riya Kapoor Dheer and Prof. Himadiri have the attitude and the substance of a genius: they continually and convincingly conveyed a spirit of adventure regarding DPR preparation and data collection and excitement regarding teaching. Without their guidance and persistent help, this DPR preparation would not have been possible.

Abstract

The Aim of this Exercise is to plan a detailed project report for tourism in Jhansi development area with several theories and concepts as its method of development. DPR is concerned with identifying and resolving local level problems and issues and plan that area in the most effective way possible by providing hustle free environment and environment with green informal spaces.

In this exercise, various planning approach and techniques have led to the desired outcomes followed by the process of Area appreciation (Primary case study- Sector 15), Literature study, Site visits, program formulation, concept development, detailing and understanding.

A good neighbourhood area is where all services and amenities are approachable to everyone at walking distance and reduced use of private transportation services with amalgamation of certain informal activities which help them enjoy their space and improved living conditions. The informal activities can range from entertainment plazas to the food courts, neighbourhood parks, community centres etc. This area planning exercise revolves around the neighbourhood concept and its several theories about inter-relation of spaces with its users and other areas, and therefore several public and semi-public activities are to be placed at several spots to meet the concept of walkability. Understanding and planning out the sector based on several standards and guidelines as defined by several authorities. Getting an overview from the Area Appreciation- Case study and learning inferences through it about spatial arrangements, do and don’ts to be looked upon and inculcated while planning the sector.

A Neighbourhood should have a peaceful environment to cater all kinds of day-to-day activities like commercial spaces, food hubs, recreational spaces, residential units, several public and semi-public activities and other amenities that plunge individuals, gives sentiments of closeness and security and never encourage them to move away from its boundary. Also, according to the need of the project the inter-relation of human with different elements of nature and its manifestation with planning through different theories and techniques and to provide a space for well-being, self-sustained built environment that provokes mental peace and healthy neighbourhood thus objectives undertaken for this planning exercise were understanding the methods to be followed to achieve the end design, get knowledge from literature review of various theories and elements to look upon while developing concept, site plan formulation and to understand the spatial arrangement, functioning of the amenities from Area appreciation exercise and to develop site as per context, zoning and site analysis and to develop plans. The major learnings are to formulate program, spatial arrangements, and features according to housing typology and site condition and how to design efficient neighbourhood using existing natural and built environment.

This exercise can be looked forward by others and further generations and has a room for improvement and can be approached to manifest places to develop a healthy neighbourhood. Several spaces within it can act as a recreational and rejuvenation space from daily chaos. Neighbourhood elements amalgamation and interpretation is also the major learning and way forward to others. This project has uniqueness and is the need of the hour to develop an effective sector with reduced traffic congestions, proper amenities and services and achieve walkability in a sector.
