1.1 Introduction

Social Infrastructure includes various facilities and services that play an important role in the quality of life where the availability and accessibility to the social infrastructure play a key role.

This chapter will discuss the provision of social infrastructure facilities in Jhansi. The healthcare facilities such as dispensaries, hospitals, and polyclinics. It includes education facilities such as schools and colleges. The religious buildings and hotels. Also, the recreational, socio-cultural, sports, distribution, and police facilities.

1.2 Health care

There are 143 healthcare facilities in Jhansi city, amongst which 23 are owned by the government and rest are the private. The town has plenty of private healthcare facilities including dispensaries, polyclinic, specialty, and multi-specialty hospitals, which are spread across the city. The table below shows the main facilities present in Jhansi.

1.2.1 Primary and Government Healthcare

The main private healthcare’s are present on the main spine of Jhansi that is NH39 and that road connects the cantonment area, railway station and the fort area as well.

The city has a govt. hospital located on the Railway road, Bhel road, Cantonment area, Rajeev Nagar, Manik Chowk, etc.

According to URDPFI Guidelines, we have categorised total healthcare into 6 parts. Multispeciality hospitals and General hospitals are lacking.

There are 5 main hospitals are there in jhansi which have minimum of 100 beds.

1.2.2 Local Perception

• Jhansi's primary university is MLB University. This institution has a 650-bed primary general hospital, which is situated on the main spine road.

• Most of the residents prefer private hospitals because most of the private hospitals are at a distance of 1-3Km.

• Private hospitals are easily accessible to the people.

• Govt. hospitals are limited and far away

• Private healthcare is costly than govt. hospitals. But the resident don’t have any option to visit private healthcare.

1.2 Education

Education plays important role in the development of the town as it affects the literacy level which decides the urbanization of the city and also the exposure to various educational facilities. Jhansi consists of educational facilities ranging schools to colleges, which are provided by the state government as well as private institutions. The town has 85 education facilities in the core of Jhansi, amongst which 14 schools and 5 colleges are owned by the government,58 schools and 8 colleges are the private.

The table below shows the number of educational facilities present in the Jhansi.

1.2.1 School

There are 58 private schools and 14 schools are owned by the state government.

This survey shows the ratio of the existing schools present in the Jhansi i.e.81% are private schools and only 19% schools are owned by the state government.

This survey shows the ratio of the schools which are on the preference list of the people who lives in Jhansi i.e. 22% goes to the government and 78% goes to the private agencies.

This survey shows the students who studies in government schools, belongs to which background class i.e.35% are the people who lies below the poverty line, 55% people are lower middle class, 10% people are upper middle class who choose government school for their children’s education, but no one from the high class people refer government school for their children’s education.

There are several schools in the main area, and there is a lot of traffic and congestion there.

There are 8 private colleges and 5 government colleges present in the Jhansi.

Inferences-

All the major schools are located near the core city, due to which the students from outer regions have to travel for their education.

Because of the popularity of Bundelkhand university at Jhansi, a large number of students come for other regions of India, which ultimately help the local govt. To generate revenue and boost economy of the region.

1.3 Religion

This plays a major role in the community development and upliftment, helps in building strong communities and allow community up-gradation and participation. It strengthens individuals, families, communities and society as a whole. There is total 107 number of religious facility are there in the Jhansi, amongst 86 are temples and 21 are churches.

This survey shows the ratio of temples and churches in the Jhansi, 80% goes for Temples and rest 20% goes to the Churches.

Some Major Issues-

The present condition of the few temples are not good enough to sustain them for a longer time. The structure has become weak, there are many cracks on the walls and surfaces, also the paint has come off. The authorities are also not taking proper care for the restoration of the structure. Also, the dampness has also impacted the structure.

INFERENCES-

Here are many temples and churches which are great destination for tourists, because of the spread out of temples and churches all over Jhansi.

1.4 Accommodation

This plays an important role in the community development, helps in building revenue, capital and tourism. There are 65 accommodation facility are present in the Jhansi in which there are 56 Hotels and 9 Dharamshala

INFERENCES-

Hotels are mainly located nearby NH and station junction which are at the core of Jhansi Because of the poor condition of hotel, it will consist as a failure for less tourism. There are only two 5-star hotels and rest have very poor condition
