Architecture Undergraduate Portfolio-Devashish Solanki.

Page 1

I’m Devashish Solanki, a fourth year student currently pursuing the B.arch degree from MNIT, Jaipur. The Portfolio is a curated collection of my architectural design and personal work that reflects my passion for creation of indigenous spaces that sustain close harmony to nature, often trying to resonate its qualities with a modernist perspective. The notion of interdisciplinary in Architecture has always inspired me to seek design solutions from every aspect of life to create spaces that do more than serving a functional purpose but also create a unique emotional response.

The Brief aimed at designing a senior secondary school demanded for classrooms, a library, office, auditorium, laboratories, and all other necessary spaces as required by a school for approximate 1500 students. This has presented an opportunity to retool reimagine schools that not only foster a good educative space but also establish a sense of community and social value. Located in the Outskirts of Udaipur Town, Annectent School campus meets functional needs of 1500 students in 36 classes, mainly serving the surrounding residential people. The design of the project is based on the principle of ‘creating a nature-friendly open teaching environment’. Based on the principle of openness and flexibility, outdoor learning, living and interactive space are created through the full use of space with sustainable means for comfort.

Verdurous Cover As the site is located in Udaipur which has partly hot and sunny climatic conditions the Window lintels of classroom are strategically proposed to hold low maintainence plants and vines, Thus creating a micro-climate, providing a cool and quiet atmosphere for the classrooms, while creating views and green landscapes for all classes.

Cortiles Inspired by the traditional courtyards found in regional architecture of rajasthan the block containing the classrooms is provided with courtyard or cortile. The courtyard is a splendid green space to create a garden-like campus environment and ample activities. Thus providing visual connection and comfort through stack ventilation.

Flowing Space The strategy adopted here is using flowing space as flows: Setting up overhead floors and activity platforms at different levels, creating a visual connections for both, guiding the space, and reducing the continuous body’s sense of pressure to create space which is an affinity and of open attitude.

Arciform |Commercial Plaza Design. MNIT,Jaipur,India. Academic Project. Semester IV. Site|Jaipur 2880sqm.

The well developed campus of MNIT jaipur was poised for a total transformation of the Shopping complex for students and consequently of the entire idea of public interaction ,desire and commerce. The aim of design was to produce a holistic, physical space that contains all of the basic facilities for college students in any form that communicate pratical, pragmatic and economically achievable solutions. The Arciform is conceived from this fundamental intent. At the most fundamental level, it provides shelter for community activities - the place for regular living amenity, social and recreational activities in the space provided. Simultaneously, it needs to respond to the environment, particularly in addressing the sunlight, heat, humidity of hot and dry climate. Correspondingly, it takes the form of a tall and wide covered walkway to shelter the intended community activities. The roof solution responds to the desire to keep itself and the space below cool by sustainable means: insulating with soil and greenery.

The Living Museum|Terra viva Competitions Group Project Site|Orani 10400sqm

Orani, a small town located in the heart of Barbagia has one particular feature that highlights it from the rest of the villages, a “hidden gem” which is already there: the Nivola Museum. The brief asked to imagine and design creative proposals focused on a unique and unconventional type of accommodation facility, located in the heart of the museum’s park. A privileged stopover for those tourists intent on traveling through the Nuorese region, and possibly also for those international artists who periodically reach Orani to set up their own exhibitions. The aim was to avoid massive buildings that generally neglect the context.Infact, the intention was to design small scale structures capable of enhancing the value of the natural site. The design serves as a retreat of exploration and contemplation. The design complements and puts forth the museum in its absolute eminence rather than overshadowing it.

The cabins welcome the visitors into white opulence, synonymous to the interiors of the museum. These notable vernacular elements in a contemporary setting give a calming experience to the tourists and prompts them to explore the heritage and culture of the place, rather than a mere visit to the museum. The orientation of the modules towards the city and the museum not only gives impeccable views attracting more visitors.
