Intermodal Transit Hub Pune, India Undergraduate Thesis | Academic | 2022
Design thesis with research on the public transit in Balewadi, Pune and a design proposal for a transit hub connecting the multiple modes of public transport in the city.
09
The research originates from a site in north-west Pune,
uniquely located in terms of transport infrastructure, at an intersection of expressway, upcoming metro and local
bus terminal point. The aim of the research is to check the
viability of an intermodal hub on subject site and shortlist the modes of transport to be integrated.
Visual Analysis
The site is clearly visible upon entry to the city as well as while exiting the city, any structure on the site will serve as a landmark.
Activity Analysis
On the west of the site, heavy vehicular activity, noise and pollution are observed. On the north of the site, a substantial amount of pedestrian
and slow vehicular activity. The third access road on the east is a lane with practically no activity.
The north face will be the closest to the upcoming metro station and will serve as a better pedestrian as well as vehicular entry.

ZONING:
Public zone: Intermodal connectivity
Commercial with highway frontage
The most important design consideration in the project is the flow of
pedestrians, public transport and intercity buses on site. Preferably no
or minimum intersection of their paths should occur. The zoning is done keeping in consideration this factor as well as minimising road areas as much as possible.
Bus parking and maintenance Terminal building
The lower half of the site is retained as the city bus depot, but changed in design, the upper half where major pedestrian activity is located, is planned to be the terminal.
The terminal is planned to be barrier-free and semi-open for easy traffic flow

Social Distancing Housing International Competition Entry | NonArchitecture | 2020 Team of two- Devi Kulkarni and Nitin Mhapsekar My role: Equal responsibility in conceptualizing, designing, 3D modelling and presenting the idea
Back to Square One Designed for the urban migrant youth, ‘Back to Square One’ caters to the exceptional need during lockdown, of sufficient private open space along with one’s residence.
40 young professionals will each be housed in a unit of 5mx5m that opens into a private balcony of 2.5mx5m. A winding staircase connects the different levels through a common lobby, which is connected
to the balcony of each unit, promoting better co-habitation and relationships among the residents.
The entry is from this balcony where one would sanitize oneself before entering the residence. This also provides for a touchless delivery
system, allowing the package to be dropped-off in the balcony. A
sliding-folding door creates a dynamic space for the user; both open
and private, with a green wall as backdrop, for a kitchen-garden or for basking in the sun!
The internal household organization is without partitions, making
daily activities and cleaning easier and the usage of floor space more efficient. All units have 3 open faces, ensuring natural crossventilation.
Keeping in mind the need to connect with the outside, a roof-top park is designed with social-distancing seating and jogging track, acting as a space for social interaction and mental well-being.

Refugee House Delhi, India Architectural Design and Research | Academic | 2018
A residence for a family of refugees in a host country. I assumed the role of one Rohingya Muslim refugee from Buthidaung and
participated in a simulation of my life (by means of an interactive
card game) with other fellow refugees. A house can play a vital role in the livelihood of these refugees in a foreign land.
