Section through library Typical building section The academic building is designed to reveal itself slowly to those who wish to explore it. The faculty offices and the canteen have access separately directly from the road and are on the first level. The entrance is a three-storey space with projecting floors and intertwining staircases designed to be a lively place buzzing with student activity. The lecture halls and laboratories are on levels 1 and 2 below entrance level. This gives sufficient privacy and silence to these spaces.

05 Refugee House Darul Hijrah, Delhi
The ground floor has a shop, a kitchen and a shared wash area. The upper floor serves as a bedroom and a study.
Realistic simulation of a refugee’s life was set up in this studio. A plot of 5m x 5m was assigned to every student in a lucky draw. This excluded any roads or sources of ventilation. Discussions for the same were carried out, assuming the role of the plot-owner and mapping of roads was done, everyone having to sacrifice some area. The idea of a “tool house” was introduced. The house is designed for a family of 5 Rohingya Muslim refugees. Apart from providing shelter, it also serves the purpose of providing a means of livelihood to the family.
The staircase is shared by the immediate neighbour. This tool house helps the family to run a shop, a tiffin business, a laundry business and coaching classes for students.
