CHINA’S DRAGON ROBES Dragon robe and crown is a sort of costume worn by emperors on the most important occasions in ancient China. Dragon robe refers to the noble dress decorated with rolling dragons while dragon crown is the noble hat. As a world-famous country of amenity, China has been attaching importance to various amenity-related activities since ancient times. Accordingly, costumes prepared for different amenity-related activities have developed into a clothing system exclusively possessed by China. According to archeological discoveries, crown-costume came into existence early in the Shang Dynasty. It was a kind of grande toilette worn by the emperor and supreme officials of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty on ceremonious sacrificial occasions. Due to the enhancement of emperor’s rights in later dynasties, dragon robe and crown became the costume exclusively prepared for the emperor, and even, served as a token of the emperor. In the feudal society 6
with rigid hierarchy, costume was an important symbol for distinguishing the noble and humble as well as class differences. Dragon robe and crown acted as a symbol of imperial power other than a top-grade dress. Making dragon robe and crown privately at that time was perceived to be a crime as serious as rebellion. Exquisite dragon robe and crown is a prime of Chinese ancient costume with rich cultural context. The dragon embroidered on the robe demonstrates the worship of dragon totem in ancient China, while the shape of the crown contains the cultural content of “Round heaven and square earth”. The exquisite and graceful dragon robes and crowns preserved in the Palace Museum are an embodiment of supreme dressmaking technique in ancient China. Moreover, they can reflect the aesthetic consciousness in traditional chinese culture.
Color A yellow dragon is said to have presented the Chinese with a scroll inscribed with mystic characters, and this tradition is said to be the legendary origin of the Chinese system of writing.
Dragon The dragon on the robe is a distinctive type associated with the imperial house. Its wide, flat head is topped by horns and flanked by wiry whiskers. The dragon tosses a flaming pearl between its claws. The heavens are represented by a band of colorful stylized, stringy clouds that curl on top of the waves and float up in little ovals through the robe. The dragon is the centerpiece of an elaborate set of images that symbolize the emperor’s authority as an intermediary in the universal order between heaven and earth. The great and beneficial power of the dragon could be brought to the people by the good governance of the emperor. The pearl within the dragon’s grasp is a symbol of wisdom, like a worthy emperor.
Symbol Many symbols of good luck and power suround the dragon. The whole

Wales (1 July 1961 – 31 August 1997)
iana Princess of
Princess Diana Prince of Wales, whom she married on 29 July 1981. She was also well known for her fund-raising work for international charities, and an eminent celebrity of the late 20th century. Her wedding to the Prince of Wales, held at St Paul’s Cathedral, was seen by a global television audience of over 750 million. The marriage produced two sons, the princes William and Harry, currently second and third in line to the thrones of the 16 Commonwealth realms. Diana was born into an aristocratic English family with royal ancestry and became a public figure with the announcement of her engagement to Prince Charles. Diana also received recognition for her charity work and for her support of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines. From 1989, she was the president of Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, in addition to dozens of other charities. She remained the object of worldwide media scrutiny during and after her marriage, which ended in divorce on 28 August 1996. Media attention and public mourning were great after her death in a car crash in Paris on 31 August 1997.

Her Husband The Prince of Wales (Prince Charles) had previously been linked to Lady Diana’s elder sister Lady Sarah, and in his early thirties he was under increasing pressure to marry. The Prince of Wales had known Lady Diana for several years, but he first took a serious interest in her as a potential bride during the summer of 1980, when they were guests at a country weekend, where she watched him play polo. The relationship developed as he invited her for a sailing weekend to Cowesaboard the royal yacht Britannia, followed by an invitation to Balmoral to meet his family. Lady Diana was well received by Elizabeth II, by The Duke of Edinburgh, and by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. The couple subsequently courted in London. The prince proposed on 6 February 1981, and Lady Diana accepted, but their engagement was kept secret for the next few weeks.

Prince William and Prince
Harry
Her Children On 5 November 1981, the Princess’ first pregnancy was officially announced, and she frankly discussed her pregnancy with members of the press corps. In the private Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London on 21 June 1982, under the care of Pinker, the Princess gave natural birth to her and the Prince’s first son and heir, William Arthur Philip Louis. Amidst some media criticism, she decided to take William, still a baby, on her first major tours of Australia and New Zealand, but the decision was popularly applauded. A second son, Henry Charles Albert David, was born two years after William, on 15 September 1984. The Princess asserted she and the Prince were closest during her pregnancy with “Harry”. She was aware their second child was a boy, but did not share the knowledge with anyone else, including the Prince of Wales. Even her harshest critics agree that the Princess of Wales was a devoted, imaginative and demonstrative mother. She rarely deferred to the Prince or to the Royal Family, and was often intransigent when it came to the children.

“
On 31 August 1997, Diana was fatally injured in a car crash in the Pont de l’Alma road tunnel in Paris, which also caused the death of her boyfriend, Dodi Fayed and their driver, Henri Paul, acting security manager of the Hotel Ritz Paris. Millions of people watched her funeral. The initial French judicial investigation concluded the accident was caused by Henri Paul’s drunken loss of control. As early as February 1998, Dodi’s father, Mohamed AlFayed publicly maintained that the crash had been planned, accusing as well as The Duke of Edinburgh. An inquest in London starting in 2004 and continued in 2007–2008 attributed the accident to grossly negligent driving by Henri Paul and to the pursuing paparazzi. Diana’s funeral took place in Westminster Abbey on 6 September 1997. Her sons, the Princes William and Harry, walked in the funeral procession behind her coffin, along with the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Edinburgh, and with Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer. 16

Alexander McQueen
(17 Mar 1969 -11 Feb 2010) Alexander McQueen was a British fashion designer and couturier best known for his in-depth knowledge of bespoke British tailoring, his tendency to juxtapose strength with fragility in his collections, as well as the emotional power and raw energy of his provocative fashion shows.
Alexander McQueen
was a romantic. This much is apparent from the 16 looks that made up his last collection, which was 80% finished at the time of his death in February. Byzantine art and medieval religious iconography inspired his final collection. McQueen, long obsessed with modern technology, wove prints of famous works of art, like Hieronymus Bosch’s Garden of Earthly Delights, into fabrics, a meticulous technique that perfectly exemplifies his love of both history and modernity.
Each model wore a feathered headpiece, some with gilded cockscomb mohawk, and booties, either black with golden studs or in a golden pattern; McQueen’s singular vision could at once be so perverse, challenging, and incredibly on point, as well as retail savvy. Up close, no one can deny the extraordinary beauty of a McQueen gown. That said, some of the more daring and fashion-forward stars, like Cate Blanchett and Jennifer Connelly, often looked to McQueen for more interesting red carpet fodder. Above all else, even in a covered-up look, the designer could still celebrate a woman’s body beautifully.

て て天 ん ん の皇 の う う
て 天 ん の皇 の う
Empire of Japan The Emperor of Japan is, according to the 1947 Constitution of Japan adopted by the Postwar Japanese government, “the symbol of the state and of the unity of the people,” which simultaneously dissolved the Empire of Japan. He is a ceremonial figurehead under a form of constitutional monarchyand is head of the Japanese Imperial Family with functions as head of state. He is also the highest authority of the Shinto religion. In his dual role as head of a religion and head of state the Emperor resembles the British monarch, who is “supreme governor” of the Church of England. The Emperor is called the Tennō (天皇) in Japanese, literally meaning “heavenly sovereign”. He is also referred to in English as the Mikado (帝) of Japan.
The Imperial House The Imperial House of Japan is the oldest continuing hereditary monarchy in the world. In Nihon Shoki, a book of Japanese history finished in the eighth century, it is said that the Empire of Japan was founded in 660 BC by Emperor Jimmu. The current emperor is His Imperial Majesty the Emperor Akihito, who has been on the Chrysanthemum Throne since his father the Showa Emperor (Hirohito) died in 1989. In fact, from 1192 to 1867, the shoguns, or their shikken regents in Kamakura (1203–1333), were the de facto rulers of Japan, although they were nominally appointed by the emperor. Since the mid-nineteenth century, the Imperial Palace has been called “Kyūjō”(宮城), then Kōkyo (皇居), and located on the former site of Edo Castlein the heart of Tokyo. Earlier emperors resided in Kyoto for nearly eleven centuries. Although the emperor has been a symbol of continuity with the past, the degree of power exercised by the emperor of Japan has varied considerably throughout Japanese history.
