VEGETURIZE

n at u r a l ly i n s p i r e d s e n s at i o n s ’ b o o k

The idea is to create a book for children, with a different approach; something that has to be observed, touched and felt, a book that became a game itself. The project aims to let the children experience the porosity of the paper directly with their hands. Inspired by fruits and vegetables’ textures we have created a series of games that use paper’s characteristics to let the child feel the different touching experiences.

Process 1. Picking porous natural living beings in a strict category of fruits and vegetables. 2. Coloring the fruits and vegetables white to kill their identity and highlight the porous area of study. 3. Leaving the green part of the fruits and vegetables uncolored so it would stay out of the focus of study. 4. Taking macro pictures of the white highlighted areas. 5. Extracting a trim out of the porous lines in the macro images of each vegetable and fruit. 6. Creation of a layered texture out of the trim lines of each vegetable and fruit, simplifying the texture. Target: 3-6 years old children and their parents with interest in the visual art field.

ROUX n at u r a l ly i n s p i r e d s a n s at i o n b o o k

Firm Roux-Safran de l’Arbizon is a family safranière located in the Aure valley, on the sunny slopes of the little Jézeau village (Hautes-Pyrénées). It is run by the Roux family (Edouard, Juliette and Basile) originally from the north of France. They moved to the Pyrénées three years ago.

Design Nature lovers and attracted by the Pyrénées, in 2008 they had the idea of growing saffron and in 2011 their idea materialized. Their saffron is coltivated naturally without fertilizers and pesticides, on the ideal high for saffron growing (900m), giving all his precoious aromas that allow you to add flavor to dishes. The goal was to enhance the values both of the products, by highlighting the hard manual work that goes into growing saffron, and of the firm, such as respect for nature, organic products, family firm and the high quality of this spice.

Packaging The packaging consists of two parts and is designed to allow a perfect conservation of the spice. The inner jar made of glass protects the product from deterioration caused by the environmental factor. The outer jar is made of cork and a paste of cellulose plus air so as to keep the product at the same temperature and thereby maintaining the spice’ features. Furthermore the design of the cork top fixes the glass jar thus protecting it against possible shocks. All the used materials are organic material thus to be biodegradeble/ recyclable in respect to nature.

Booklet Since I found that saffron uses are unknown to most, I decided to create a box of two books containing information about saffron properties, its difficult cultivation, and a collection of recipes from all over the world. All is handmade so that to emphasize the manuality of saffron cultivation.

CLOUDS handcrafted earrings

These earrings take form with a fascination for the charm and elegance of women’s bodies, captured in the black and white portraits of great photographers. In their work I was immediately attracted by the elegance of the shapes, the equilibrium between the parts, the fluid lines that characterize the body. With these earrings my intention was to complete the harmony accompanying the movement of the head and emphasizing the beauty of the human shapes.

NAUTILIDAE handcrafted earrings

Nautilidae is a research project about shapes: looking at forms not as they are, but as they could be. The research is divided into three phases: what it is (analysis), what it does (evolution) and what it becomes (summary). My intention was to inspect the evolution, to see what are the permanent features while the sahpes chages. By starting from a grid of six columns I’ve drawn a line formed by six angles. According to precise rules (the line could be repeated and rotated inside a square area) I’ve analyzed the evolution of the shape. With this process and starting from the same module, I obtained complex images very different one to the other. By synthesizing the resulting images, I’ve developed them tridimensionally with handmade pottery.

D O E S I T F L O AT useless machine

Inspired by Bruno Munari’s Useless machines, Does it Float is a project formal and visual research. The goal was to create a structure useless as a material object but necessary as a spiritual object, that could stimulate the imagination. In particoular I decided to focus on the visual and formal aspects of movement. Does it Float is a very simple structure, in which the observer is directly involved in the generation of the movement and in the observation of the shapes and the effects created by it. By synthesizing the resulting images, I’ve developed them tridimensionally with handmade pottery.

RADA handcrafted pottery

Rada, in english natural harbor, is the safe place where ships seek shelter from stormy weather. The image I have of Rada is that of sweet inlet on the coast. Attracted by this image of nature and safety I wanted to recreate the same feelings with a pottery vase: handmade, projected while making it, the shape was istinctive, changing according to the way the planes intersect each other and in the same time garanteing its stability. Just as nature changes its shapes according to necessity.

TA S S E L L AT E w o r k i n g w a s t e m at e r i a l

Project made for Designmadein.net - working waste materials, a network where evryone can download the tutorial for building his own piece of design. Simple, elegant and recycled, Tassellate is the result of reusing wasted materials: bicycle tyre and saddle. I decided to focus on bycicle tyre because of the interesting texture that typify every of them: t he wide assortment of different texture allowed me to create a line of assorted purses.

MANUELLA

listen to music through wood’s grains

Brief Design an audio device throughout an emotionally based story. The focus is on the recall of a specific individual moment and on the interpretation of its conceptual meaning.

Idea The idea was to focus on the evocative power of music and make it stronger. The inspiration came while playing with music boxes: they immediately recalled my stunning childhood feelings. I decided to make a music box 2.0, to associate it to smartphones and to transcribe the music visually.

Design Manuella is a series of headphones for smartphone that transform music in animation. By pressing and moving Manuella’s connector, you activate the app. and depending on the speed at which the crank is turned, sounds and animations are played faster or slower. Both animation and sound can also be played in reverse motion. Made of wood, leather and fabric, these headphones gather the romanticism of music box while making the listening more comfortable.
