ABOUT DEV KARTHIKA

With over 10 years experience in Event, Interior, Product & Retail design, I am a master of spatial and environmental design and experiences. I have spent the last 5 years in the UAE, growing with and understanding the local culture whilst bringing my own touch of creativity on a variety of projects along the way. I embody a great love of design - taking inspiration from life, architecture, automotive, interactive installation design as well as the people around me. A firm believer in the use of relevant, intelligent technology solutions, I work passionately to ensure a seamless consumer experience which enhance audience’s connections with brand stories.

I strongly feel Art and Design are interrelated and this relation is evident in my projects. As design is a solution to a problem, I certainly enjoy confronting challenging tasks and solving them. My ideas and design concepts are usually sketched in digital platform, mainly with Ipad using Procreate App. This provides quick delivery of initial concept to the client for approvals.

EDUCATION Having completed my under graduation in Fine Arts in 2012, with a specialisation in Sculpture from Maharaja Sayajirao University Baroda, I have always had an inclination towards designing. I successfully completed my PG in 3D design from Northumbria University, United Kingdom in 2014.

PRIVATE WEDDING Destination wedding is one of the most trending ways of getting married in the present day. People are selecting exotic locations to get married so that their wedding becomes a memorable affair for them as well as for the people who gets invited. The whole design is inspired by a golden circular pattern. From the tailor-designed kosha to the dining plates. The customised fabric enhances the structure of the stage and dance floor. The maiin colour pallette being shades of pink and gold provides an elegant touch to the whole event.

The complexity of this project, as well as the very tight deadline for its execution, demands meticulous planning and flawless organisation, right from the beginning of the creative concept until the last guest leaves the location at the end of the evening.

The intimate celebration featured touches of white, pink, and purple arrangements that offered the wedding party an air of youth, grace, and regal dignity The main colour palette are from shades of saffron and berry. The challenging part while designing the space was to incorporate the design elements in the given space in the Bulgari Villa without hampering the look and feel.

Surrounded by the beauty of a blue lake, the greenfield, and a clear sky, with assorted flower bouquets mounted on individual golden poles transform the stage to a minimal yet elegant design.

With its circular floral arrangement replicating a halo symbolising heaven or heavenly, was definitely an undoubtful choise for the client. The circular structure was supported by transparent acrylic sheets and the soft outline of the snow-white podium was decorated with slender flasks with candles.

This semi circular contemporary structure blends perfectly with the serene landscape. The flowers sits on a shelf like structure allowing the photographer to take perfect shots.

LVMH WATCH WEEK It was a huge pleasure to be the designer for the inaugural edition of LVMH Watch Week, which was held at Bulgari Hotels and Resorts, Dubai. For the first time ever, the LVMH Group organised an exclusive event dedicated to its watchmaking Maisons - Bvlgari, TAG Heuer, Hublot and Zenith. The event gave the platform to LVMH watch brands to showcase their complementary positions at a single venue, leveraging their unique identities, creativity and ability to continually push the limits of innovation. As for someone who adores watches, this has truly been an exhilarating experience for me.

The mood indicated in the brief for the LVMH event is that the overall concept should evoke a ‘joyful, colourful, extravaganza’. The total number of guests for this event was 650 people. Several photo opportunities like bespoke photobooth, light painting taking shape of the analog and several entertainment carried out with the theme of the event. Unique visual experience was showcased throughout the event by projecting watch interface on to the pool, LED screens, light dance, fireshow, 3D mapping on the building and floors.

CHOPARD The idea of this project was to recreate look and feel of Switzerland and showcase history of Chopard watchmaking. The event was divided into fashion Show Avenue and cocktail party space. It was a challenging task to replicate Swizz valley in Dubai Opera.

The green landscape with snow capped mountains to represent Switzerland and its scenic beauty. Few elements like Glacier express train with its famous arched bridge, wooden bench, muddy pathways, ropeway, lakes and amphitheater being the source of inspiration. The main colour palette are from shades of green and brown. For Chopard watchmaker and jewelry design, the style for display, we envision the new design to have a more elegant look and feel. Within an enchanted ice palace, Chopard invites us to venture through fascinating detours, where winter muffles footsteps and suffuses the world with its majestic light.

Located in Downtown Dubai, Dubai Opera is the radiant centre of culture and arts in Dubai and the shinning pearl of the Opera District. Dubai Opera passionately embraces its role as the creative heart of the city, producing and hosting the finest, most authentic and engaging performing arts experiences from Dubai and the world.

The iconic dhow-shaped building of Dubai Opera is a masterpiece of contemporary design and a stylish tribute to Dubai’s maritime history.

ULYSSE NARDIN Ulysse Nardin loves nature. This is the core inspiration when designing an opening event for their new boutique in Dubai Mall. The concepts are based on the freak X collection of the brand with its primary elements being “X”, skeleton, X Ray, Shark cage, sea etc.

All events of Ulysse Nardin are as unique as their watches. This uniqueness was maintained while organising and designing this event. Our primary challenge was to overcome the tight space of the boutique. Our team came out with a solution to organise the majority of the event at the atrium in front of boutique. Starting from the pitching to the execution of the event, we followed high end and sophisticated, while atmosphere trendy chic and accessible. The scope of this project was to design Boutique reveal, Dj stand and various photo opportunities for social media. Apart from physical 3d elements, this project windened my knowledge in UI/UX since it was requested by the client to create digital invite for the event. Several options for Gif invite and E-invite were produced.

GLADIATOR MEDIA DRIVE The concept of this event is based on the Gladiator from Jeep which is a symbol of freedom. Two spirits, the one of freedom and the other of the competition were the two pillars of this event. Having taken into consideration the characteristics of the invited participants and their passion for adventures, the team organizes a motor race competition between 6 groups each having 2 participants and 1 marshal. The race starts at Grapevine and the event will finish late at night after dinner. The trophy shall be awarded to the team with the highest scores after the Press conference.

The scope of this project is to design and manufacture signage, flags, press conference set up, gifts, photocall and various photo opportunity elements to promote the brand and make the event a memorable experience. The design for this project is an amalgamation of Jeep, a real offroad experience and the venue for the event which is organised in the outskirts of Hatta.

BULGARI BAROCKO Bvlgari hosted an exclusive, intimate event, at stunning Private Villa at Bulgari Hotels & Resorts in Dubai, to introduce celebrities, press and VIP clients the upscale one-of-a-kind pieces of the Barocko collection: Bvlgari’s contemporary, sophisticated and creative interpretation of Rome’s signature Baroque art and architecture movement, which was flourished in the Eternal City in the 17th and 18th century.

As the collection’s name suggests, Barocko captures the unrelenting majesty and audacious spirit of Rome’s Baroque period. Its artistic and architectural heritage meets Bulgari’s unapologetic brand of daring, culminating in one spectacular visual feast.

PHOTOWALL Despite global lockdown, in mid November, Bulgari bravely held a private unveiling of Barocko collection, the latest of its annual high jewellery collections. Barocko is as passionately extravagant as they have come to expect from this Roman jeweller and the new jewels offer a high voltage dose of exuberance and all the glamour. Barocko style and culture was achieved by using rich colourful flowers along with antique elements like mirrors and chandeliers. Background light and music too played an important role in bringing the ambiece of Baroque era.

Providing photo opportunity for the private clients wearing exclusive Barocko jerwellery was an important and priority task. The scene was designed using Baroque styled mirror, chandelier, furniture and flowers. It was a 5 day event, day and night with client arriving at different intervals. Hence it was necessary to visualise the photo opportunity during day light and at night with just the chandelier light.

CARTIER This event is about what Cartier call The High Perfumery segment. “Heures voyageuses” and “Heures de Parfum” are respectively for local (oud fragrance) and international customers. These 2 collections have been redesigned and Cartier wants to create an event in Mall Of Emirates. The concept was developed to allow the guests to experiment an inside discovery of the new design and direction of the 2 collections. The stand would take the shape of the bottle laying on the side in a framed and light way.

The new fragrances would be presented on each side with a dedicated display to immediately recognize them. The Cartier codes will be used with the bottle caps for pedestals and the bottle patterns as backgrounds. The idea with transparency is that with an elegant use of lighting inside, the Oud Mashrabiya patterns and Roman numbers specific to each would be projected onto the floor and ceiling around the stand, symbolizing flow of the different fragrances

PRIVATE VILLA Digital sketching is a trend now in interior design. It is a promise of authenticity and true artistry. Design is carried out once the floorplan and moodboard is ready. Digital sketching allows a fast representation of the space with necessary elements and colour scheme. Changes can also be made quickly as and when its required as it is worked in layers.

The 3D Floor Plan is a beautiful way to visualize how the final result can look. This helps clients make decisions and is helpful to the contractor so he or she gets an idea of what the final result should look like. I’ve noticed my clients really value the time I spent—picking up a pen and developing a creative thought—specifically for them.

The role of drawing in the design process is key – it is the catalyst, development and crucially the birth of tangible ideas. Putting pen to paper helps to articulate ideas, visualise and demonstrate function and illustrate anything that requires some sort of user interaction.

I have always been passionate about sketching on paper and now its on a whole new level of doing the same in digital platform as we are in the digital age. Its more convinient and quick tool to use.
