Stasis Building Type: Location: Project Duration: Time:
Boutique Hotel Champaign Illinois 7 weeks Fall 2018
Brief In this project, students were asked to design a boutique hotel within the heart of the city of Champaign. With multiple restrictions such as height and ground floor area, as well as keeping structure, sustainability, and program in mind, this initial draft of the boutique hotel combines the elements of entertainment, private relaxation, and social interaction.
Concept The design of this boutique hotel bases off the needs of people in this ever-growing city of Champaign. Through all of the restaurants, offices, and stores, one of the main features that this city lacks is a place of relaxation. This building is divided into three main through its program, a space for pure resting, a space for active resting, and a spae for resting with nature. The main atrium space on the west contains a large green space that connects with the first four floors, while the first two floors contain the active spaces and the guest rooms on the east are the spaces purely designed for resting. As the residents and visitors of Champaign are engrossed in their busy lives, Stasis provides them with a haven. 5

Concept The design for this boutique hotel originates from the function and structure of a spider's web. Within a web, there are three anchor points, connected by strands that support the anchor points as well as radii, which connect to the center of the web. Each of the radii are separated into a different function that stems off the three anchor points, which in this case are entertainment, privacy, and social interactions. All of those functions converge in the middle, where the large atrium lies.

Form
The three divisions within the program were formed into three different shapes to differentiate each program and show how they can coincide with one another where the green atrium space is connected to both the active and the passive spaces. The green space, as explained in the sustainability diagram, indoor green spaces have the capability of reducing stress levels, something that everyone honestly needs. Double skin facade Thermal insulation, which reduces heating demand in the winter. Provides exterior layer of shading, reducing excessive sun.

Slice Building Type: Location: Project Duration: Time:
Cafe-Bookstore Champaign, IL 6 weeks Fall 2018
Brief Within the given context, students were assigned to design a very slim cafe/bookstore hybrid. Students were challenged not just by the slim site, but also by a slight slope in the topography, as well as integrating the surrounding elements of Champaign such as types of buildings, active hours, transportation, and human circulation.
Concept Slice came from the idea of a dessert item, mainly a cake, being cut in an irregular angle. This "slice" of the facade allows for a maximum natural lighting, as that side of the design is facing South. The multiple floor slabs were also "sliced" to allow for an open area that connects all of the floors togethrer. There are also two stories of cafes, as the central concept is desserts, and there are not many cafes in the surrounding area.

Design: Living Water Logo Programs: Photoshop, Illustrator
iving ater
At the church I attend, Korean United Presbyterian Church, the ministry I am a part of is called Living Water. I created this logo in the shape of a circle to represent the earth and with a wave in the middle to represent the water. After a church-wide vote, this logo was selected. This logo is currently being used on the Living Water's website, bulletins, powerpoint slides, and potential shirts as well. Underneath the current logo on the left is another design I initially made for the logo. It uses the L and W in Living Water to create a droplet of water.

Design: Event Invitation Programs: Photoshop, Illustrator I was requested by a friend to create a drawing and invitation for her son's first birthday. In Korean tradition, the first birthday is extremely important and is celebrated by family, friends, and even strangers. I created the drawing through photoshop and finished the invitation in Illustrator with the rest of the graphics.
Design: Retreat Shirt Programs: Photoshop, Illustrator Another ministry within my church is the youth group ministry. They have an annual winter retreat and this year's theme is "Not Today Satan." This design symbolizes the light in the darkness, hence the solid black shirt with white lettering. 17
