Dolly Parton's highly anticipated visit to Belfast is part of the Backwoods Barbie European Tour 2008. Some of her best-known hits include "9 to 5", "Jolene" "Coat of Many Colours" and "I Will Always Love You" and she's had no less than 42 top-10 country albums - it's no wonder she's considered one of the all time greats!. About the singer... Dolly Parton is one of the US's best loved country music singers. She was born Dolly Rebecca Parton on Juanuary 19th, 1946, one of 12 children, in Sevierville, Tennessee. By the age of 13 she was performing at the Grand Ole Opry and after she left school she moved to Nashville. Over the years she gained huge popularity as a singer/songwriter. She won her first Grammy (she has 5 in total) for "Here You Come Again" in 1977 and made her movie Debut in "9 to 5" in 1980. She set up her own theme park, Dollywood, in 1986 and she is the head of multi million dollar Dolly Parton Enterprises. About the venue... The Odyssey Arena, Belfast's premier concert venue, is located right in the centre of Belfast, on the east side of the River Lagan in the Laganside development. It's really easy to get to. If you're walking (say from Donegall Square) just head along Chichester Street and take a left onto Victoria Street. Continue along turning right onto Ann Street. Cross at the end of Ann Street to Queen's Bridge. Tuen left and walk along the city side of the river as far as Queen Elizabeth Bridge. Cross the bridge, take a left onto Queen's Quay and continue for about 5 minutes - you'll see the entrance to the venue on the left. A regular bus service also runs from the city centre to the Odyssey Complex. The Arena is situated only about a 5 minute walk from the Laganside Bus Station via Queens Bridge or Lagan Weir. If you're driving it's only about 100 metres or so from the M3 motorway. For additional information on tickets, times etc. check out the Odyssey Arena website.
