Five Kingdoms of Life David Fan I.
Five Kingdom of Life A. Criteria 1. Complexity of cell structure- prokaryotic or eukaryotic 2. Complexity of body organization- uni or multicellular 3. Modes of nutrtition: autotrophic, heterotrophic, chemosynthetic, parasitic, or saprophytic (decomposers) B. Monera 1. All bacteria, and some unicellular algae 2. Do not have well organized nucleus 3. Nuclear material is distributed throughout cell, but no nuclear membrane or membrane bound organelles 4. Mostly prokaryotic, some eukaryotic 5. Motile or nonmotile C. Protista 1. Unicellular 2. Well defined nucleus with nuclear membrane (eukaryotic) 3. Eukaryotic 4. Motile or nonmotile 5. Three main groups; plant, animal or fungi-like 6. Examples 1. Amoeba, paramecium, euglena D. Fungi 1. Uni or multicellular 2. Eukaryotic 3. Nonmotile E. Plantae 1. All multicellular eukaryotic green plants with chlorophyll 2. Phytosynthetic, so autotrophic F. Animalia 1. All multicellular eukaryotic animals 2. Motile and heterotrophic
