Day 03
Anuradhapura – Dambulla
Anuradhapura is one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka, famous for its well-preserved ruins of ancient Lankan civilization. The ancient city, considered sacred to the Buddhist world Anuradhapura is also significant in Hindu legend as the fabled capital of the Asura King Ravana in the Ramayana.
Climb Dambulla cave temples (Approx. 400 steps) (Approx. 1 hour to visit the site)

It is the largest and best-preserved cave temple compound in Sri Lanka. There are above 80 chronicle caves around this location. The most prominent allures are advanced over 5 caves, which contain statues and paintings. These paintings and statues are depicted to Lord Buddha and his life. Dambulla Polonnaruwa UNESCO world Heritage site – Dambulla

Today you will proceed to Polonnaruwa for a full day excursion.
Polonnaruwa, which became the capital of Sri Lanka following the decline of Anuradhapura, was to witness the Sinhalese Buddhist civilization reaching to its greater heights. The vast irrigation network with reservoirs that look like natural in-land seas provided opportunities for sustained epic scales in rice cultivation, during the reign of king Parakramabahu the Great.

Village Tour
We have an interesting excursion available in Habarana, in the form of a traditional bullock cart ride. This maximum three hour program is designed for you to experience the real traditional rural village style, where you will travel in a bullock cart to a rural village through lush green paddy fields where you will be served tea and juggery along with lunch made to authentic Sri Lankan style (payments directly). Traditional cooking methods, and visit to a paddy field to see how the local farmers protect their crops from the wild animals, will be demonstrated. The finale of the excursion will be a traditional canoe ride in a lake in Habarana.

Dambulla – Kandy UNESCO world Heritage site

Today you will proceed to Kandy. En route to your destination you would visit Sigiriya Lion’s Rock.
Sigiriya Rock was once an ancient Castle used both as a palace and a fortress and was created by the great King Kasyapa. The magnificent rock fortress of Sigiriya is visible for miles from all directions and dominates the surrounding plain. The rock is surrounded by two wide moats, where crocodiles were introduced in ancient times and three ramparts. The moats and walls that surround the lower palace are still exquisitely beautiful. Lying amidst the hills, Kandy is the last capital of the ancient kings of Sri Lanka. While being the second largest city in Sri Lanka it is also famous for its immense beauty and is named as one of the seven UNESCO declared World Heritage sites in the country. With its luxuriant prairie, picturesque lake, longest river of the country and misty mountains, Kandy successfully mesmerizes every visitor unsurprisingly.

En route to your destination you will visit Elephant Transit Home in Udawalawe. Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home is a refuge for baby elephants, the majority of which have been affected by the tragic elephant – human conflict. This project provides food, medical care and anything else a baby elephant needs. When the elephants are big and strong enough, they are released back into the wilderness to start living a ‘normal’ elephant life.
Day 11
Galle
Galle Dutch Fort which is among the most popular sites in Galle where it attracts those who value archaeological reserves and heritage. It is known as the oldest fort in Asia, named as a world heritage by UNESCO. Inside the fort, travelers can find other attractions such as the Dutch Museum, which contains paintings, pictures and furniture of the Dutch Reformed Church. The fort is built on small peninsula that can be easily accessed from the Galle town. It is the best place to visit during an evening as the picturesque scenery of the sunset can be witnessed at its best. The trilingual inscription is in the National Museum in Colombo and a copy can be found in maritime museum in Galle.

This is an 8 K.M trek. Horton plains, World’s end and bakers falls trail is the most accessed trail among local travellers and foreign travellers in Sri Lanka. But the condition of the trek will be slippery and muddy most of the time, due to the weather condition prevails in Horton Plains. Travellers need to be very careful when they trek over the rocks/stones specially when there are kids. This is the usualtrail where the physical ailment will be less. Note: Guests should be prepared for extreme weather conditions like mist, wind, rain etc…

Nuwara Eliya Thotupola trekking.

11 KM trekking from the Horton Plains dormitory.
Thotupola is the third highest mountain in Sri Lanka with a height of 2359 Meters above from sea level. This trek has an elevation gain of 260 meters. Thotupola mountain trek is fairly easy though it’s one of the Highest Mountains in Sri Lanka. But some places it is difficult to find the foot path because it’s not been cleared for months and very rarely people visit this.

Nuwara Eliya Kirigalpoththa trekking
Kirigalpoththa is the 2nd highest Mountain of Sri Lanka after Pidurutalagala, with a peak Overnight at your elevation of 2,388 meters above sea level. Kirigalpoththa is the highest point in the Horton hotel in Nuwara Eliya Plains National Park and also the highest peak accessible to the public. This 7 K.M trail (one way) will take around 5 1/2 hours of trekking and hiking challenges. Attempting Kirigalpoththa is for the daring adventurers only as the conditions can be treacherous due to the difficulty of the terrain and weather. For every eight people who have reached the summit, one has always never reached the summit. A single & a slightly over grown path through grassy plains, cloud forest, and bog& finally steep rock surfaces. You may sometimes come acrossSri Lankan Leopard & Sambur deer; if you are lucky, you may even encounter a few endemic bird species as well. Day 05
Nuwara Eliya Rail hike

Pattipola to Horton Plains via Ohiya.
This 14 K.M trail starts from the Pattipola railway station (Which is the highest railway station in Sri Lanka) and continues up to Horton Plains National Park. In between this trail you will come across one special tunnel on the railway. This tunnel is the third longest (321.95m) of Sri Lanka and also the highest tunnel in the country. The tunnel is narrowed one and therefore middle point becomes very dark. The tunnel is made in 1919 and had been repaired several times.

North side of the tunnel is directed to Uva Province, Badulla District and Welimada division. And Southern end of the tunnel is directed into Central province, Nuwara Eliya district and Pattipola division, also Uva province and Welimada region subjected to the dry zone and other end is subjected to the wet zone of Sri Lanka. When you trek through this tunnel from one end to the other, you can experience this. Once you finish the 7 KM rail treks you have to do a 2 KM hike (This will be an extreme hike through the jungle) and another 5 KM trekking to Horton Plains. (Horton Plains dormitory).

Nuwara Eliya Horton Plains Babarakanda Trekking

Horton plains to Bambarakanda water fall via Udaveriya estate.
The track through the “Devil’s Staircase” is one of the most popular hiking and jeep tracks in the hills of Sri Lanka. The difficulty levels and the spectacular view of the green mountains of Sri Lanka has made this a hikers’ paradise but only the most ardent hikers will undertake this 20 KM hike.

This trail goes over old dilapidated estate roads through many estates.There are no markers along the route, therefore it’s advised to use a guide if attempting the journey for the first time. The route has number of folks and they could easily divert you from the original path. The two most popular points on the route is the “V cut”, a channel cut through the hill to allow the road to pass through. You will come across this after entering the Udaveriya estate. Passing this, the road will go across a stream which creates the tallest fall in the country, the Bambarakanda Falls. Note: You have to come down a steep trail.

Hot Air Ballooning is a relatively new activity to Sri Lanka, but in response to the ongoing search for new and exciting ways of seeing the country, it provides a remarkable experience never to be forgotten. The hilly virgin rainforest, part of the Sri Lanka lowland rain forests ecoregion, was saved from the worst of commercial logging by its inaccessibility, and was designated a World Biosphere Reserve in 1978 and a World Heritage Site in 1988. The reserve’s name translates as Lion Kingdom.
Galle Dutch Fort which is among the most popular sites in Galle where it attracts those who value archaeological reserves and heritage. It is known as the oldest fort in Asia, named as a world heritage by UNESCO. Inside the fort, travelers can find other attractions such as the Dutch Museum, which contains paintings, pictures and furniture of the Dutch Reformed Church. The fort is built on small peninsula that can be easily accessed from the Galle town. It is the best place to visit during an evening as the picturesque scenery of the sunset can be witnessed at its best. The trilingual inscription is in the National Museum in Colombo and a copy can be found in maritime museum in Galle.

Yala National Park is the most viited and second largest national park in Sri Lanka. The Park consists of five blocks, two of which are now open to the public, and also adjoining parks. The park is best known for its variety of wild animals, it is important for the conservation of Sri Lankan elephants, Sri Lankan leopards and aquatic birds. There are six national parks and three wildlife sanctuaries in the vicinity of Yala. Today would visit Bundala National Park. Starts at approx. 06:00am.
Much less visited than nearby Yala National Park, Bundala National Park is a fantastic maze of waterways, lagoons and dunes that glitter like gold in the dying evening sun. This wonderland provides a home to thousands of colourful birds ranging from diminutive little bee-eaters to memorably ugly open-billed storks. It shelters almost 200 species of birds within its 62-sq-km area, with many journeying from Siberia and the Rann of Kutch in India to winter here, arriving between August and April (December to March is the peak time). It’s also a winter home to the greater flamingo, and up to 2000 have been recorded here at one time. During December to March will be the best period to visit the park. Gal Oya National Park is a sanctuary to 32 species o terrestrial mammals. The highest populations are common Langur, endemic Toque Macaque, Elephant, Wild Boar, three species of deer an Water Buffalo.

About 150 species of birds of 334 species of Sri Lanka are seen at Gal Oya National Park. The Lesser Adjutant, Spot-billed Pelican and red Cormorant, Oriental Darter, Grey Heron and Lesser Whistling Duck are among the common water birds of the Sandanayake’ reservoir. The Whitebellied Sea Eagle, and Grey-headed Fish Eagle are the notable raptors of the area. Gal Oya National Park’s butterfly species include the endemic lesser Albatross.

Trekking in the Knuckles mountain range starts at the entry point of Gomaraya, around 60 minutes’ drive from the hotel. The final destination is 1864m above the sea level, an uphill drive. The distance from the entry point to final destination point is around 7.5km. The full trek will take 4-6hrs. Explore crystal clear water falls, endemic flora and fauna.

Colombo is the largest city and commercial capital of Sri Lanka. Located on the west coast, it is a busy and vibrant city with a mixture of modern and colonial impressions. Colombo has wildly varying architecture that span centuries and depict various styles. Many colonial buildings influenced by the Portuguese, Dutch and British exist alongside structures built in Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic, Indian and Contemporary architectural styles. No other place is this more evident in the heart of the city the Fort area. Colombo also boasts many shopping malls and department stores that offer brand name clothing at highly discounted prices.
