Brussels attacks kill at least 30 n Reuters, Brussels Jihadist group Dae’sh claimed responsibility for suicide bomb attacks on Brussels airport and a rush-hour metro train in the Belgian capital on Tuesday which killed at least 30 people, with police hunting a suspect who fled the air terminal. Police issued a wanted notice for a young man in a hat who was caught on CCTV pushing a laden luggage trolley at Zaventem airport alongside two others who, investigators said, had later blown themselves up in the terminal, killing at least 10 people. Officials said 20 died on the metro train close to European Union institutions. It was unclear still what caused the blast but a news agency linked to Dae’sh said that too was a suicide attack. The coordinated assault triggered security alerts across Europe and drew global expressions of support, four days after Brussels police had captured the prime surviving suspect in Dae’sh’s attacks on Paris last November. INSIDE
At least eight people were killed in violence centring yesterday’s Union Parishad election, marred by allegations of rigging, ballot snatching and storming of polling stations. Seven of the victims, including a woman, died in skirmishes after the polls in Pirojpur, Cox’s Bazar and Sirajganj. Sporadic clashes during the election left scores injured. The Awami League said voting was free and fair but the BNP dubbed the polls a “farce”, alleging large-scale rigging by ruling party candidates. Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad said voting was largely peaceful. Polling was suspended at 56

The border guards opened fire as per Executive Magistrate Kazi Ziaul’s order, killing at least three,” Police Superintendent Walid Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune. Mathbaria police station OC Khandaker Mostafizur Rahman said five others were injured. Two of them died while being taken to Barisal. In Cox’s Bazar, a gunfight between supporters of Awami League candidate and the renegade aspirant left one Shafik Alam, 25, dead. Bangladesh, India renew hotly contested rivalry Uddin Khan n Minhaz from Bangalore Bangladesh’s journey so far in the Super 10 phase of the 2016 World Twenty20 has been a devastating one. Rocked by fitness issues and the suspensions of strike bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Arafat Sunny, the Tigers found it hard to cope with the pressure in the middle. They have lost the first two games and when they take on hosts India today at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Tigers will hope to win it because anything else will bring an end to their story here with a game to spare.

The last time these two teams met was earlier this month in the final of the Asia Cup T20 in Dhaka where India lifted the trophy humbling hosts Bangladesh in a rain-curtailed match. Mathematically, Bangladesh still have the option of matching their ambition of playing the semi-finals of the flagship event but in reality, given the calibre of the opponents, the job will be tough. First job for Bangladesh will be to stop misfiring. Good news is the Bangladesh batsmen have been among runs and despite some struggles, they have been able to put up modest totals on the board.
