Solution: The necklace is hidden in the flowerpot. The flowers look re-arranged after the blackout, as “Icy” Jones lifted the flowers before dropping the necklace into the vase for a later pick-up.

Hide ... and go seek!
Remember running around your entire yard back in the days, when apartment complexes didn’t even come close to our idea of an abode? That is how a typical lazy afternoon is for friends, Jamal and Shagor. Growing up in a simple neighborhood in Gazipur, they don’t have many toys - but fun? There’s no lack for that in the lives of these little brats. As soon as the sun sinks a bit, the duo sets off on adventuresand goodness! Their playgrounds
can make any kid envious. Shagor and Jamal may live with their entire families in the same room, but none of the hurdles they face each day can dim their smiles. Determined to grow up as hard working individuals, they want to make life easier for their parents when they grow up. But in their words: worries are still decades away … for them, now is the time to go out and play! Tasmia Nahreen Ahmed

Do you understand the joke? The word ‘mouse’ has two meanings in English – a ‘mouse’ that is an animal and a ‘mouse’ that you find on a computer. ‘Squeak’ is the noise a mouse makes.

Personalise Your Wrists Bored of tacky, ready-made bracelets that are not exactly what you want but end up buying anyway for lack of choice? Well, no more! Here’s how to make super cool bracelets, with things that you can easily find in your own home! What You Need1. Plastic strings 3. Beads 5. Cardboard 7. Scissors
2. Buttons 4. Metal clasp 6. Coloured Pens
How to Make it: Step 1: Take small pieces of cardboard and draw and colour them in various shapes like hearts, smiley faces, flowers, etc and colour them in bright hues. Bear tiny holes at the top of the shapes. You will need them to string along the plastic thread.
Step 2: Cut out the shape with a pair of scissors. Tip: Don’t cut out the shapes too small. Step 3: Next, measure out three equal lengths of string for the actual bracelet, making sure your length is enough to cover your wrist and fix the clasp. Once you do this, fix the clasp to one end of the strings leaving the other free to string beads, buttons and the shape cutouts, arranging them in a colourful array. Step 4: Finally, attach the clasp to the other end of the bracelet and enjoy your very own, funky bracelet!
Be it a pet or a stray, when we see an injured feline lying around at home or in the streets it does break our heart. And we do want to help but we don’t know exactly how to react or how to aid a sick little meow, because even in sickness they might get defensive and attack us. Here’s what you need to know when nursing a stray cat back to health. 1. Ouchy-Bleedy Kitty If you see a lot of blood seeping out of the cat’s body then use a clean towel and put a little pressure on the wounded area, but not so much that he will freak out and scratch you or run off to hide under the table. Try to distract the cat by giving it treats or being around him while he copes with the pain. 2. Symptoms Be on the lookout for a moping cat, a whimpering one, and of course the one which is gasping and puffing heavily. These are all symptoms that the cat is injured and that may have caused depression, yowling and also fever. *If the injury is severe, don’t try to play doctor; seek professional help. 3. First aid Ask help from parents to buy first aid materials like band-
ages, gauzes, ointments for cuts, scratches and infections that are friendly to animal skin. Feed saline water if the animal dehydrated. 4. Patience Your patience and love will nurse the injured cat back to health. Therefore before Fluffy recovers, no coddling or shaking him up and down. Let the poor thing get full rest so that he can be your favourite string-chasing furball in no time. 5. What if? Suppose you, with the help of parents or vet don’t succeed in reviving an injured cat do not be disheartened. Be proud that you tried to save a life. Rubab Nayeem Khan

Science
Fireworks in a bowl You will need: • A shallow dish • Whole milk • Food colouring. • Dish soap How to make it: Pour some milk in a shallow dish (whole milk works best, but 2% isn't bad) then add some drops of food colouring. Squirt a bit of dish soap in various areas of the bowl and watch the colours move around the bowl (almost like a tie-dye effect). Why it happens: The dish soap's "grease fighting" properties cause the fat in the milk to separate out from the liquid, making the colours move. Sabiha Mahmud Sumi

A School Unlike Any Other
The Ability by M.M. Vaughan is a mystical story about twelve year old children with special abilities. The hero is a young Christopher Lane, just turning twelve years old and struggling in school. Life began to look up for Chris when he was invited to attend the prestigious Myers Holt Academy. At his new school, Christopher was amazed by all his own incredible abilities! Twelve years old is a special time for the human brain. However, whenever there is something special, there is always room for exploitation, as Chris will have to face in his new life. The Ability has both seriousness and light-heartedness. While on the one hand, there is some death and injury, however the grey shades of the characters do add dimension to the story: bad guys aren’t just evil; they have backgrounds that explain how they became the way they are.

MAGIC CUBE
One of the best brain teasers of all time, the Rubik’s Cube is a household toy in every home. Invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and professor of Architecture, Ernő Rubik, the Rubik’s Cube is a 3-D combination puzzle. It was originally called “Magic Cube” but the name was set after the inventor, the toy was released for the public. As of 2009, 350 million Rubik’s Cubes have been sold worldwide, making it the world’s top selling puzzle game. It’s also considered as the world’s best toy! A classic Rubik’s Cube usually consists of six sides, and each one of the six faces is covered by nine stickers, each one of six solid colours (white, red, blue, yellow,
WED N ESDAY, J U N E 5, 201 3
green and orange). How it works is that there is an internal pivot inside the cube, which enables the user to turn each side independently, mixing up the colours. For the puzzle to be solved, each side must be turned to only consisting of one colour. Similar puzzles are also now available with different stickers, or numbers on the sides, or even different dimensions, but a classic Rubik’s Cube is always one with six sides and the aforementioned six colours. You can find Rubik’s Cubes in any general toy store in Dhaka and the toy is priced at around Tk 250. Azfar Rahman
While on the other hand, there is a lot of humour as well. There is Rex, who is funny both accidentally and on purpose, and whose jokes are both comical and mean-spirited. There are many other instances and scenes as well that would call for a chuckle now and again. The powers the children have are cool and terrifying at the same time! This school is unlike that of Charles Xavier or Hogwarts; Myers Holt Academy trains kids in the super secret branch MI18. In this world, twelve-year-olds have unique abilities, where they can use a larger portion of their brains. They learn telekinesis, distance viewing, and mind reading/control. Sir Bentley, the head of the school, gives them lectures about using their power responsibly constantly! The Ability is a great read for those who enjoyed Harry Potter as well as The Mysterious Benedict Society! Afshan Sattar
“Battletoads” might seem similar to “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” The developers were very careful, ensuring its significant differences. For one thing they are toads, not turtles. They may be a gang of super-charged amphibious swamp-dwellers who are funny and peculiar and they may be our superheroes from the 90s, but surely they aren’t rip-offs. Zits, Rash and Pimple are humorously named after the skin conditions as they are toads. Rash, the shaded warrior, is the coolest of the bunch and wears rather a hero’s attitude confirming his position as the supreme Player 1. It seems a bit racist that Zits is brown and probably the lamest one but he can take out wider ranges of enemies. Pimple is big and strong- a bit stupid as well. His attacks are slower than others but deals more damage. Together with their totally-not-Splinter master Professor T. Bird, they fly through space, battleships, icy-caverns and do heroic stuff against the Dark Queen. She kidnaps the princess of NES and Pimple, escaping in her spaceship, hiding beneath the planet of Ragnarok. Now it’s up to our gnarly green warriors to save the princess-fighting SWAT Rats, little Scammies, and Rabid Roodolphs with series of light punches, speeding vehicles, flamethrowers in time sensitive warp zones. The difficulty is rather crippling which makes the game an instant hook for the retro-lovers. Tashhid Abdullah
