Alienated and exiled, there is absolutely nothing that soul can connect to, until it stumbles upon the most calming, consoling Ghazal record. In another world, a soul has surrendered itself to sheer jubilation. It has fallen deeply into the charms of love. Everybody is cheerful, everything feels right and everyone around is in pure harmony. This celebratory occasion somehow feels incomplete, until the soul comes across the most poetic, romantic, aesthetic Ghazal record. Both these souls are on opposite ends of the emotional pole, yet both feel a sense of wholesome connection with the wondrous appeal of Ghazal. Ghazal, a branch of classical music, is one of the most poetic forms of song. Deriving from Arabic origins, Ghazal has mostly been written in Persian, Hindi and Urdu. English Ghazal has also been written, mostly during the 19th

In the past, Ghazal mostly appealed to the upper echelon because of its complex features. Together with literary lyrics, the classical singing style also required a certain sense of familiarity. Strong vocabulary in Hindi, Urdu or Persian and trained ears are necessary for appreciating Ghazal to its fullest extent. In recent times, Hindi and Urdu Ghazal have gained great prominence. Mehdi Hassan and Jagjit Singh are considered to be the “Kings of Ghazal”. Both singers have devoted their lives to perfecting the art of singing these songs. One of the most popular singers, Lata Mangeshkar, highlighted the heavenly essence of Mehdi Hassan’s tony when he stated: “Bhagwan talks in his throat.” Jagjit Singh has revolutionised

Flipboard has got to be the most visually pleasing application in the market.
The new generation console from Microsoft has arrived By Mahmood hossain
By Mahmood Hossain Using this app is a gorgeous way of finding everything from international news to life’s most memorable moments at your fingertips. It allows you to grab and save anything you want from the web, such as stories, photos, audio recordings and more. All of your desired information is then placed into your magazine feed. With Flipboard, not only can you keep in touch with world events, but also catch up on the latest from your friends and family on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
The name Xbox One suggests a fresh start for the company. As usual, expectations are high as the race to number one begins again. The battle with Sony and Nintendo, who have provided their own sneak peaks of what is to come, is constant. But here it is, the next generation console with its large, black, fine cut design.
The controller and Kinect have also been redesigned to make the entire set look more like a home entertainment system. The main focus for Microsoft was to create the all-in-one system, which lacked in its predecessor. They have promised the Xbox One will be able to connect to TV, games and entertainment in a much better fashion. For example, they’ve given the new console response actions to hand gestures and swiping movements. With a new console, there are new games on the way exclusively for the new Xbox. In the first year alone, Microsoft plans to release eight new franchises. An example of one is the new game called Quantum Break (developers of Alan Wake). It’s more of the high-end production studio value that delivers the cinematic effect to a game.
More and more will be revealed as the months go on before the Xbox One’s release late this year. It is rumoured to be priced at $499 (over Tk40,000, not including tax or delivery charges) and leaves plenty to think about for your next generation entertainment system. What will it be? Xbox One or the PS4? Or maybe both? But what’s under the hood? The details given so far have been: • An eight-core processor and graphics made by AMD • 8GB of RAM • Blu-Ray • USB 3.0, HDMI in/out • 500GB hard drive • A yet to be seen new operating system mixing Xbox and Windows

Designed by Winifredo Camacho, a lead designer for Mercedes Benz, the E250 follows in the footsteps of its younger sibling, the C-class. Similarities from past generations include the twin headlamps and rear fender lines. The car is definitely attractive and undeniably modern, utilising plenty of details to evoke a presence uniquely Mercedes. The exterior is matched by the cabin, with a clean, logical and elegant layout. Quality is superb, thanks to the textured surfaces, trimmings and materials. Plunk yourself down on any of the seats and revel in the comfort
By Tahsin Momin they afford. The new range of 4-cylinder petrol engines is top class, as the E250’s new power plant produces a hefty 204 horsepower from only 1.8 litres of displacement. Step on the throttle and the E250 responds, taking it from 0-100kph in just 7.8 seconds. The transmission is a 5-speed auto, which performs quite well and rounds out a very fuel-efficient power train combo. As for the level of safety, PRE-SAFE is at the top of the list. In potentially hazardous situations, this feature activates precautionary protective measures to enhance collision
survivability. The car also features Direct Control suspension with selective damping system. In other words, the E250 will soften up for poor road conditions, or attune itself on a winding mountain road to brilliantly belie its weight and size. It may not be what most E-Class buyers were looking for, but with a suspension, chassis and engine that come together beautifully, it is definitely easy to balance on the limit and let dance on four wheels. The new BMW 5-Series may be just around the corner, but with all these options and more in the MercedesBenz E250, it’s clear that the gold standard is back, and in top form.

Designer’s day out “Slumdog Millionaire” shot her to fame overnight and there seemed to be no looking back for Freida Pinto. At the 66th Cannes film festival that just concluded on the French Riviera, she sizzled the red carpet, turning many a head, just like she did years ago on the catwalk. Dressed in a creation by world famous fashion designer Sanchita Ajjampur from Bangalore in India, Freida kept the shutterbugs busy By Veejay Sai Veejay Sai is an award-winning writer, editor and a culture critic from India. Her managers in LA had a tough time picking the right kind of dress for the occasion. Day one she strutted down in a pink gown by Gucci and the next day she decided to turn desi. Adorning herself with a “Glid web gown’”designed by Sachita, she stood out as the best the international press got at the whole event. “This is an ensemble piece. I had to keep in mind a whole lot of things while making it. We worked on a surrealistic idea, classic yet funky to complement Freida’s unconventionally classy personality. The concept was to create the entire dress from a gilt mesh web entwined with bejewelled dragonflies to create a dramatic, fantasy-like appeal, complete with dragonfly hair accessories. We wanted to bring into play our rich craftsmanship, to translate it into a more graphic, light and fluid contemporary aesthetic, working with techniques from our archive to develop the gilt mesh web”, says Sanchita, giving all the intricate details of her creation. Sanchita and Freida met three years ago and bonded over their fine tastes. Sanchita herself is an internationally renowned designer who shuttles out of India, Paris and Milan. The cultural experiences and influences of different places that she has lived in have left an indelible imprint on Sanchita’s creative spirit, infusing her collections with an innovative and eclectic flavour. “Frieda Pinto is undoubtedly one of the planet’s most stylish women. She has a raw, instinctive, minimalistic style. Her sartorial elegance and neutral features make her the subcontinent’s most famous face on the global radar and a fashion force to be reckoned with”, adds Sanchita of Freida’s style sensibilities.
Freida extended the dragonfly theme to her tresses which she pinned into a low bun and accented with jewelled dragonfly accessories. She finished the look with Jimmy Choo adorning her feet and a Swarovski clutch. It’s not just Freida who is wearing ‘sanchita’. Her Beau and colleague from “Slumdog”, Dev Patel has also started to wear the designer brand after Freida picked one of Sanchita’s signature men’s cardigans, in jersey and muslin, for him. Over the years the Cannes festival has grown to be the Oscars of the European world. Scores of film-makers, artistes, actors, producers, writers, critics and the like, throng to the event. This year out of the big contingent that sailed from the Indian shores, Freida stood out as that one face that made the big news and along with her, Sanchita. Three cheers to lady luck!

The constant reminder of how everything needs to fit should never escape your mind By Mahmood Hossain
1.Type of fits:
•Slim – Tight around your back side and thighs. Appropriate for a thin body type •Regular –slimmer around your backside and thighs (a little more breathing room), loose in the legs. Appropriate for athletic and thin body types •Relaxed – Loose in the backside and thigh without looking baggy. Appropriate for heavy-set and athletic gentlemen •Loose – Very loose and baggy all around. Appropriate for athletic body type
Photo: Big Stock
It’s the first rule to consider if you want to achieve a smart and sharp look. This rule applies to everything you wear, even when shopping for the right pair of jeans. For some, this can be a daunting task. Not to worry, here we provide a simple guide to buying the right pair of jeans.
2.Type of cuts:
•Boot cut – This tapers to the knee and slightly flairs at the bottom
Q: I always thought older men don’t look too flattering in denim. My father is in his late 40s and he insists on wearing jeans. Can you please state he should give them up?
•Skinny leg – A tight fit throughout the leg, best for slim fit and thin body types •Wide leg – Where the seat, thigh, and leg are loose. The leg is straight and a bit tapered from the thigh to the ankle
By Mahmood Hossain
•Straight leg – From top to bottom a uniform fit. There’s no flare or taper at the bottom •High rise – Sits right on the natural waistline which is more suitable for a short body type •Low rise – This sits just below the waistline, which suits tall, thin and athletic build
Photo: Big Stock
Now, you’ve got the basics down and can confidently head out to find the perfect pair, while avoiding those ill-fitted jeans. And gentlemen, stay away from skinny jeans, that’s no longer appropriate for any body type
A: Don’t be silly. It’s true, more men of that age prefer trousers over denim, but that doesn’t mean they’re not allowed to wear jeans or that they shouldn’t. The fit has a lot to do with how jeans look on older gentlemen. As a man gets older, his level of sophistication should escalate. There’s nothing wrong with a man in his late 40s wearing jeans, as long as everything else fits a classy look. But to keep things fair, it’s a healthy style choice to change things up from time to time. Reaching out for chinos wouldn’t hurt.

Hitting the links Photo: Big Stock
No, we’re not talking about a relaxing , 18 holes afternoon at the local golf club. This is about the timeless, classy accessory: the cufflink
Q: My fiancé keeps telling me to ditch underwear or briefs and get more boxers. She says that’s manlier, what should I do?
By Mahmood Hossain Those with French cuffs should already be familiar with these sophisticated objects. We’ve come a long way from the reign of Louis XIV, a time when the “boutons de manchette” were popularised. As the centuries have gone by, the modern cufflink has become a simple button fastener, and something so small and simple has transformed in various ways over
the years. Whether it’s a novelty, traditional, contemporary, utility or even humorous cufflink, there is something for everyone. With so many colours and shapes, it comes down to the gentleman wearing the accessories to decide whether he wants to be taken seriously or to simply have fun. An evening event always calls for a more
You can find quality cufflinks in stores like Artisti, the prices can range from Tk800 to Tk2,000 mature touch to the cuffs. Let’s not forget the office hours. As the hotter days are upon us, silk knots or elastic fabric knots (an alternative fastener) will definitely add more character to your look. Whether you prefer knotted fabric or dumbbell (shank-style) cufflinks, cuffs will always be considered a smart addition to your outfit.
Style Tip Remember, there is no need for extravagant pieces. The ones that matter are the ones that match your outfit.
A: I’m not sure how hostile your fiancé can be, but what you choose to put on as underwear has nothing to do with how manly you are. Please let her know that. Look at celebs like David Beckham. His underwear ads (recently for H&M) are plastered on billboards around the world. Is he less of a man because of that? Don’t think so. Whatever you feel comfortable in is what matters most. Some men will wear boxers in casual clothing and briefs for when they suit up. It’s recommended to keep your options open and the fiancé at bay.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS The four things people immediately notice about your hair By Su Jorgensen Your guy may not notice if you’ve only had your hair trimmed half an inch, but trust me, he definitely notices your hair. A survey was done by a few gents (and ladies) on the first few things people notice about your hair. YOUR LENGTH Whether it’s long, short or inbetween, one of the first things people notice about your hair is its length. Remember, first impressions are what people use to form opinions about you, so length does matter. Short and sassy may imply strength and confidence, while super-long locks give off a feminine vibe. YOUR ROOTS One of the first things men and women notice about your hair, believe it or not, is your roots and whether or not they are in dire need of a touch-up. If you’re dyeing your hair, make sure you stay on top of maintaining the colour by scheduling appointments every six to eight weeks. If you have 70% or more gray hair, you may even

want to take an appointment every four to five weeks. Letting your roots get out of control sends the message that you don’t pay attention to details and are a little lazy about your appearance. YOUR CLEANLINESS It’s a hot, sweaty humid day and you want to skip a hair wash? YES, everyone can tell! Oily roots rank high on the list of things people first notice about your hair. If you’re really in a hurry and have run out of time, spray some dry shampoo on your roots to soak up some of the oil. If you don’t have any, use talcum/baby powder, or try a hat. YOUR STYLE Whether it’s short and sassy, a fringe or long and layered, your actual hairstyle is something people notice of. Combined with your hair’s length, it’s also something people use to judge your personality. A complicated hairstyle may send the message that you’re high maintenance, while a more relaxed style tells people you’re easy going.

Timeless treasures A traditional Katan saree with glass bangles and a bindi instantly has us envisioning a classic Bangali beautythe epitome of femininity. Blessed to be born as women, it’s time we embrace our roots when it comes to fashion By Hiroe Kunimoto Even if you’re not a “saree person,” you DO need a few in your closet to get all decked out once in a while. Here are the three all-time classics: Muslin Muslin sarees can be a tough choice! To be honest, they don’t suit everyone. Although I don’t have one, I definitely vote for them. When choosing a muslin saree, you have to make sure to pick the right colours and patterns. Consider the features of this fabric: fluffy and difficult to make into perfect folds. In this case, it’s best to go for
AVEN U E T TH U RS DAY, J U N E 6 , 201 3
a darker colour. While pastels look delicate and are soothing on the eyes, these colours might make you look heavier than you really are (unless you’re a size 0) Colours like emerald, black, royal-blue, orange and fuchsia are some of the best choices when it comes to muslin. In fact, emerald is a trendy colour worldwide this year. Pick a version embroidered with a lighter beige thread to ensure you have the perfect contrast. Jamdani Even a non-fashionista has at least one jamdani saree in her wardrobe.
The current trending colours in this case are red and gold, royal-blue and multi-colours. Traditionally, jamdani sarees were worn in one solid shade with a contrasting border. Lately, the borders are rare and different shades of brilliant colours. Go have a look for yourself at Bashundhara City or Bailey Road. KatANn A personal favourite one can never go wrong with is the katan saree. The basic white katan with a red border reminds us of the leading characters in Tagore’s classics. However, keeping
up with the times, katan sarees have evolved and are available in bolder hues. Colours like shocking pink, turquoise-blue, mustard, ocean-green, and red with light golden “kolka” patterns are the perfect choice. The borders should be very thin or medium-sized. Mirpur Polli Market has the widest range of katan sarees available in Dhaka. Hiroe kunimoto is a brand executive for Apex Adelchi Footwear Ltd.

Make-up is a fun way of expressing your unique sense of style and personality. However, it seems people always have a rule or restriction to abide by when it comes to applying make-up. In reality, a lot of what you hear is actually pure make-up myth. This week, we will be busting these myths and separating the facts from fiction! By Tilat Khayer
Myth : Concealer should always be lighter than your foundation Fact: A lighter shade of concealer accentuates the under-eye darkness and makes it look even worse. Your concealer should match your skin-tone exactly to disguise the darkness effectively. If under-eye darkness is excessive, you might want to try a “colour corrector” to neutralise the discolouration. When using concealer, it must be well-blended and applied on top of the base.
Myth: Blush should be applied to the hollows of your cheeks. Fact:: The purpose of blush is to give your face a healthy colour, not definition. To make sure your blush is applied correctly and in the right area, smile and brush onto the apples of your cheeks, brushing backwards toward your hairline.
Contour powder can be used to add shape, enhance cheekbones or to make your face appear thinner.
Myth: Red lipstick is not for everyone Fact: Anyone can wear red lipstick. You just need to find the right shade of red to suit your skin tone and colour. Wearing a red lip tint is a more conservative option, as is applying lip colour and matting it down with a tissue to soften the strong effect of red.
Myth : Match your foundation to your cheek or hand Fact: Due to exposure and environmental stress, the skin on your face tends to be slightly different in colour than the rest of your body. Foundation that matches your neck will be the best blend to seamlessly match all exposed areas of skin. Test stripes of foundation on your jawline in natural light to find your best match.

Make-up myths decoded
Myth : Pump your mascara wand to get rid of clumps Fact: Pumping the mascara wand actually just pumps air into the tube, causing the formula to dry out faster and clump more. A more effective way of getting mascara onto the brush is by turning the wand inside the tube, and then gently pulling it out. Because mascara is a breeding ground for bacteria, it is recommended that you do not share it with anyone else. Myth : Spray mineral water or toner on make-up to set or refresh it Fact: A mist of water or toner can streak foundation, powder and mascara. If you insist on using a toner to refresh your make-up, the correct way to do so would be to take a cotton pad soaked in toner (alcohol-free) and remove the top layer of worn out foundation or concealer. This won’t remove it completely, but will give you a cleaner, smoother surface to re-apply make-up on. Photos Shekhar Mondal During the glorious era of the Mughal rule in the nineteenth century, jamdani (aka muslin) was only worn by aristocrats and royalty, as its rich fabric required intense labour that made it unaffordable for most. In the beginning, women interested in crafts began stitching floral designs in handkerchiefs, and this design went on to become the heritage of Bangali ethnicity. The Victoria and Albert Museum of London displayed the collection of jamdani’s motifs as a representation of high status in society. In this modern era, jamdani still holds the heritage of Bangladesh. The technique of weaving jamdani’s patterns is not digitalised. The weaver draws the designs on paper, or sometimes the designs appear in his/her mind. The artist develops a personal concept of design that tells its own story when weaved into a simple frame. The traditional weaving technique is preferred by many weavers, who find it within their comfort zone
when working with the familiar patterns and colours of jamdani fabric. The weaving process of the handloom is intricate and repetitive, with a weft thrown across bamboo sticks for hours to form the motif. From working with bamboo and thread to getting the right colour contrast and perfect motifs, it takes 10 to 12 days to create one jamdani saree. One of the highlights of Joyeeta is the exclusive, traditionally designed jamdani saree. Joyeeta promotes the local weavers by providing them a common platform to do business on, as well as ensures
a fairer deal for the artisans by preventing the need for a middleman. The jamdani saree emphasises excellent quality and holds the legacy of Bangladesh. The handloom product jamdani that comes from Rupgonj is adored for its modern trend. With a rich history and artistic background, this ornamental fabric is so expensive that many customers hesitate to purchase it. As one of the passionate entrepreneurs from Joyeeta, Rabita Shahida Islam says that: “There are differences between an original jamdani fabric and a nylon fabric with jamdani motifs. It’s impossible to buy a jamdani saree for only Tk2,000, as the quality and count of thread, the sophisticated artwork and the intensive manufacturing process make it one of the most expensive sarees. To hold the heritage of Bangladesh, it is important to feel passion for its local products and to value the local artisans.” The jamdani saree is designed
in geometrical patterns. The golden zari – the red, finest fabric of jamdani sarees which is painstakingly designed into a saw net ¬– is sold at Tk18,000. The sea-green saree contrasted with the purple, grape flower motifs is sold at Tk14,000. Paste coloured sarees with jasmine flower motifs are sold at Tk9000. The figure of a duck with multiple colours (mostly purple, yellow and green) is worth Tk10,000. This type of artwork is disappearing with time, as is the business of selling jamdani. Holding onto the legacy is now difficult, as people’s styles and trends are changing from one generation to the next. Most jamdani weavers are now switching to other professions to earn money. In order to maintain and further develop the industry, we must realise that jamdani is an artistic asset of Bangladesh, whose beauty must be preserved.
These gorgeous and traditional Jamdani Sarees, along with exquisitely designed Silver Jewelleries are available at stall B19, level 5, Rapa Plaza, Road - 27 (Old), Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

Tell Letters to Mars
Letters to Venus
Not tonight I’m a 40-year-old married man with two children. For the past six months, it has become increasingly difficult for me to initiate intimacy with my wife. Every time I try, she comes up with an excuse. We never really discuss this issue, but I would like to know what’s wrong. This is quite a common phenomenon in a couple’s dynamic, especially after having children. Habits are formed very quickly, and children take all the attention and energy away from intimacy. Men start looking at their women as “the mothers” of their children, rather than the women they love. Soon, bitterness is felt by both parties. The husband’s attention moves towards his career, and the wife withdraws as she feels unloved and uncared for, as though she were part of the furniture in the husband’s eyes... Start courting your woman: 1) Make time to spend an afternoon with your wife doing what you both
Dead end
I’m a 24-year-old woman in a relationship with a 28-year-old man for the past two years. He lives in Sylhet and I live in Dhaka, but he visits often and we stay in touch through text messages, phone calls and Skype. Lately, he has been blowing me off very easily. He rarely calls or texts, and doesn’t try to work things out when we have huge arguments. It seems like he doesn’t even want to make this relationship work. I feel unimportant and insignificant, and he does not seem bothered. Should I break up? -I
like. It could be going to a cafè chatting or reading the paper, but it must be away from the children. Get to know each other again. 2) When you come home from work, look for her in the house. Give her a little peck on the cheek before you move your attention elsewhere. 3) Before changing into your pajamas, sit down, have a cup of tea and spend a few minutes chatting about the day with her. 4) Do not suddenly think “I have tried enough” and then try to be intimate with her. Instead, try to reach out to the person you married by looking at her with the glowing memory of your early days. The beautiful, fun-loving girl you fell in love with is still there, she and you just got lost in the events of life. 5) Basically, do something different if you want to achieve a different result: win her back and make her “your girl.” 6) The more she feels you treat her as your girl, the more she will respond.
Well my dear I, it seems he is sending you the signals: the relationship is over for him. Of course, if this behaviour has only lasted a few days or weeks, you may excuse it as tension from work or family matters. Even then, however, his behaviour makes him seem like someone who does not have the courage to say the relationship is over.
Take courage and discuss it with him. Tell him that you cannot go on with this type of behaviour, and that you set him free. Do not continue to suffer. Tell yourself you may be saved from a potentially unhappy marriage. Remember, when one door closes, a bigger and better one opens up. Have faith.

Parenting
In most households, children give their parents separate identities. Children under the age of five are particularly prone to designating separate roles towards their parents. While they approach one parent when they are hungry, hurt or tired, they usually approach the other when they are full of energy and in the mood for fun. Around the age of two, children begin to make this distinction and demand one parent for certain tasks. For instance, some children prefer being fed by their mother. This is where you should introduce the
AVEN U E T TH U RS DAY, J U N E 6 , 201 3
concept of taking turns: “It’s papa’s turn to feed you.” Let your daughter know she has choices. It seems this is the case in your family as well. You must understand that this does not mean your daughter loves you less, neither does it mean that one of you is better at parenting than the other. The beauty of dual parenting lies in the unique gifts each of you bring to your daughter. Regardless of the ideals you and your husband share, you will never be the same type of parents. Keep in mind that this is a gift for your child, as she benefits from having parents that love her and each other. Having two individuals to guide her through life will improve her problem-solving skills later in life. We all want to read how others find ways to live more comfortably.

I am the mother of two children: a three year-old daughter and a five year-old son. Whenever my daughter is hurt, angry or upset about something, she calls for her father. When it comes to consolation, she never looks for me or wants me to console her. This makes me wonder if I am doing something wrong. What can I do to gain an equal importance in her life?

Protect your uterus! According to country-specific data sources, over 7 million women in Bangladesh suffer from uterine fibroids. In fact, up to 80% of women have fibroids by the time they reach age 40. Uterine fibroids are benign muscular tumours that can grow from a few centimetre large up to the size of a grapefruit in the uterus. While they are usually not serious, they can cause severe symptoms such as heavy bleeding, pelvic and back pain, vaginysmys (muscular contractions of the vagina which cause sex to be uncomfortable and painful), constipation and urinary frequency. In severe cases, they can prevent pregnancy from taking hold and may require a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus.) Recently, gynecologists have found promising links between vitamin D levels and the incidence of uterine fibroids. Studies show
that women with higher vitamin D levels have a 32% lower risk of getting fibroids. If you were to think of fibroids as weeds, vitamin D would be the weed killer that prevents them from growing. While it cannot eliminate the weeds already in place, the vitamin will kill off any seeds implanted in the fertile environment of the uterus before they grow ominously large and cause discomfort. If you have a genetic predisposition towards developing uterine fibroids or simply want to take precautions against them, make sure to meet your daily requirements for vitamin D, which can be found in foods like tuna, salmon, fortified cereals, cheese and other dairy products. If your meals are not nutritious enough, you can always get the vitamin in supplement form. The Institute of Medicine recommends 600 units a day of vitamin D for women, and no more than 1,000 units a day

to prevent kidney stones. Protect your uterus by following a healthy diet and ensuring your body gets its daily dose of vitamin D.
Yoga
Anantasana The Anantasana, or side-reclining leg lift, is a yoga pose that focuses on your core. Its benefits include stretching the backs of the legs and sides of the torso, as well as toning the belly Directions Lie on the floor, on your right side Press your right heel and flex your ankle, using the outside area of your foot to balance your position Stretch your right arm outwards so that it is parallel to your torso. You must create the illusion of a long line that extends from your heel to your fingers Bend your right elbow and place your palm under your head, supporting it Slide your elbow away from your waist, stretching the armpit
Rotate your left leg in a manner that makes your toes point upwards. Then, bend your knee and bring it towards your torso Using your index and middle fingers, hold the left big toe by reaching across the inside of your leg. Strengthen your grip by wrapping your thumb around your two fingers
Press through both heels and stay in the pose for 30 seconds to a minute Release the leg, taking a few breaths, and roll over to your left side. Repeat
Inhale and extend your leg upwards towards the ceiling The left leg may be slightly angled, while your behind may drop back. Place your pelvis firm against the sacrum. This will allow you to move your leg backwards towards a perpendicular position

Stuffed chicken breast with mozzarella and capsicum sauce
Naorose Ali is the chef of Cilantro. He gained his culinary expertise from Australia.
Chicken breasts are a prime item on most people’s dinner lists. Tender, easy to cook, and full of flavour, the regular chicken breast can easily be turned into a delicious meal with the right ingredients. Here’s my take on the quintessential chicken breast. Not only is this potent dish very easy to bake, but it incorporates the mushy goodness of mozzarella and the strong tang of red capsicums to make it a foodie’s delight. Enjoy! The magic of olive oil AvenueT brings you a host
of ways to make the best use of olive oil. Whether it’s used for polishing furniture or putting a stop to your husband’s snoring habits, olive oil is the magic cure to all troubles
Ingredients
• 500 g Chicken breast • 50 g Mozzarella cheese • 1 slice of beef bacon • 2-3 thinly sliced, red capsicum • 15ml oil • Paprika, to taste • Salt and pepper, to taste • Oregano, pinch • Vegetables of your choice*
Red Capsicum Sauce • 2 whole capsicums • 1tsp tomato paste • Oregano, to taste
AVEN U E T TH U RS DAY, J U N E 6 , 201 3
Direction:
Rub the chicken breast with salt and pepper. Take a knife and make a small pocket in the centre of the breast. Stuff in the mozzarella and thinly sliced, red capsicums. Thoroughly rub the chicken with paprika, salt and pepper. Neatly wrap the beef bacon around the chicken breast. Brush the oil around the chicken breast. Heat up the grill, seal off both sides of the chicken, and cover it with a small bowl to let cook for 10 minutes or until done.
Meanwhile, roast the two capsicums for the sauce. Put them in a food processor along with some tomato paste and oregano and blitz the mix through. Adjust the amount of oregano and tomato paste according to your taste. Your capsicum sauce is ready. Neatly plate up the chicken, pouring a small amount of the capsicum sauce on the side. Your meal is ready to be devoured. *You may sauté vegetables or rice and serve as a side dish.
•Polishing: To make your dull furniture shine, add a teaspoon of olive oil and vinegar to a cloth and use it to wipe your furniture clean •Removing stubborn stains: Rub or spray olive oil on cutlery, cups or even plates to get rid of stubborn stains •Lubricate a tough zipper: If your zipper won’t budge, rub olive oil into the zipper using a cotton swab. Gently push the tab upwards until it loosens up •Put a stop to snoring: Having a tablespoon of olive oil before going to bed helps lubricate the throat muscles and may help stop snoring •Clean brass/steel: If you have any brass or steel handles/bars that have become dull with time, use a cotton cloth soaked in a teaspoon of olive oil to shine them. Not only does this bring a clean glow, but it also prevents corrosion and tarnishing •Silence noisy door hinges: Lubricate squeaky door hinges with a generous helping of olive oil to stop the noise •Shine your shoes: A great alternative to shoe polish is olive oil. Spray one spritz of olive oil on your leather shoes to help retain their shine •Cure an earache: To rid your ears of excess wax and cure earaches, dab a cotton bud with olive oil and very gently clean your outer ear

Revamping your room These cotton curtains can be found in Aarong and come in different designs, such as leaves, dots and flowers. For a small bedroom, striped patterns can make your space visually intriguing, While vertically-oriented stripes can give height to a small room, single-striped curtains add focus to the room itself. If you feel like getting creative, you can design your own curtains with simple, light fabric. After tailoring the fabric according to the size of your window, you can dye it any colour you prefer (even more than one), and stamp it with block prints, or stitch in different designs to add style to your room.
A new set of curtains can either give your room a makeover, or it can give it a completely disastrous look. Windows being the focal point of a room, there’s no better way to tranform your room than with the help of beautiful draperies By While choosing curtains for your bedroom, there is a wide range of styles to choose from. The first thing to decide on is what kind of theme you want to give your space. In summer, if your wall is painted white, you should go for white curtains thin enough to cool the room. For a couple’s bedroom, you may opt for frilly, elegant drapes in a range of colours. Such curtains can be found at Classical Hometex in Dhaka and will not fail to create a classy mood or romantic atmosphere in your bedroom. To beautify your window, you can also go with embroidered, bold-coloured curtains that have an effect on the entire space.

Bathing your rabbit
Photos: Big Stock
Note: For a healthy rabbit, its advisable to give your bunny a bath at least twice a week.
Nothing can unsettle rabbits like a bath. Some argue that pet rabbits don’t require baths, but truth be told, the dust and grime of Bangladesh make rabbits excessively dirty. Some pet owners use soft, wet towels for stain treatment, but this doesn’t completely clean the rabbit By N Anita Amreen ] Begin by filling your bathtub or a large bowl with a few inches of lukewarm water so that your rabbit cannot climb out ] Check the water’s temperature with your elbow. Adjust the temperature if necessary ] Since rabbits are afraid of the noise of running water, fill a second bowl with lukewarm water and place it aside ] Very gently, place your rabbit into the bathtub. If it begins jumping around frantically, gently yet firmly hold it down ] Gently pour the lukewarm water from the second bowl down the rabbit’s sides, making sure not to get its ears, nose or eyes wet (avoid soaking the rabbit’s head in water) ] Using gentle strokes, rub rabbit
shampoo into its body, especially its paws and bottom ] Very carefully wash the shampoo off its body using the water reserved in the bowl ] Even if the rabbit resists, make sure you remove all the shampoo from every part of its body. Rabbits tend to lick themselves clean, so any shampoo that you don’t clean off will be ingested by your rabbit and may lead to stomach trouble ] Once you have rinsed your rabbit, wrap it in a towel and place it in a box or secluded spot to blow-dry ] Blow-dry your rabbit from a distance, and do not allow it to venture outside unless it is completely dry ] Once dry, give it some time alone to groom itself

The Green Line bus would be our recommended mode of travel to reach Banderban. From the port city of Chittagong, it takes about 2 hours and around 10 hours to go from Dhaka. We would recommend tourists from Dhaka, to take the overnight Green Line Executive Bus.
