Hello, and welcome to my vision! I am a young, passionate guy from Slovakia and I tend to be an architect. Looking for my place like many others, I decided to try a new existence outside my country. First of all, to get out from my comfort-zone and find new challenges in life but also because of the adventure. This is a presentation of my works and overall activities since I began my long journey through the world of architecture. What regards my overall characterization, it would be: reliable, communicative, hard-working, fast-learning, can work within a team but as an individual as well, can contribute to the projects with my thoughts and ideas. I like to avoid uniformity and try to collect inspiration from various sources - not only buildings or objects, but people, moods or events. I believe that everything is a possible topic and a part of a possible story.
philosophy
My process of creating architecture is a mixture of intuitive and conscious design based on observation, meditation and research. In my opinion the role of architectural practice is not just to build, but also to teach, form the society and our future. An architect has to be a polyhistor - a thinker, a historian, a musician, a poet, a sculptor and a teacher - an individual. Our task is to form human environment - and this environment forms the people. We must create values. This seems to be as an impossible and idealist task, but we have to believe, we can do our best to achieve it. Buildings are not machines for living - they are the environment which forms us and defines us. We should never forget about the human factor. Architecture has to support humanity and nature, has to create balance between them and fight uniformity. If we take architecture as an artform, we are the closest to ruthless materialism, which greatly affects our work and is trying to lead and shape us. We should not let this to happen , so we have to find balance but never give up our ideals and our beliefs.

hybrid flathouse
This project is one of my earliest works during my studies. The mission was to design a hybrid system flat house for the countryside. I chose a style which is typical for the territory I come from and tried to use organic floors - similar to ones typical in hungarian architecture. The exterior is trying to copy conservative, traditional values, whilst the flats are designed for higher, contemporary standards. The mass of the building is curved, so it closes the backyard, which is connected to the forest. The C shaped garages are closing the site from the sides, giving protection and intimacy. The flathouse was intended to be used by families with more children - giving them enough social and private space. Each flat has its own entrance - the maisonette flats on the first floor have their own stairs as well. This project was the beginning of a search for a style, which is trying to be unique in some way, but also have high qualities in its function.

porsche showroom
This was the first commercial project planned during my studies. The projects is located in the outskirts of Bratislava, in a commercial region. It was an attempt to explore the possibilities of dynamic structures, which were meant to express the function of the object - sale of luxury sportcars - simple, dynamic shapes were used which create a harmonic composition. The sheet-like mass closes the administrative and presentation spaces, the glazed showroom is for presenting the cars. Most of similar showrooms in Slovakia are dull with no architectural value, but I think - especially if its about luxury vehicles - the building should express the function it is made for.

aquapark
This project has been planned to an unusual location - an old abandoned quarry in the outskirts of Bratislava. The task was to create a leasure complex inside one of the quarries. For this purpose i have chosen the larger one, which had a lake in it. It seemed as a perfect location for an aquapark - connecting the natural with the artificial. As the project was being planned, the number of functions began to raise - fitness centre, squash centre, two restaurants, a bar and different leasure facilities were added. The general design of the structure is trying to shape waterfalls with the usage of natural forms like stones, rocks, minerals. Artificial waterfalls also appear on the facade, symbolising the idea of the project. The rooftops function as terrasses and public spaces for visitors. Working on such a large-scale project helped me to learn how to organize complex dispositions and to connect various functions within a chaotic spacial design.

church restoration
In the heart of the historical city Komárno lies a baroque catholic church, which in the meantime functions as an art gallery. The task was to create an extension to the existing historical building . In the past, a monastery was connected to the church, but after the IIWW it has been demolished and new buildings appeared on its place. The idea behind the project was to recreate the stylized version of the monastery within the limited space given. The new shape was created based on the foundations of the monastery - the former inner cout has been restored, which is has become a public space. The stylized frames are based on the former section of the old structure and open up the inner court. The function of the church remained as an art gallery, which is now supported by the wing an art café and administration of the facility. The stylized nature of the extension is respecting the former urban composition but separates itself as well.

science centre
This experimental project is located in the centre of Bratislava - a heavily damaged urban space. The building is not harmony with its environment, but it was a purpose based on the function. A science centre focusing on modern technology - virtual reality. The shpae itself symbolises the 3+1 dimensions known - x,y,z and time. These 3+1 lines create the shape and meet in point 0, which is also where the entrance is located. The outer shell creates a media facade with the help of pixels lit by led diodes - each pixel can change its color by night, by day it produces electrical energy thanks to built-in photovoltaic elements. This gives a lot of opportun ities to change the visual of the building and is also ecological. The large water areas are used for climatization. Inner spaces are flexible for technological evolution, there is enough space for permanent and seasonal exhibitions as well. The placement of the complex respects the pedestrian routes.

visitors centre - final ba project
???
The location of this object is very special - a well preserved baroque garden in Kromeriz, Czech Republic. The task was to create a visitors centre in the premises of the garden, right next to the tropical greenhouse. The basic structure consists of atypical wooden frames, creating an organic shape, which reflects the environment and communicates with it. The wooden construction has its module from the baroque colonade on the shorter side of the garden, which is connected to the building by an open-air route. Inside the structure, these rhytmical columns also appear, strenghtening the wooden frames and creating a promenade in the main hall which connects all the different functions. An information desk, a café, shops, library, offices and a lecture hall were requested by the administrators of the garden. The lecture hall is located in the basement and covered by the lowest part of the structure.

The idea behind the form was to create a natural, greenhouse-like building, which separates itself from the baroque environment but also gets into harmony with it. The accented element covers the main entrance and also reflects the original rotunde, which is located on the opposite side. The modules of the columns are matching. Getting a lot of sunlight was also an issue, but it was important to add shading devices to the top of the glazing. Wooden constructions always inspired me, i would like to explore the possibilities of wood in architecture and widen the field of its use. This project has been awarded with the first place on the competition abf bakalar slovakia in 2009 and was part of various exhibitions in Slovakia.

agora public library
This project has been created during my studies in Essen, Germany. The site was located in an eclectic block in the centre of the city Bielefeld but here I only present the study for the public library out of its context. The name agora has been derived from the greek term for gathering place. In this case the inner court creates public space for visitors, which is closed by the U shape of the building. The spacial arrangement of the interior is flexible thanks to the quadratic construction system, which is in contrast with the outer shell itself. The form tends to be a stylized deformation of ancient classical facades. The outer shell is covered with rusty steel panels and the edges separating the faces are slotted with light sources installed inside. In context, the building would be an extension of the old public library, where all the administrative functions would be located. The concept could be used for any cultural purpose as a solitaire.

cultural centre - final msc project
Located on the same site as the library Agora, this cultural complex fills the “gap” , which is surrounded by various buildings from different periods. The nature of the “gap” leads us to a specific Z shape in order to recreate the original urban form of the block. The eclectic environment has different functions, from retail to a telecommunication centre, an unused post-office and the city library. The idea was to connect the library with the new centre and also add the unused post-office and create a cultural backbone for the city. The post-office gets a new function art school, which is supported by the new building, which is created by 3 parts - public gallery and theatre, the academic library and lecture hall and the corridor, which connects them all. The basic scheme for the whole concept contains 5 stations of creation: getting information - education - the process of creation - presentation of work and the idea, which connects them all.

These 5 stations appear in the general design of the structure as well. You get information at the library, get education in the school, create in the studios of the new building, present them in the gallery or theatre but first of all have a general idea which connects them all - the corridor. At the creation of the shape I was using simple geometrical forms in the x,y axes - circles and polylines, the z axis naturally follows the gradating curve of the glazed, rhytmical construction of the corridor. The Z shape naturally creates spaces in the corners for the theatre, the lecture hall and the outdoor amphitheatre as well. The open space left on the site was also geometrically organized following the axes of the corridor. On the facades facing the closing streets mechanical elements were placed, which are used for shading and as a media facade as well. With the pixelisation of the elements various themes and shapes can be created.

From 2006 I became a long-term assistant at the architectural office Ravasz and Partners based in Dunajská Streda. The office focuses on middle-sclae public buildings and housing. As an assistant I was working on various projects, mainly creating visualisations, but on many occasions was involved in planning and all different stages of the process of design. The main style of designs was following a typical trend in the region. This opportunity gave me a lot of experience in the field of low-cost housing and gave me an overview how an architectural office works in real life. In the meantime we still maintain connection.

hotel project haus bei schladming
visualisation by Brano Stevko and Daniel Hanusz
From the fall of 2011 I became an architect at the architectural office flattingerdesign in Salzburg. The office concentrates exclusively on large-scale hotel projects all around the world. At the time I was a member of the team, we worked on four different projects. I had the most contribution to the hotel project Haus bei Schladming, which is a complex luxury resort in the heart of the Alps. I had a lot of influence to the project from the early stages, starting from the solution of the connection to the transport system to the spacial dispositions and the general design as well. The process of planning was going slow, mostly for the reason of few staff, which could not be so effective on a project as huge as this and constant interruptions by other smaller projects. As said above, the design was largely influenced by my vision, but it doesn’t precisely reflect my exact idea of architecture in general. You should have seen the previous version... :)

Although some negative experience, I have learned a lot in the field of hotel design and managing large-scale project planning in a team and I also largely improved my skills in 3D modeling, visualisation and post-processing. I have no aim to dehonest the office, but the scale of mess and lack of overall concept during the planning process forced me to quit the office after finishing the project for the planning permission . Also this heavily business-oriented approach was not in terms with my beliefs and ideas of architectural practice at all.

high-rise hotel study mole frankfurt
This project was my step-in test to the office in Salzburg. I was given minimum information of the site and conditions, so it became just a concept for a high-rise building on a very limited, but special location - a small peninsula in the river Main in the industrial part of the city. I was asked to design the building in an attractive “dubai-like” style based on very simple concept drawings - literally 3 lines. The triangular site gives naturally the number 3 as the starting point as well, so I chose to plan a high-rise with a concrete core which supports the steel frame. The inner spaces were not part of the request, the project was mainly created to imagine visual possibilities of the site.

traditional family house
In the last two decades, the trends in housing got really changed in Slovakia. The soviet era has left huge devastation in cities and villages and has affected the architectural taste of its citizen. The old urban structures have been rebuilt without respecting the past and the identities of cities have been lost between the concrete boxes. With this project I wanted to try to recreate the style of a typical countryside house combined with the trends of modern lifestyle. I was also influenced by the fact, that the investor is a folk musician with a modern way of thinking. The house is not trying to copy old clay houses from the past, it is just using their elements to reach a perfect combination of old techniques and actual trends. The most typical exterior detail is the covered corridor which functions as a terrace but has also shading purposes. The inner spaces have a very cosy atmosphere thanks to the wooden beam ceiling.

twinhouse study
This twinhouse study is looking for possibilities to create low-cost but relatively modern looking homes for families in Slovakia. It is trying to oppose the actual trends of building bungalow-style houses in the region, which are aesthetically poor but cheap. The project started as a project for construction, but it remained only as a study.

amphitheatre for the calvinic church of samorin
The oldest building of my hometown Samorin is the medieval roman style church, which is famous for its well-preserved frescos. It hosts a culturally active community, which had plans to widen its possibilities of cultural events by building an amphitheatre in the extension of its gardens. With economic limitations and limitations from the conservation authorities, I had not much possibilities in the term of creativity. The site is naturally triangle-shaped, which designates the placement of the structure. On the structure stylized forms of roman architecture are used to create an authentic space without copying the original. The project is still in the hands of the city council for decision.

movie bar study
This is a study for a low-cost movie and cultural bar in the former cinema of the city Samorin. The spacial arrangment separates the bar to two parts - a lounge and performance hall. The design is following actual trends, but in my opinion the exact planning of a bar with this purpose shouldn’t be done it would lose its family-style authenticity which comes from the people visiting it.

photography
For architects it is very important to train their eyes and in my opinion the best way of it is amateur photography. It helps to improve the sense of composition and seeing the environment is a different way. My images are more static, trying to capture harmony with a hint of melancholy.
