Bottle Depot’s

Charity Programs!

The Bottle Depot believes in supporting the people and organizations operating in the Capital Regional District. Our Charity programs help local causes, organizations, sports teams and school groups earn donations through three unique initiatives:

Virtual Bottle Drive program Charity Donation Bins On-site donations at Bottle Depot locations

The environmental and social benefits of beverage container returns also contribute to the growth of our community. Returns to the Bottle Depot keep beverage containers and other recyclables out of the landfill and ocean, while the deposit money remains within our community to support people and programs across the CRD.

VIRTUAL BOTTLE DRIVE Our new “Virtual Bottle Drive” program makes fundraising for your charity or organization quick and easy! All you have to do is help spread the word about the program, and participate yourself; we’ll do the rest. Here’s how it works: • We are actively recruiting Collection Ambassadors across the CRD. Be the first in your area: www.express.return-it.ca • Encourage your community and neighbourhood to collect deposit beverage containers in transparent recycling bags. Once they have one or more bags of deposit beverage containers ready-to-go, they can fill out a quick online form and we’ll send a collection ambassador by for pick-up. Virtual Bottle Drive bags must be transparent recycling bags so we can see what’s in them. These bags can be picked up from any Bottle Depot location or purchased at most major hardware and grocery stores. Examples include: • Glad Regular Easy-Tie Recycling Bags. • Superstore No-Name Quick Tie Regular Blue Recycling Bags. • Home Depot HDS Blue Recycling Bags. • Virtual Bottle Drive pick-ups are available across the Capital Regional District (CRD) • Let your community know about the Virtual Bottle Drive through email campaigns, flyers, posters and word-of-mouth will effectively get the message out and help you earn more donations!

CHARITY DONATION BINS Sign up for a Charity Donation Bin and place it on-site at your organization or school. Be sure to let your community and neighbourhood know that by placing their empty containers in the bin, the deposit money directly supports your cause. The Bottle Depot team is here to support you. We encourage you to assign a Bin Ambassador and we love to work directly with that person when the bin needs a pick-up, if any roadblocks come up, or for help along the way! Our Ambassador Kit will provide you with the info to get started and tips on getting the word out about the program to your community. Once the bin is full, the Bottle Depot will pick-up the containers, take them to the depot for sorting and deposit the refund money into your account. Saving the beverage containers from the landfill or recycling bin while earning donations is that simple!

CHARITY BIN SUCCESS STORIES! These organizations benefited in a big way by promoting their Charity Donation Bin! Turning bottle refunds into cash donations helps fund charity programs, sports teams and school groups—the possibilities are endless.

Look what these groups have done: • ROAM raised over $18,000 to help reunite missing animals with their owners. • Spectrum Community School’s band raised more than $8,000 to help fund the purchase of new instruments. • 2nd Fort Street Victoria Scouts raised almost $9,000 to help fund their Scout Jamboree. • Claremont Secondary School’s rowing team raised $4,200 towards the purchase of sports equipment.
