Becoming Chief, How to lead your child’s special needs tribe Cathy Love is an Occupational Therapist, Coach, Speaker and Author who works with parents and disability service providers to achieve brilliant outcomes for children with special needs. Cathy knows that we are all unique and that we each have endless possibilities for growth. With vibrant dreams, great management and leadership children with special needs can be supported to be their best selves and live brilliant lives. Cathy trained as an Occupational Therapist in Melbourne. During her thirty year career Cathy has worked with thousands of children of all ages and stages, their parents and service providers both nationally and internationally. For the majority of her professional life Cathy has been self-employed, an experience that has fast tracked her leadership and management skills. In her book Becoming Chief, Cathy shares her clinical and business knowledge in a way that guides parents to become more confident, goal focused and leaders of their child’s therapy and educational teams. The rationale and practical ways for how to do this are divulged in the book. Cathy extensive experience in the disability sector. She is board member for the Fragile X Syndrome Association of Australia and has participated in two Federal Government Expert Reference Groups. She has listened to her clients over the years, witnessing their guilt, stress, confusion, sadness and exhaustion with navigating the system, managing families and life’s challenges. The chapters in Becoming Chief tackle these issues with sensitivity and a fortune of shared wisdom from the extraordinary parents she has worked with. Cathy is a Family Service Coach, a role that enables her to professionally coach parents to manage their child’s special needs tribe with skill and confidence. Cathy is the founding director of Nacre Consulting. Nacre is the natural process of a little seed, held in an oyster shell, whilst is grows into a brilliant unique pearl. The process takes time, special conditions and forces of nature. And so it is true for ourselves and for children with special needs. Cathy lives and works between the Melbourne CBD and a seaside town on the beautiful Australian Coastline. Her patient husband and two adult children humorously tolerate her love of eating, traveling, reading and wearing pearls.
