he history of timekeeping is very intriguing. Over centuries, watchmakers have found varied and perfect ways of packaging time. Today you have clocks, pocket watches (yes, many watch collectors seek them) and, of course, wrist watches. However, wrist watches have now gone beyond than just showing time. They are technologically-sophisticated enough to provide you with a range of facilities – ranging from recording your pulse to setting alarms for your daily prayer timings! And if you are a frequent business or leisure traveller, then choices abound. Here are some watches which will assist you in your unlimited travels, while keeping you close to home as well. The journey begins.

largest Navitimer ever designed by Breitling. It is 10 per cent bigger than the original Navitimer – with a diameter of 46 mm. The large size, however, doesn’t compromise on comfort for the wrist. The truly distinctive feature of Navitimer World is its second timezone display. With the chronometer-certified Caliber 24, a highly readable dedicated hand indicates the time elsewhere around the globe, in the 24-hour mode. The caseback is engraved with the timezones of the world’s great cities. Like all Navitimer models, the World version is equipped with the inevitable circular slide rule for which this legendary chronograph is known the world over. The case is available in steel, with the rose or white gold editions being produced in limited numbers. The watch is supplemented by Barenia leather or crocodile leather straps.

the business hours of major stock markets. This technological tour de force brings together the two exciting worlds of horology and finance. This GP watch can be used to read, simultaneously and very easily, the time in twentyfour different international cities, one for each time zone - hence the name, ww.tc, the abbreviation for World Wide Time Control. This function, which is ideal for international travellers and businessmen, has been supplemented with the Financial automatic chronograph which indicates the opening hours for the important stock markets of New York, London, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Mumbai. This ingenious system depends on two mobile discs around the dial: A 24-hour ring is synchronised with the hour hand. A second bezel can be regulated with the crown at 9 o’clock. This displays the names of the twenty-four cities and the periods when the four bourses are open for business. When the red pointer on the hour ring is opposite one of these periods, that particular market is open. For the design conscious, the 43mm watch comes with a steel case and pink gold case (which is limited to 500 pieces only), with an alligator strap. Parmigiani Fleurier - Kalpa Tonda Hemisphere The Kalpa Tonda Hemisphere model, handmade by Parmigiani Fleurier, offers an easy to use complete second time zone display, with hour and minute hands. A considerable number of destinations with a half-hour or three quarters of an hour offset from GMT can be completely synchronised with the local time. To enable travellers to change the local time or destination time simply, the settings of the two time displays (hour and minute hands) are completely independent of each other. Two crowns are fitted on the right of the case to minimise confusion - one for setting the time zone, and the other for winding the movement, correcting the date and local time.

Available in steel or 18 carat pink gold, you can choose between blue, silver, graphite or tan shades for the dial. They add a dash of colour to your life…just like a collection of travel tales add to your vast adventures. Piaget Altiplano Double Jeu Piaget has acquired considerable expertise and credibility in the field of ultra-thin calibres. Not only does the brand set new records, but also stimulates its designers’ imagination by giving them

the possibility of creating daring models like the Altiplano Double Jeu watch. An absolutely unique creation, this watch actually consists of two watches, featuring extremely slender cases and ultra-thin movements that enable them to be superimposed so as to form just one. What you get is a 43 mm watch equipped with two calibres driving different time displays on each dial. The upper dial is adjusted to the time zone of the destination, while the lower one remains set to the time in the place of departure.
