THE SKINNY series guide | dialogue church
Frank Lloyd Wright was just a dude. Well, he was more like a dude who built buildings. I’m sorry. Let me be more specific—he was a dude that built some of the most influential and innovative buildings in modern architecture. Even if you’ve never heard of him, you already know him. His houses, office buildings, churches, museums, stain glass, and artistic and visual concepts have influenced most art and architecture created in the last 100 years. From his early homes in Chicago to the Guggenheim in New York to his later desert houses in Arizona, Wright’s style of extreme detail paired with his emphasis on the relationship between what was indoors and out changed the way we live forever. Not to mention, he was also crazy. There is a story about a family that built a Wright house in Chicago, and after moving in, invited him over for dinner. Wright was so upset about the changes the family had made to the arrange-
ment of the furniture, he spent most of the evening realigning the chairs to the dining room table and the placement of lamps on end tables. To Wright, the smallest of details, the way the sofa sat under a window, were apart of his overall design. He believed even the head of a screw or a pane of glass was significant and valuable. What are these small things? These seemingly insignificant details of life that we often miss? What kind of impact would these details make if only we stopped to take a closer look? God is the Details is a series about examining these small things, looking a little closer, to see the significance and the value in what we’ve never seen before. Come and join the conversation.

anyways?
How amazing would it be to understand what God was thinking? The Skinny is a tool to help you find out how His plans and dreams fit your life. The concept is simple. If God is speaking to us today, we want to do more than simply listen—we want to join the conversation. We want to do more than hear and obey. We want to listen and interact. We need more than the message—we want to know the messenger.
It moves through three phases: 1. Connect to God’s truth and beauty. 2. Center your life on love. 3. Create hope in a broken world. The world is waiting on you to live your best life. God is speaking, and He is inviting you to join the conversation.
The Skinny is a collaborative tool to help you discover the longing in your soul.

Where do you see God’s truth and beauty?
1. Do More than Listen
As you hear the message from God’s Word, learn to listen for God’s voice. Listen with your heart. What did He say? How did you feel when you heard the message? What images ran through your mind during the teaching?
Center
2. Write it Down
I know that you think you’ll remember, but you won’t. So write it down. During the teaching, take some notes. Use the space provided each week, your favorite Moleskin, or the back of a gum wrapper, but write down what you hear God saying. (this guide is highly recommended!) Sketch. Write some song lyrics. Make a list. Whatever method works for you; get your thoughts down on paper.
In what ways can you center your life on love?
1. Pray
Ask God to help you hear His voice and for insights into His thoughts on your life.

How can we use what we’ve learned to bring hope to this broken world?
1. Converse
Sit down with a friend and share how God has impacted your life. Look for areas of growth. Share your accomplishments and your failures.
2. Post
efforts, helping others, prioritizing yourself above others.
Go online to Dialogue Church at www.dialoguechurch.us and click on The Skinny. Share your thoughts on this week’s conversation in the comments.
3. Open Mic
Use creativity and share your story! Make a few notes about things you could share at the next Open Mic. What happened as you began to live God’s Word? How has your life changed? What are you doing to make the world a better place? Open Mic follows every teaching series usually on the last day. Keep a lookout for specifics.
