FABIANA FILIPPI
WHY WE LOVE IT! …because fashion is a lifestyle, and Fabiana Filippi’s naturally refined lifestyle is one we embrace. When Diamond Dream opened its clothing boutique last year, Fabiana Filippi was at the top of our must-have brand list. As one of the leading authentic Made-In-Italy collections, the high design house’s sense of timeless beauty distinguishes it from other designers. …because we prize craftsmanship. It is the same love of excellence that drives us in our fine jewelry business. Springing from a passion for tradition and what is handmade, Fabiana Filippi starts by selecting the finest raw materials and employs working techniques that express harmonious lines and exact proportions. The result is a recognizable timeless design that is at once soft and sophisticated.

FASHION IN FOCUS AT
DIAMOND DREAM hile a fashion model photo shoot may be commonplace on the streets of New York City, the same scene was literally stopping traffic in downtown Bernardsville. What was going on, thought inquisitive onlookers? The occasion was the photo shoot for this magazine, and the combination of gorgeously dressed models against the backdrop of picturesque Bernardsville, was nothing short of stunning. In fact, it was curiously cosmopolitan.
W
It is easy to take your surroundings for granted, but when we were planning our first-ever fashion shoot, we knew there was no better place than quaint downtown Bernardsville, the beautiful town that had graciously embraced us for over twelve years. We’ve long had a love affair with this close-knit community and the people and businesses that make it a special place to live and work. It’s unusual for a small business like ours to take on such a project. Our hands-on approach kept us involved every step of the way—from choosing the models and scouting locations to obsessing over the apparel and jewelry that would perfectly complement our backdrops.
8
And it literally “took a village,” as we called upon the resources and relationships that we share with our clients and surrounding businesses. To capture the authenticity of the area and its people, we photographed Adaya, one of our longtime clients and a local resident. She accepted our modeling invitation and her beauty and elegance grace the pages of our magazine. Craft Hair Studio provided hair and make-up services for our models. Tsuki provided props and Sette and The Bernards Café supplied the necessary nourishment for all of us over the course of the two month creative endeavor. In quiet solitude, we burned the midnight oil painstakingly posing, staging, shooting, laying out and editing the photos. But we were steadfast in our belief that a personal approach would best reflect our designs and our local community. Diamond Dream Today How we arrived at this point might be best summed up by hard work and intuition. After all, sticking with what is comfortable and familiar would have been the simpler choice. But after reflecting upon 30 years in business, Faina’s passion for fashion and a desire to bring quality designer apparel to women in the Somerset Hills won out. Bernardsville lacked the convenience of a women’s clothing boutique and apparel was the ultimate complement to our existing jewelry collections.
Faina wanted to personalize a woman’s shopping experience, and with her clients in mind, assembled a highly-edited collection of designer fashions—all approachable for the modern active woman, whether she is running errands, chauffeuring children, attending a board meeting, or enjoying a night on the town. It was a new chapter for Diamond Dream. Around Town The following pages pay homage to Bernardsville, capturing its storybook looks along with our captivating fashions and jewelry. Come along with us as you turn the pages and you’ll recognize some of Bernardsville’s historical landmarks, bucolic settings, and charming buildings brought to life in a beautiful and unexpected way. We also hope you will be inspired by the alluring fashions and exquisite jewelry that we’ve chosen from designers around the world. First stop: Bernardsville Train station, a stop on the historical “Millionaire’s Express” with its grey-curved stone masonry, wood paneling, and welcoming sign played perfectly with our grey-toned leisurely looks from Fabiana Filippi and Peserico. The station provided a respite from the heat as our models were clothed in sumptuous cashmeres and wools. On any given day, you can spot Faina wearing her favorite Fabiana Filippi boucle and suede poncho, as captured. St. Bernard’s Church was selected for its near-perfect movie backdrop with its arched wooden double doors, Gothic stonework, stained glass windows and undulating emerald lawn. The romanticism certainly enhanced our dressier looks. Ulla Johnson’s silk dresses exude a Bohemian yet feminine style. Designs from Edward Archour are nothing short of Parisian-chic.
“Our designs are approachable for the modern woman, whether she is running errands, chauffeuring children, attending a board meeting, or enjoying a night on the town.” — Faina Shapiro The Norman Rockwell-esque Lupe's Coffee & Grocery Shops, with sun-bleached sign and precocious young child peeking out the storefront to observe our shoot, provided a natural setting for our more casual-luxe looks from Rizal and Rachel Comey. The venerable Bernards Inn, with its genteel, Old-Hollywood feel, was our next visit. It was in this historic setting that we introduced our most glamorous and formal looks. The Inn's grand foyer with stately fireplace, and lavishly appointed Library Piano Bar emphasized the romance of Blumarine’s statement-collared jacquard dress and Edward Achour’s drop-waist pleated throwback dress—perfect choices to romanticize going back in time.
Last stop: Diamond Dream. Close your eyes and imagine being transported to the streets of Geneva or Old Montreal with its meticulously maintained storefronts adorned with planters and window baskets. Diamond Dream’s renovation to their century-old store preserved the architectural integrity of the building. The old world ambiance was the perfect place to showcase the comfortable looks of Lauren Manoogian and Fabiana Filippi. So off we go through downtown Bernardsville…follow us on the journey of fashion and fancy.

THE SCENE A DAY OF BEAUTY TO BENEFIT ST. JUDE’S Who doesn’t love a day of blissful pampering? And when the experience benefits a cause as important as curing childhood cancers and life-threatening diseases, the radiant beauty is felt both inside and out. Our guests were treated to a spa-like experience of stunning makeovers that included hair styling, make-up, and photographic styling for a fresh new look and feel.Ladies also reveled in browsing our latest designer clothing collections, new jewelry pieces from Pomellato, and indulged in a delicious lunch. Fun was had by all! Our thanks go out to Craft Hair Studio, The Bernards Inn, Pomellato, Monica Hahn Photography, and Ken-Rent who helped make the event a success for our guests and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital—New York and New Jersey.
A GEM OF A NIGHT Admiring and learning about rare gems is always a delight, but when international expert Arthur Bolinsky brought a generous sampling of his prized collection of rubies, emeralds and sapphires to our showroom, he also took guests on adventures around the world as he told of how he personally sourced them. Arthur travels to such faraway places as Burma, Mozambique, Columbia, Kashmir, Sri Lanka and Australia, visiting markets and the mines themselves in search of the world’s most magnificent gems. He then designs and creates breathtaking jewelry pieces for collectors all over the world. Arthur educated and inspired all in attendance, including 8-year-old Samuel Schuler, who brought along his own rock collection to share.
MAKING SPACE FOR SHOES Artisan sandal making at Diamond Dream? You bet! We transformed our second story clothing boutique into a shoemaker’s studio where participants dreamed up their own designs and created bespoke sandals. With guidance from Brooklyn Shoespace’s master shoemakers, budding artisans created beautiful, hand-made leather sandals and espadrilles. Materials were provided and participants were able to select all the styling and embellishments for their footwear, from the color of the leather or textile and threading to decorative studs and monogramming. “We all need a creative outlet,” said Diamond Dream’s Faina Shapiro. “Our customers love and appreciate fashion so this was a perfect workshop for them to have fun and express their individuality.”
SAVORING THE SOUNDS OF THE NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC The Mansion at Natirar set the scene for an unforgettable evening hosted by Diamond Dream and Breguet that brought our clients together to enjoy some of the finest classical music in the world. The intimate event began with a special performance by the New York Philharmonic Chamber Music followed by a delectable dinner. Breguet displayed some of its finest watches and guests marveled at the inner workings of the fascinating timepieces as revealed by a Breguet watchmaker.

HONORING MOTHERS AT DIAMOND DREAM MOTHER’S DAY ESSAY CONTEST Smiles, hugs and tears of joy were in abundance when Moms and their families gathered in our showroom to award the prizes in our Mother’s Day Essay Contest. Flanked by their Moms, finalists shared their essays and presented their diamond and gemstone prizes to their motherly “inspirations.” Diamond Dream hosted the contest to honor and celebrate the most important women in our lives. Participants were asked to explain “Why is your mom special? Why do you love her? What do you appreciate most?” All finalists received diamonds or semi-precious gemstones, just in time for Mother’s Day.
“’Friends are like stars, they come and go, but only one is the true glow,’ and that one is my Mom. I love my Mom to the moon and back.” —Tess Hanlon, Far Hills
The grand prize was awarded to 5th grader Tess Hanlon from Far Hills Country Day School. Congratulations to all our finalists including: Damilola Borishade, Griffin Forminard, Katelynn Barcheski, Nicole Rosas Bendrell, Kensi Garvin, Grace Martin, Sean Saunders, Meghan Shelley and Joel A. Sierra.
ITALIAN CARNIVAL KICKS OFF A CAUSE It was a festive evening celebrating the glamour of Italian high fashion, food and live music with our own Italian Carnival. Known the world over as a fashion and luxury powerhouse with quality always top of mind, Italy is continually a favorite, go-to source for Diamond Dream—whether it is jewelry or apparel. Our customers LOVE our Italian brands and so do we! While sipping Prosecco and enjoying Italian delicacies, guests marveled as they browsed the latest collections from Pomellato, Marco Bicego, Temple St. Clair, and Armenta, as representatives explained the artistry that goes into creating such exquisite pieces. And as New Jersey’s exclusive Buccellati retailer, pieces from the renowned high jewelry house in Milan are always on display in our showroom. Clothing also took center stage with the newest arrivals in Italian designer fashions from Peserico, Fabiana Filippi, Meli Melo, Blumarine and Eleventy. Live music performed by a duo of Italian singers entertained guests all evening long. The event also served as the kick off for our clothing drive for Dress for Success Morris County, a local nonprofit organization working to empower local women. Our customers and the community showed an outpouring of support, donating business apparel, handbags and shoes—including some designer label apparel—for this great cause!
CELEBRATING DIAMOND DREAM’S 30TH ANNIVERSARY WITH HEART “You Gotta Have Heart,” may be popular Broadway lyrics, but caring about the community is a philosophy that has driven Edward and Faina Shapiro since they opened their doors over three decades ago. And to commemorate that milestone in business, the Shapiros, family, friends and clients gathered to celebrate at a 30th anniversary party that also helped raise funds for the local charity, Heartworks. Heartworks, an acts of kindness group providing support for people living in crisis and in need of hope, received a donation of $6,195 raised from the event’s silent auction, as well as funds raised from a week-long sales promotion. “They chose to use this opportunity to help Heartworks,” said Megan McDowell, founder of the group. “Faina and Edward are the type of people who share their good fortune and we’re blessed to have them in our community.”

LOVE AMERICAN MILITARY STYLE
30
hen Army General Guardsman Sgt. John Ondish and Nicole Russo tied the knot recently at The Bernards Inn in Bernardsville, it was not your traditional dream-come-true wedding. That’s because the luxury, all-expense paid patriotic nuptials were given to the couple in appreciation for John’s military service to the USA.
W
The couple was the grand prize winner of the American Dream Military Wedding Giveaway contest sponsored by the Bernardsville Chamber of Commerce. Generous local businesses banded together to honor New Jersey’s servicemen and women with an all-inclusive wedding that included the donation of custom wedding bands from Diamond Dream. “This is like a dream come true,” said a beaming Nicole on her wedding day. “We’ve been waiting for this day for a very long time.” The military-fairy tale themed wedding combined romance with patriotic touches that included groomsmen in dress blues and a first slice of cake displaying the colors of the American flag. “This is like a dream come true... We’ve been waiting for this day for a very long time.” – Nicole Russo Nicole won the wedding after she and her future maid of honor were victorious in a scavenger hunt throughout downtown Bernardsville that came down to a photo-finish. John was stationed in Bahrain at the time and learned via skype that he and Nicole would be celebrating a $50,000 wedding with family and friends complete with wedding rings, reception, gown, flowers, photography and more. Edward, Faina and the entire team at Diamond Dream were so happy to be a part of John and Nicole’s love story and wish them a lifetime of love and happiness. WHY WE LOVE IT! …becauseit’s wearable art. Simply put, some of Freywille’s collections are unique interpretations of paintings of the masters, including Monet and Klimt. Others are inspired by love, happiness and passion—and an overarching humanist philosophy. But all of Freywille’s breathtaking collections carry one common element: enthusiasm for pure art.

LAUREN MANOOGIAN
WHY WE LOVE IT!
‌because we adore slipping into softness that makes a statement. Lauren Manoogian is a jewelry-designer-turned knitwear designer whose cozy, innovative collections are simple and sculptural. Using organic materials, the line is currently made entirely in Peru where there are so many amazing unconventional and traditional resources available. Manoogian is inspired by these materials and methods, which intersect on many levels with her own personal experience. Trying to utilize these potentials and translate them in a modern way is is what has defined her unique brand. For example, a Summer 2015 capsule collection featured yarn naturally dyed by hand. That is a process that on a production level would not be fathomable in most places. Because she succeeded, the brand is slowly integrating natural dyes into the full collection. Manoogian always wanted to experiment with these unique and non-commercial ideas, even if they remain a small portion of the big picture.
48
‌because being sustainable is smart. On a broader level, sustainability is something that is always in focus for Manoogian. Practically speaking, she started the line from zero with no funding, so she had to be resourceful and creative with less. As the line continues to grow, opportunities to invest in raw materials, development, etc. arise, but also a bigger responsibility toward what is being put into the world. The challenge now is to have a sustainable, scalable business on many levels rather than just be sustaining, while at the same time resisting the pressure to live up to the unrealistic status quo of the fashion industry. Breguet, the innovator.
Type XXII 10Hz, high-frequency chronograph A contemporary interpretation of the legendary Type XX supplied in 1960 to the French Naval Air Force, the Type XXII is the first series-produced mechanical chronograph to feature a regulating mechanism that oscillates at a frequency of 10 Hz, enabling measurements to 1/20 th of a second. This major technical innovation is made possible by the physical properties of silicon and the lighter weight of the escapement components, considerably enhancing the watch’s regulating performance. History is still being written...
