Villa in Berlin

Private garden | Enea Gmbh | Germany - 2016 Participation: All project phases from garden design and architectural concepts to construction detailing and implementation plans. Coordination/communication with technicians, professional artists construction manager and client. This project was commissioned by a client with a villa on a large plot in a residential zone of Berlin. The villa needed an intervention to make the whole property more attractive and give the exterior space more possibilities to connect with nature, which beforehand, (add comma) was only lawn and sparse planting. The new design gives the property a whole new dimension since the intervention not only included planting, but also (all exterior furniture selections, lighting, irrigation system, sound system, services and a garden pavilion. The design was very focused on the social activities and on the self-enjoyment of the place. It incorporates a small, private terrace next to the kitchen and a big, social terrace with grill and lounge area. The pool was equipped with a counter-current machine and is surrounded by a large, (wooden deck with trees and a waterlily basin. At the furthermost part of the garden, a pavilion was built for exercising and relaxation, and behind it, a fern garden marks the beginning of the forest.

The Oaks

Master planning for residential and leisure community | Enea GmbH | Czech Republic 2016 Participation: Team member for detail areas. This project is a master plan for a new residential and leisure community of about sixty hectares. This private investment offers to the market high quality residential properties ranging from apartments through luxury villas under the principles of Community and Environment Situated within a rich natural landscape, the community covers the area between an old castle and a small existing town. The renovated chateau will have a golf club, hotel and spa. The town’s centre is to be developed with all sorts of complementary equipment: shops, markets, a kindergarten, parks and playgrounds. The architectural designs made by ten different offices, offer a range of different housing types, including terraced and semi-detached units, apartments and villas. T The task for the team was to work together with the general masterplan and the environmental analyses to further develop the landscape in the project. This meant, in-detail design of all the exterior and public spaces for the construction phases. The team designed the gradens in the non private areas and the more intimate spaces in the chateau or the villas.

Wellness Pavilion in Berlin

Small garden architecture for private garden| Enea Gmbh| Germany - 2015

Participation: All project phases from architectural concepts to construction detailing and implementation plans. Coordination/communication with technicians, hand workers, construction manager, material suppliers and client. This garden pavilion was part of an exterior design of a property in Berlin. The building was proposed as a response to the clients’ necessity of exercising at home in a more appealing space than the former gym of the house which was in the basement. The building is set on the back portion of a long property to give a visual boundary to the pool area and to create more interest on the backside of the garden because the building marks a change of angle on the plot and a change of character to the garden. The building has a gym complete with a sauna and relaxation area with a view towards the forest. The pavilion was built in Switzerland and then shipped and assembled in Germany.

Renders: the materiality was simple and clean, Steal structure, glass facades and wood cladding.

Semi-Public Gardens | Enea Gmbh | Switzerland - 2015 Participation: Development of the landscape architectural concept and construction documentation. Hanging gardens in collaboration with 720° Architekten. Coordination/communication with architects, professional artists construction manager and client. This was an old, existing commercial building across the train station of Pfäffikon. The entire neighboring area was being renovated, so the client was renovating the building as well. The commission of this project was originally to renovate the open spaces around the building itself including a new space for the restaurant on the ground floor. Thanks to a collaboration between the client, the architects and the city government, it was possible to extend the landscape architectural design to the facades by implementing hanging gardens. For the greening of the facades, a variety of creeping plants was carefully selected according to sun and shade orientation. To complement the greening of the area, a row of poplar trees was planted along the main street. Grasses and hydrangeas where used as underplantings. A higher hedge was also used on the main street to reinforce the new, green corridor that was created. Finally, on the new dining terrace built on the top of the entrance of the underground parking, climbing wisteria was used on the pergolas to reinforce the topic of creeping plants to create as much greenery as possible.

Social Pavilion

Garden architecture for private project| Enea Gmbh| Switzerland - 2015 Participation: Development of architectural concept. This project was designed to complement an overall garden design concept on the property of an historic Swiss farmhouse. The idea was to give the house a new space for social events around a pool on the opposite side of the plot. The proposed architecture possesses a contemporary style that contrasts the old building but, at the same time, takes the materiality of the farmhouse to create a dialogue between both. A single volume gathers all the needed spaces and frees up all facades to leave a raw glass volume, connecting the interiors visually with the garden. Physical connections are also created through many accesses and mechanical parts, allowing the interior space to become a part of the exterior.

The free floor space gathers the social kitchen and lounging area, behind the main volume, a connection to the sauna. Flexibility and movement were the main criteria for the design.

Landscape Park for the Murr River Valley

Landscape planning | BHM planing society| Germany - 2012

Participation: Development of concepts and ideas for regional growth. On this project, sixteen municipalities of the greater region north of Stuttgart joined with the state’s regional planning unit to commission the office to produce concepts for development which would strengthen the city’s tourism and recreation in the Murr River valley area. The task was to find common key points in the region and exploit its potential to develop a “landscape park”. My participation in the project was to assist with the analyses and then propose and develop ideas for these key points. The concepts were developed on three main characteristics of the region: water (rivers, creeks and springs), orchards and vineyards, which are the common elements of the landscape that can be found throughout the region. These elements were taken as design themes, and based on them, different sub-projects were proposed following specific intervention points that could be repeated to add interest to the existing hiking routes. The ideas were presented to the mayors of the municipalities and the RPU and were positively welcomed by the commission. After this, further studies were to be made (omit comma) in order to plan the landscape park and to implement the designs at a later phase. Architecture for temporary shelter of tourists

Sewing the Urban Fabric

IMLA International Project| Urban Workshop Uniersity of Cape Town | South Africa - 2012 Participation: team member in student project developed during the “Forgotten Urban Spaces” international workshop at UCT The task was to discover an undeveloped space in the city center and find a use for it. It was important to seek a solution that integrates this space with its surroundings, and at the same time, contributes to the development of the area. The size and scope of the project was up to the team’s imagination. An empty area on the back of the Performing Arts Center was chosen. In this place, an elevated highway separated the space from the water front visually and physically. There was a general disconnection from everything: water, public transportation, other urban equipment and public spaces. All this isolation made the place very unattractive. The existintece of several cultural centers in the surroundings, offered the potentiality for a culture district. Another advantage of the plot was its proximity to the water front, which offered an attractive possibility to reconnect with it.The final result was a master plan to solve some of the city’s general issues including circulation and transportation. The redesign of this area will sew the city and the waterfront back together. A parkt becomes a green bridge that by-passes the highway from above. Underneath, an intermodal transfer facility serves for attracting users and makesit possible to locate housing and commercial development.

Landscape Visibility from the Train

Case Study on the Valley of the River Rems | IMLA master Thesis | Germany - 2012 The train is the most effective public transportation system. Only in Germany moves millions of people a day, but the railway views of the landscape are never a concern for planers or builders. Seen from that point, the character of a region could be percived the wrong way or worse, not be percived at all. This thesis topic was a research into different theories and methods related to the visibility of the landscape. All put together to understand how ta region can be percieved from a moving train and what factors have influence in this process. A train route on the Resmstal north to Stuttgart was used as case study. The methodological approach was to decompose it into parts, according to theories of perception and movement and study how they affect one to the other.

Different theories used for the landscape analyses where Background middleground and foreground where taken into account together with speeds and perception of objects

The result is a set of maps that transfers the theory into an approximate of the reality to have an overall vision of the region from the train perspective. A visual classification of the areas and elements around the train line according to its visibility. The potential of this research is to get awareness of places where improvements can be made in order to enhance the visual sequence of the passenger in a train trip to better present a region to the travellers that pass by. A list of actions and recommendations accompanies this last part mentioning what kind of improvements can be made such as signs or elements that can be underlined to appeal the attention of the traveler.

Emergency Dwelling

Architecture student competition | UMSS | Bolivia - 2005

Participation: Self-developed design. First price. The issue of emergency housing was launched by a chair of professors as an internal competition within the architectural faculty. The task was to design an easily-transportable shelter to house 60 people, including a place for resting, shower, refectory, cooking, storage and restrooms. This proposal comprehends a module with housing and dining room together to accommodate 16 people in bunk beds of four, which can be modified to form a table for eating time. Two of these modules are bound by an intermediate module which can be used as storage space, kitchen and shower place. Additionally, (add comma) it has a separate module for latrines. The best quality of the design is the versatility of the module and the use of materials which are easily found. All details for construction and transportation were thoroughly thought though.

The same module offers the possibility of multiple uses and versatile spaces for life in a temporary dwelling.
