Diana Dau for SS 2015
The man behind the brand Joseph Altuzarra
“I think designers are starting to realize that we’re all in the same industry. There is really no point in trying to be removed. I’m not saying we should all be friends, but I think the relationships are a little easier and warmer. We’re making clothes—we aren’t saving the world. I’m not saying that designers aren’t artists, but at the end of the day, we make clothes. Hopefully we make beautiful clothes with a message, but in the end it’s for people to wear. I think that the hype of fashion has come down a level.” J.A. for Interview Magazine
“When he was growing up in Paris, Altuzarra spent most of his free time drawing with pencil and paper. “I was not a very popular kid in high school and I had this idea that the way that I dressed would change how liked I was. It was that kind of Pygmalion story. I think, ultimately that’s probably why I became interested in fashion,” he told a style blogger in 2012. “Its transformative power, and how it can change your identity.” Vogue
“Every so often a designer comes along with enough skill to charm editors, enough charm to seduce socialites, and enough good sense—for both hemlines and bottom lines—to make you believe he just might stay a while.” W Magazine
“I wanted to create clothes for women in their 40s and 50s and 60s who have careers and are sexy and don’t want to look like grandmothers. I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel. I believe that clothes should make a woman feel beautiful. But sometimes it’s the little things like cut and fit and sex appeal that make a large impact.” J.A. “It’s always been very important to me not to be defined by the success at work only, to me, success is being happy.” J.A. for Elle “The best and the worst thing about fashion is that anyone can do it. But because fashion can be the most unintellectual thing, you have to turn it into an intellectual exercise just for your own sanity. You have to start with a conceit.” J.A for Elle
Altuzarra woman: elegance with a dash of daring
The garments are feminine, clean and elegant, with a dash of daring. A collection is composed mainly by skirts and dresses, which also illustrates a feminine design approach. They wrap the body and follow its natural curves giving an easy, comfortable feel, yet sophisticated. Altuzarra is a mix of “wearable” and “editorial”, thus it has been described through a neologism: “wear-itorial.” It is seductive in an adult way, revealing the skin through high slits, deep V necks or cropped skirts and tops, keeping it balanced and elegant with a natural, slightly loose fit. The cut, fit and color schemes bring interest to the body in a subtle way. The colors are vibrant or contrasting but in combination with the silhouette lines, creates harmony. “Altuzarra was born out of the desire to make the sophisticated modern woman feel seductive, strong and confident.” http://altuzarra.com/en/about
