NOISE ESCAPE-URBAN WALL Orlando, Fl

SPRING 2019, Design 6. PROFESSOR: Vanessa Marin PROJECT DURATION: 3 weeks LOCATION: Downtown Orlando
A wall where community exists.
Noise Escape Wall
7|8
Located in Downtown Orlando, Gertrude`s Walk spans three city blocks, providing access to offices, city sports arena, and creating walking and biking pathway through Orlando`s Urban Trail. During the walk in Downtown, it`s hard not to notice the noise that comes from everything around you. Cars, Fire Department`s alarms, people, highway, are what create that noise. And sometimes there is that moment of silence, or seclusion that helps you to get away from that urban bustle.
Actual view of site
Urban Wall Noise Escape created to give people an experience of seclusion being isolated by long curved concrete walls and the space created between and through them.

WEST CENTRAL BOULEVARD
The wall will serve as a community space for anyone who finds the beauty of silence in their own way and who is not afraid to stay conscious of the moment.
ISOLATED MINI LIBRARY
Throughout the whole space, the wall gives people a lot of room to express their thoughts, feelings, emotions, memories. Since it`s solid concrete, people can freely draw, write on it, depending on what they may experience at that moment. In that sense, the wall becomes a place where community exists, where people share their stories through the silent communication whether it`s a drawing, or just a moment spent together.

Insects as our neighbours on Earth, as the ones who share the same fate as we are, survive in the nature for many decades, but in a microscale. They build structures that can consist of million member of their colonies or species, making them very good architects who we can learn from.
They do not have groups of people who are architects and build the constructions, instead they build as they know, working as a whole organism without destroying the nature around them. Moreover, blending in with the nature, and only supplementing it.

TOWER
Bok Tower Gardens is a contemplative garden, and bird sanctuary located north of Lake Wales, Fl. Gardens besides being gardens, have tall Singing Tower with its carillon bells, Pine Ridge Trail, and Pinewood Estate, which give you a feeling of being connected to the nature. A

Butterflies as one of the beneficial insects provide a lot of information that can be used by humans in construction structures, or from an aesthetic point. The pattern that they have is used in the water tower to create more lineweight material that can prevent different loads, and hold the 15,000 galloons of water. Moreover, the tower dives you into the process of butterfly revealing from the cocoon, which has a purpose of proteting the butterfly, just like the tower protecting the water, and then revealing and flavoring the groves.
Tower almost grows from the ground, just like the cocoon connected to the tree. Butterfly, in the process of being inside, forms the whole piece with the cocoon and its structure.

Passive Bus Stop Moscow, Russia
A.WINTER AND SUMMER SUN EXPOSURE AREAS B.POSSIBLE SPOTS IN SUBWAY RING C.CONNECTING ROUTES AND PATHWAYS D.RIVERWALK AND WALKING AREA
A
B Many countries experience different weather conditions throughout the year, and some of them experience harsh winter time. In Russia temperature drops as low as -30C, and nearby countries like Kazakhstan, Yakutia, Siberia etc. temperature can drop to -40-50C. Having such extreme weather conditions makes an accent of importance of people first. Taken from my experience, people in countries of that area mostly use public transportation because it is cheapier, it is faster, and because some just do not have any choice.
C
Bus stops are not what people may think of when designing public spaces.

Winter sun
Overhang condition keeps the inside cool during summer time, blocking the direct sunlight, whereas the winter sun rays will drop on thermal mass.
The passive heating process works that way that the sun rays, during the the daytime, begin to be absorbed by the thermal mass, in this bus stop it is concrete, and distributed throughout the whole solid part.
GLASS SCREEN
Glass has an important part here too, because it
helps the termal mass to absorb the heat from sun and save it there for a relatively long time which will be enough for the night time too
COPPER LINEAR SYSTEM (to provide structure)
COPPER STRUCTURE on the glass strenghts
the screen on the bus stop, and helps to keep it together. In its form, bus stop has curved angles, so that the wind that can occur in open areas could just flow around it, and help it to be more stable.
HEAT ABSORBING THERMAL MASS
Moscow as one of the biggest city in this area, having a big population of people, a big usage of transportation is in need of these kind of bus stops. However, the bus stop does not necessarily have to be only in Moscow, it can be built anywhere where the weather is alike to this

SACRED SPACE
The concept of church can be understood
by people differently. Personally, for me, church is the place where people gather to concentrate on one whole thing, sending only positive vibrations and feelings, connecting to God, Universe, call it as you prefer, and raise to their greatest self. Step by step opening up the soul for new experiences, new mind changing moments, and increase the level of their spirituality.
39|40
"The one who do not travel, reads only one page"- St. Augustine
My concept completely leans toward my understading of what church or chapel represents to me, and to people. Thus, my chapel located just near the Bok Tower directing West East, and being on the slope, goes higher as you experience through the chapel.
ANALYSIS DIAGRAM
The site itself has all the places connected to each other through the array of pathways and trails. Thereby, scratching and designing the ground and opening the spaces of the chapel from the different sides can correspond to the St. Augustine`s quote "The one who do not travel read only one page"

CHAPELSection 1 The essence of getting higher can be experienced throughout the chapel till the very end, while th actual landscape will gradually rise up, which can be seen on the sections on the right
CHAPELSection 2
Concrete door with infinite line pattern, that welcomes the visitors and lead to the "infinite" way to the greatest self.
45|46
The Plan shows how the circulation through the chapel`s
spaces lead you from the outside to the main space, which is Altar and Baptismal Fond. On the only threshold, which is basically entrance/exit, people will face the side chapel. And this chapel starts in the very beginning as a very small, private space, where people can start their path to the greatest self. It is pretty much a launching point, where people can enjoy the moment of being in the small area by themselves, and do what they usually do.
As you walk through the chapel, and make a "u-turn", referring to the main chapel space as another page in the book, you enter an expanding space with an altar and baptismal fond. Baptismal fond, being a whole stoned wall, has water going down from it, highlighting the moment of reaching the goal people may have been setting when they were coming to the chapel.
