Dear Sacred Heart Families and Friends, Welcome to L’Esprit 2015—the 12th anniversary of L’Esprit de Sacré Coeur! This is a favorite night of our community when we celebrate the spirit of the community of Sacred Heart Schools. Along with the fun of the gala, we celebrate by honoring a community member who exemplifies the values of the Goals and Criteria. This year, our school community is focusing on deepening our life through the lens of Goal V: Schools of the Sacred Heart commit themselves to personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom. With our 138 year history here in Chicago, the spirit of the Sacred Heart community extends far beyond Sheridan Road to all those with whom we share our mission. In celebrating the values of the Goals and Criteria, this year we honor Family Matters as our 2015 Goal Award recipient. As one of our neighbors in the Rogers Park community since 1987, Family Matters offers children and families opportunities for individualized personal development to help them find their place in the world and to be a force for positive changes. Reflecting many of the same values inherent in the Goals and Criteria, the Principles of Leadership of Family Matters teach positive thinking and language, peaceful conflict resolution, and responsible decision making. I am delighted that our friends and neighbors at Family Matters are the recipient of this year’s Goal Award. On behalf of the entire community of Sacred Heart, congratulations! In this year of focusing on our own growth, both personally and as a community, we remember that it is the experience of belonging to the Sacred Heart community that nourishes our growth. Our community embraces a rich diversity of people living throughout the city and from across the globe. Our students are nourished by different faith traditions and family structures, but once on campus, each individual experiences belonging to one community that we continually work to build and nurture. An important aspect of tonight’s event is the funds raised to support our financial aid program. Those funds make the experience of a Sacred Heart education accessible to children from all socio-economic backgrounds. In the celebration tonight, you get a glimpse into many of the fun and memorable experiences we share at Sacred Heart. Thank you for your generosity in making the experience of Sacred Heart education available to others. Thank you to the chairs of tonight’s event, Colleen Farrell, Letty Marsico, and Eileen Murphy, who have worked so hard to make our experience of L’Esprit 2015 so memorable. Thank you also to my friend and colleague, Rich Dioli, the Head of Sacred Heart School in Atherton, California who is serving as tonight’s auctioneer. I extend a special welcome to all those visiting the community of Sacred Heart Schools tonight. You have stepped into a wonderful community of people who enjoy each other and celebrate our commitment to make God’s love visible in the world. Thank you for joining us this year, and thank you for your on-going support of the mission of Sacred Heart education. Now let’s celebrate L’Esprit 2015 the spirit of our community! Gratefully,

Nat Wilburn Head of Schools

FAMILY MATTERS 2015 Recipient of the Sacred Heart Schools Goal Award

Family Matters was chosen as the recipient of the 12th Annual Sacred Heart Schools Goal Award. This organization exemplifies the spirit of St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, foundress of the Society of the Sacred Heart, who said, “For the sake of one child I would have founded the Society.” Family Matters is also focused on the individual child. Eleven years ago, SHS began celebrating its mission by recognizing in the larger Chicagoland community a person or organization whose life and work exemplifies one of the Goals of Sacred Haert education. This year, the award focuses on Goal 5: Schools of the Sacred Heart commit themselves to educate to personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom. The Family Matters nomination for the award stated “Having an outstretched hand such as Family Matters to guide youths who otherwise would have no other option has provided that ‘atmosphere of wise freedom.’” We salute Family Matters’ 27 years of service to Northeast Rogers Park children and families, providing initiatives that support personal growth, leadership and achievement. Its programs – tutoring and after-school activities, fitness and health initiatives, postsecondary readiness and environmental awareness – all cultivate responsible citizens who can explore, discover and take risks to determine their futures.

Welcome to L’Esprit! Whether you are joining us for the first time or a decades-long attendee, we hope you thoroughly enjoy the evening. This is one of the highlights of the year and an opportunity to celebrate with fellow parents, faculty, staff, alumni and supporters that believe in the mission of Sacred Heart Schools. Family Matters provides a terrific example to all of us of how to live Goal 5. They have been helping people in our community advance their own personal growth for decades and Sacred Heart has enjoyed a long-time partnership with them. We salute them and their mission and it is an honor to present to them the 2015 Sacred Heart Goal Award. This year’s chairs, Colleen, Letty, and Eileen have taken L’Esprit in an exciting new direction, continuing a tradition of creativity and progress. We are extremely grateful for their leadership and the tremendous amount of time and effort they have put into making this another overwhelming success. Our heartfelt thanks also to the numerous parent volunteers, staff, and faculty who have committed so much of their time and energy to make this possible. Finally, thank you to all who are attending tonight and giving so generously. The fact that so many of you contribute your time and resources throughout the year to support our great school is inspiring. This truly is an important night for Sacred Heart Schools. Lisa and I look forward to enjoying it with all of you.

Jeff Jozwiak Chairman, Board of Trustees

Dear Friends, We are honored to welcome you to the 2015 L’Esprit de Sacre Coéur. With the help of our supportive parent body and numerous friends, we have assembled an impressive array of experiences and items for your bidding pleasure. Our most sincere appreciation goes out to the individuals whose dedicated efforts have made L’Esprit 2015 possible. We would especially like to recognize Sophie Streeter, Meghan Billadeau, and Alex Voigt who are essential to our fundraising efforts tonight. Without the generous support of the families of Sacred Heart and the faculty and staff, tonight would not have been possible. We extend our sincere thanks to each and every one of you for supporting the Auction effort in so many ways! We also acknowledge the businesses that have kindly donated items in support of our auction. Please return their kind support by frequenting their businesses. We are grateful to our families and friends who have shown patience, good humor, and a remarkable ability for generating creative ideas for tonight’s event. It's Willamette‌D*mn It! Value: $140 Now you know...for lovers of Oregon Pinots you cannot go wrong with this trio. The 2011 Shea Wine Cellars Pinot Noir scores 91 points from Robert Parker: Sappy and finely tannic; vivacious without the least sense of thinness, this finishes with handsome and downright refreshing length. Coleman Vineyards Estate Reserve is an Estate Reserve in every way, with deep color and brooding, black-fruited aromatics, this wine reveals countless layers from top to bottom. The 2009 Airlie has aromas of black cherry, black raspberry and spice that lead into an elegant wine with flavors of pie cherry and plum. Silver winner in the 2014 Great Northwest Wine Competition. Bottoms up! Donated by: Amy and Craig Korte, Emily and Christopher Raub, Maureen and Thomas Gilligan

1101.

The pair of Joseph Phelps Freestone from 2010 and 2011 will not disappoint with high ratings and their characteristic tangerine peel. Donated by: Elizabeth Butler, Kristen and David Adams, Mary Ann and James Hoey

All in the Family! - Glunz Family Winery Selections Value: $100 Enjoy four bottles from the Glunz Family Winery! The Glunz family story started in 1879 when Louis Glunz, age 17, left his country of Germany in pursuit of the American Dream. In 1888, the dream was realized for him when he opened up his own wine, beer and spirit shop on Wells & Division. Just within the last year, the 3rd and 4th generations of the Glunz family opened up a twenty-acre winery in the rolling hills of Paso Robles, California. Included here are two bottles of Santa Barbara Chardonnay - Bianca's Blend 2012 and two bottles of New Classic Oxymoron Red Blend 2011. Donated by: Lucia and Louis Glunz

1105.

Sonoma vs. Napa - You Choose! Value: $115 Lewis doesn't make the Mason's Napa Valley Cabernet every year--this is the fifth vintage since it was first made in 2003 to commemorate the birth of his youngest grandson. The 2011 is still incredibly youthful, like 10-year-old Mason, and it's bursting with cherry fruited energy. Or would you prefer the Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon 2010, very representative of the Alexander Valley, with boysenberries in the flavors and an exuberant aftertaste. This Bordeaux blend style wine is never-ending, its layered finish makes it enjoyable now or cellarworthy through 2026. Donated by: Carolyn and Yale Henderson, Krista and Erick Coan
