All After School classes must be paid for by September 12, 2013. The amount of financial aid awarded for one (1) specialized after school class will be based on the percentage of aid a student receives for tuition, available aid, and the demand for classes.

Payment Policies

Sacred Heart is open after school for all sorts of fun, academic and personal enrichment. Check out the Student Life section of the School website for information about instrumental music and voice lessons, sports clinics and team practices, which are also being held after school.

Payment by credit card will be accepted. Upon receipt of payment, a confirmation of your registration will be emailed to you.

Scheduling  

Enrollment & Registration 

Registration begins August 9 - September 12. To register for class, click here. First time users will need to setup an account. Payment must be made at time of registration in order to reserve space in the class. (The one exception would be for anyone requesting financial aid… see note below)

Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

You will receive an automated confirmation of registered Classes.

We will contact you only if a class is cancelled due to low enrollment.

NOTE: If you received financial aid toward tuition for the 2013-2014 school year, you are eligible to apply for financial aid for one (1) specialized after school class. The deadline to apply for this financial aid is September 3, 2013. To apply for financial aid; you must register for the class first. During the online registration process, choose the desired class and check the box indicated to apply for Specialized After School Program Financial Aid. The box must be checked in order to apply. On the check out page please select “Pay the minimum amount due”. You will be registered for the class and will hear back from the financial aid committee by September 5, 2013.

Classes begin the week of September 16th There are two class sessions during Fall 2013. Some classes span Session I and II and run for 11 weeks. o Session I: September 16 - October 25 o Session II: October 28 - December 13 After School Classes do not meet on days that school is not in session (10/14, 10/15) or on (11/25, 11/26). After School Classes also will not be held 11/14 or 11/15 when ParentTeacher conferences are scheduled. Please check individual class descriptions for the schedule of start and end dates for each class.

Cancellations & Refunds   

Classes may be cancelled if they do not meet minimum enrollment. If a class is cancelled by the After School Office, you will be notified by email and issued a refund. You will not receive a refund if your child is absent or stops attending a class.

Core After School Program – Stay until 6:00 p.m.   

After School Classes are offered in addition to the Core After school Program. Your child/children is/are welcome to stay at school after their class in the Core After School Program. Pickup must take place by 6:00 p.m. through the Portry. If your child’s class does not start until after 4:00 they will stay in the Core Program until their class meets. Snacks

Behavior Policy

A healthy snack will be provided to every child participating in an After School Class. The cost of the snack is included in the Class fee.

Sacred Heart Schools recognize the development of character as a fundamental goal in education. Discipline at the Schools is rooted in the values inherent in the Goals and Criteria. All students who attend After School are required to abide by all the rules, policies and procedures that are outlined in the current Parent-Student Handbook. The discipline policy of the Schools will be reinforced and deemed appropriate, including, when necessary, suspension and expulsion from the After School program.

Dismissal/Pick Up 

 

Children enrolled in After School Classes will report to the Core After School Program at dismissal. Their After School Class teacher will pick them up there at the start time for their class. Children will be dismissed by After School staff at the Rosemont door at the class-end time indicated on the schedule. Students whose parents do not pick them up within 10 minutes of class end-time will join the Core Program and must then be picked up through the Portry.

Each session will focus on topics that range from social and personal etiquette in various situations (whether it is dining or tweeting) to proper form while walking in high heels.

Sacred Heart Middle School Debate Team Teacher: Mr. Watts Age: 6th, 7th & 8th graders Dates: Tuesdays & Fridays, September 14th - March 8th Time: Tuesdays, 3:45-4:45 p.m. Fridays, 2:45-4:45 p.m Middle School Debate at Sacred Heart is entering its third season. 6th-8th graders are eligible to join the academically rigorous Hardey and Academy competition teams. The debate season runs from midSeptember through the championship tournament on March 15, 2014. The teams practice twice each week on Tuesdays from 3:45-4:45pm and Fridays from 2:45-4:45pm, for a total of three hours per week. The five tournaments – October 19, December 14, January 25, February 15, and March 15 – run from 8:00am-3:30pm and there is no ability to attend only part of a tournament day. The book that will be used is The Princeton Review: Cracking the SSAT & the ISEE. The cost of the book will be included in the registration fee. This 9-week class is specifically designed for 8th grade students who are preparing to take high school entrance exams. Students will meet twice a week. Students will delight in making clay animals, pottery, jewelry, and more. So much is possible working with this non-toxic clay that comes in a wide variety of colors and bakes to a hard form. This program will develop and enhance communicative abilities of Spanish using arts, drama, songs, and crafts as a means to practice the language. The teaching will be organized around the practice of the four skills: speaking, reading, understanding, and writing plus a cultural component to learn about the cultures of Spanish speaking countries. Cadette Girl Scouts Leader: Cathy Demetropoulos & Teresita Zdunek, SHS Parents Age: 7th grade girls Dates: Wednesdays, meetings will start in October (start date TBD) Time: 3:45 – 4:45 p.m. Minimum Enrollment: 5; Maximum Enrollment: 30 Students will learn the values of being a Cadette Girl Scout through monthly meetings. We will explore the Girl Scout law through activities, games, and crafts. Leader: Middle School Math & Science Teachers Age: 6th, 7th & 8th graders Dates: Wednesdays Time: 3:45 – 5:00 p.m. Fee: No Charge The Science Olympiads is a competitive team activity for students in grades 6th – 8th to learn skills covering 23 science and engineeringrelated topics, such as Disease Detectives, Fossils, and Elevated Bridges. After several successful years competing at the regional and state levels, the Science Olympiad team has been assigned to a new and more competitive division this year. All Middle School students are invited to try out to be a member of the 2013-2014 team. New this year, we will be holding three meetings during the month of September. The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 11, from 3:40 pm – 5:00 pm. At this meeting the students will receive an introduction to Science Olympiads, test, event and registration information. The second meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 18, from 3:40- 5:00 pm. At this meeting students will decide if they will take the test to make the team, and work in groups to prepare for tryouts, as well as observe some demonstrations of events. The third meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 25 at 3:40 pm, and at this meeting the students will try out for the team, and will be dismissed as they finish testing. The first meeting for the team will be held on October 9th. Students who make the team will be notified by Monday, October 7. Please sign the Intent to Participate slip to indicate interest. Return the intent to participate slip to Ms. Lampic, Mrs. Pond or Mrs. Galligan no later than September 10, 2013. We are aware that there are other activities that might influence a student to miss an occasional meeting.

While on a vocal jazz scholarship at UNT, she sang with the world-renowned One O'Clock Jazz Band and the UNT Jazz Singers. In the private lessons, students do warm ups, sight singing, breathing technique and sing solo pieces from great books for kids of all ages. Her students in the past have performed at a fall recital and at Gallery Night wowing the audience with their vocal talents!

The debate season runs from midSeptember through the championship tournament on March 15, 2014. The teams practice twice each week on Tuesdays from 3:45-4:45pm and Fridays from 2:45-4:45pm, for a total of three hours per week. The five tournaments – October 19, December 14, January 25, February 15, and March 15 – run from 8 am - 3:30 pm and there is no ability to attend only part of a tournament day.
