How To Train Your Cat or Kitten Having a pet can make a home complete, they will always be there to greet you after a long day at work or they will curl up on the end of the bed while you are sleeping. Cats have often been called the most fickle creatures, however they can be sweet, adorable creatures if you raise them from birth. Most cats will recognise their owners by the sound of their voice, or the noise that they car makes and of course by who spoils them the most. Cats can also be trained, probably the easiest thing you can train them do is to use a litter box, but you will also find you can train them to bring you their toys or to come to you if you call them. Cats cannot recognise words but they will be able to distinguish tones of your voice. They will soon learn by your tone whether you are praising them or telling them off. It is much easier to train your pet from a young age although with some patience you will be able to train most older animals too. To train your cat to come to you when you call, you should say their name while they are looking at you. If you repeat this regularly they will soon learn to respond to your call. Litter box training is usually an easy task. Make sure your pet
knows where their litter box is, perhaps keep them in the one room for a short time. Put the kitten in the box so they get used to the smell of it. Cats by nature know the feel of litter and associate it with dirt. Occasionally cats will not like the litter you are using and will show their dislike by using the floor instead, just try a different sort of litter and this should solve the problem. Do not move the litter box around the room if possible because cats are very much creatures of habit and like things to be in the same place. The same applies to their food bowls, once you have shown them where there are they will continue to go back there. Habits are how you can train your kitten to bring their toys to you. They will enjoy playing with a certain toy so if you throw that toy he/she will be more likely to chase it and bring it back to you. My cat 'Maddie' has a little stuffed monkey that she has played with for nearly 2 years, it disappears for days but she always finds where she left it and will often bring this monkey to me when she wants to play. Cats will enrich the live of any home and will bring great joy to you especially when they climb on to your lap and snuggling up to you. In a few seconds all the stress of a bad day just disappears. www.whoisdianesmith-harris.com
